Chapter 43: Chapter 43 Who is messing with me?
Zhou Zhishan was seeing Zhang Xin humble herself for the first time ever. In the dormitory, due to Zhang Xin’s good family background and her cousin’s wealth, Zhang Xin had always been arrogant. Though the two had a good relationship, Zhishan knew Zhang Xin deliberately used her as a foil.
Zhou Zhishan had fallen into high-interest debt not just because of her own vanity, but Zhang Xin had also played a significant role in that.
Li Feng kicked Zhang Xin aside, "I already said I destroyed it, believe it or not, that’s up to you."
Li Feng hugged Zhou Zhishan as they entered the bedroom; Zhishan couldn’t contain her curiosity, "What’s with her? This isn’t like her at all."
Li Feng turned and looked at the frail-looking Zhou Zhishan, "Oh, how should she be, then?"
Zhou Zhishan pondered for a moment, "She always acts superior to those inferior to her, inherently very proud. Previously, she often badmouthed you behind your back."
"What did she say?"
Zhou Zhishan bit her lip, hesitant to reveal it, as Li Feng sat on the bed and looked up at the elegant and graceful Zhou Zhishan whose face was rosy from her fresh bath, looking stunningly beautiful.
"She definitely called me a lapdog, a useless loser, right?"
Zhou Zhishan nodded; Zhang Xin had indeed said those words, even uglier ones, treating Li Feng’s affairs as jokes and cautionary tales, warning them to be careful in choosing boyfriends.
"So, do you think I am?"
Li Feng squinted at Zhou Zhishan, who quickly shook her head, "You are not at all the person she described."
Li Feng beckoned Zhou Zhishan with his finger. Blushing, she glanced at Li Feng then knelt before the bed, looking up at him with mournful eyes.
Li Feng lifted her chin, "Actually, she’s not entirely wrong. I indeed used to be the lapdog, the useless loser she mentioned."
"Ah!"
Zhou Zhishan looked at Li Feng with surprise, as he seemed to recall the past two years, "For her, I could have married into the Zhang Family, reversed the traditional roles, for her, I tolerated her whims and temper without boundaries, for her, I dedicated myself entirely to her family."
"I don’t drink, I quit smoking, never went out to mess around, didn’t even have any friends. I took her every word as gospel, no matter how unreasonable, every outburst was my fault, I was her venting bag when she was upset. I even took over the kitchen to research recipes for her dietary health, oh, and I was also the perfect dad. From birth to age two, I was the one looking after our child 24/7."
Listening to Li Feng, Zhou Zhishan’s mouth fell open, the man described by Li Feng sounded like a dream man for any woman.
Looking at Zhou Zhishan’s expression, Li Feng commented, "You must think I’m a good man, huh, you’re wrong. The subtext of a good man is being a useless wretch, a lapdog."
Li Feng’s lips curled with a hint of wicked charm, his hand pulling open his bathrobe, "So, that good man is dead."
Zhou Zhishan’s face flushed red; she didn’t want to admit it, but this bad man before her was irresistible.
At Sihai Group, one piece of bad news after another was hitting continuously; even the working staff began to lose their composure.
"Chairman, the Industrial and Commercial Bank just called to say they want to recall two loans."
"Chairman, General Huang from the China Merchants Bank is indicating the same."
"Chairman, the previous backlog of building materials and construction fees, those people have blocked our gates demanding we settle previous accounts."
Qi Haomin listened with a grim expression to the constant reports, "I know."
"Chairman, you need to communicate with the banks immediately, or else..."
Qi Haomin raised his head and his cold gaze made the manager opposite him freeze like a cicada in winter, "I said I know what to do, do I need you to teach me how to do it?"
"Don’t report such news to me again. Am I paying you all this money just to sit around and do nothing?"
"Get out."
The people in the office hurriedly left the chairman’s office, and Qi Haomin stood up to look out the floor-to-ceiling windows, took a deep breath, and picked up his phone.
"It’s me, President Huang."
"Oh, Old Qi, you’re being a bit formal now, just call me Old Huang. What do you need from me?"
"Old Huang, I’ve run into a bit of trouble. Do you think you could lend me some money?"
"Old Qi, don’t joke with me. Didn’t you just get a strategic investment of fifty billion? And don’t think I’m unaware that you’ve raised tens of billions from other channels. You’re still playing poor with me. You know I deal in physical goods, and business isn’t good this year. I’m barely avoiding losses, and I was actually hoping to borrow some from you for the New Year."
"Old Huang, I’m not joking. I just need ten billion for three months, one percent interest per day."
"Old Qi, I really don’t have money. If you are offering such high interest, you can totally borrow from money lenders. With the reputation of Sihai Group, ten billion is nothing."
Qi Haomin hung up the phone and clenched his fist: "Old fox."
"Heh, expect me to lend you money, just to throw it away?"
Qi Haomin made several phone calls, but no one was willing to lend him any money. He truly experienced what it meant to see the cold realities of the world.
Qi Haomin sat in the executive chair, feeling that something was off. After all, Sihai Group had a significant presence, and even though they were facing troubles, it wasn’t something insurmountable. The group had weathered many big storms over the years.
Based on his status and connections in Huacheng, it shouldn’t be difficult to overcome this obstacle. However, Qi Haomin had just tried calling someone from his political network, and they didn’t answer his calls. Only then did he realize that things were out of his control.
Qi Haomin quickly made another call: "Old Zhou."
"Old Qi, if you’re looking to borrow money, I really can’t help with that."
Qi Haomin wasn’t surprised; he didn’t make the call to borrow money. "Old Zhou, I just want to ask you something."
"Mm?"
"Has anyone approached you, someone looking to take down my Sihai Group?"
There was silence on the other end of the line, and Qi Haomin understood the silence as a confirmation, "Who is it?"
"Old Zhou, I’ve been generous to you. When you were down and out, I pulled you up without a second thought, and I never asked for anything in return. I just want to know who’s behind this."
The phone was silent for a long time.
"Old Zhou, you’ve offended someone you shouldn’t have. I can’t say who, but there aren’t many in Huacheng who could move against you. That’s all I can tell you."
The person on the other end hung up after speaking, leaving Qi Haomin listening to the dial tone, furrowing his brow. He was now certain someone was out to get him, but who could it be?
In Huacheng, there weren’t many who could affect him like this, someone who could make Old Zhou ignore their long friendship and not dare to speak.
Who could it be?
