Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Slap in the Face

"Heh, how come you can get in touch with Tong Qian?"

Despite Li Feng having arrived at the company less than an hour ago, his name had already spread throughout the company, and everyone present knew exactly who Li Feng was.

Taking the back door, living off a woman, achieving status through a female benefactor—these were the impressions Li Feng left on others, and although no one said anything to his face, they looked down on him one hundred percent internally.

Of course, whether or not there was envy or jealousy amongst them remained an unspoken secret.

"I should be able to."

Li Feng spoke up.

"What do you mean you ’should be able to’? Either you can or you can’t. This ’should be able to’ of yours, does it mean you can or you can’t?"

Zhou Jie’s gaze carried a hint of disdain and contempt as he spoke. He had caught a glimpse of Miss Wang at the morning meeting and found himself captivated at first sight.

Miss Wang possessed a beauty capable of toppling cities, and her figure was perfectly outlined by her professional attire, with even her voice sounding pleasantly melodious.

Most crucially, this Miss Wang was the heiress to the Wang Family.

A true lady of wealth and status.

However, such a fairy-like Miss Wang astonishingly had a fiancé, and this fiancé was a man who would be marrying into her family.

To be frank, if the other party had been a top-notch man in every respect, Zhou Jie wouldn’t have entertained any other ideas. However, the day before, Zhou Jie learned some inside information about Li Feng from a young master of the Wang Family.

Compared to him, the other’s qualifications were like dogshit.

He too could play the role of a man marrying into a family.

Indeed, Zhou Jie did harbor a little bit of envy and jealousy in his heart, considering Miss Wang’s background and beauty.

Marrying into a family might not be unacceptable after all.

Hearing Zhou Jie’s interrogation, others in the room showcased a schadenfreude expression. This newcomer really didn’t know his own depth. Who did he think he was?

Li Feng sensed the barely concealed hostility from Zhou Jie and the cold stares from his other colleagues in the conference room and nodded his head.

"I can."

Zhou Jie slapped the table with a sharp gaze fixed on Li Feng, "Alright, since you said you can, then finding Tong Qian is your responsibility. I’m giving you twenty-four hours to get hold of her."

"Hissss."

The rest of the people in the meeting room inhaled a cold breath, with some glancing toward Zhou Jie.

Boss, that’s a bit harsh.

Even if this guy was Miss Wang’s son-in-law, making him lose face on the first day, what if he complained?

"Li Feng, I know where you come from, but since you’ve joined the company, you are one of us. If you can’t handle it, you’re free to ask someone to transfer you out, I won’t say a word."

"But if you’re working under me, I won’t give you any special treatment. Do good work, and there’s a bonus; fail, and the company has its policies."

Zhou Jie’s speech set the tone clearly: he wasn’t trying to use his position for personal vendettas, but rather to uphold professional conduct.

Li Feng chuckled lightly, "Understood. Would it be okay for me to make a phone call?"

"Suit yourself."

Zhou Jie sat back down, sneering internally. This Li Feng really was seeking his own demise. Zhou Jie was just irritated with Li Feng, and with promises from others that targeting Li Feng would result in some benefits for himself, he hadn’t even figured out a plan yet when Li Feng cooperatively presented himself as a target.

Li Feng took out his phone and dialed a number directly, "Hu Jing, it’s me."

"This time it’s a big deal, has the boss eaten gunpowder or something? Twenty-four hours to find Tong Qian, what a joke. Even a spy might not be able to manage it."

In a hastily assembled group chat, several people quietly began gossiping.

"Who knows? But this guy who’s living off a woman really doesn’t know anything, daring to speak up in a meeting the moment he starts his job. Who does he think he is?"

"Heh, he’s the son-in-law of the young miss, after all. He’s a big deal."

At this moment, someone posted a picture in the group.

"Who’s this?"

"Our new CEO at Myth Communication, Miss Wang."

"Hiss... She’s so pretty, her figure is simply perfect, and even her face is so beautiful. That freeloader is really hitting the jackpot," someone remarked.

"I wish I could freeload off someone like that," another person added with a tinge of envy.

Li Feng had only exchanged a few words before hanging up the phone.

"What’s up, did you find the person?" someone inquired.

"Not yet," Li Feng replied directly.

One male employee scoffed, "If Tong Qian were that easy to find, we wouldn’t be in this mess. Now, even her agent has lost contact with her. The paparazzi are notorious, but they can’t find her either."

"Li Feng, why don’t you just apologize to the boss? You’re still new here and don’t know the ropes." Linda looked at Li Feng as if to offer him a way out.

"No need," Li Feng said with a smile, declining the offer.

"Linda, don’t waste your warmth on his cold backside. The man thinks he’s all that, saying he can handle things we can’t," another coworker remarked sarcastically.

"Exactly, we’ve still got twenty-four hours, anyway."

"Meeting adjourned."

Zhou Jie looked at Li Feng, who was busy with his phone, with a sneer. He had no interest in waiting around and promptly declared the meeting over. He got up to leave, and the other employees followed suit.

Li Feng’s phone suddenly rang.

Li Feng glanced at the number, a smirk forming on his lips: "Hello, is that you?"

"Can we meet up?"

"Sure."

Li Feng hung up after a brief conversation, then looked up at Zhou Jie who was about to leave: "I’ve got in touch with the person and arranged a place to meet. Who’s coming with me?"

Li Feng’s voice wasn’t loud, but it stopped everyone in their tracks.

"You got in touch with her?"

"You’re sure you reached Tong Qian?"

"Really, are you joking?" A few people looked at Li Feng skeptically. How could it be possible when they had tried everything to find Tong Qian to no avail?

Had this freeloader really just made two phone calls in less than two minutes and found her?

"Li Feng, that’s not a funny joke," one person commented.

Zhou Jie’s face was as dark as the deep waters as he stared at Li Feng.

Li Feng shrugged his shoulders: "This isn’t a joke. Just because you can’t find someone doesn’t mean I can’t."

"I’ve arranged a meeting. You’ll see whether it’s Tong Qian or not once we get there. Do you think I would bother to tell such a pointless lie?"

In the conference room, people exchanged looks. Li Feng’s reasoning made sense.

If it was true, they’d find out soon enough, and it made no sense for him to lie about it.

"Boss, should I go check it out?" Linda asked, turning to Zhou Jie.

"This case is important; I’ll go myself. Li Feng, give me the address," Zhou Jie commanded.

Li Feng looked at Zhou Jie indifferently, the corners of his mouth slightly raised.

Zhou Jie’s brows furrowed: "I’m talking to you; what’s the meaning of not responding?"

Li Feng was not one to fawn over a boss who clearly harbored hostility towards him. His nature was to treat others with the same respect they showed him—dislike from them meant no face from him.

"You think if I give you the address, you’ll be able to see the person?" Li Feng said with a playful tone.

Gulp.

Everyone was stunned at how this freeloader dared speak like that to the boss—who gave him such audacity?

Zhou Jie stared intensively at Li Feng, clearly picking up on the mockery in his voice. Linda quickly intervened: "Boss, since Li Feng made contact, and he seems to be acquainted with Tong Qian, he might be helpful."

Zhou Jie suppressed the fire within him and turned to Li Feng: "Hmm, you can come along, but remember your place. If you mess this up, you won’t be able to bear the consequences."
