Chapter 522: Chapter 501: Let Him Come Out
Gao Yi thought that since Yuri proposed such an outrageous task, essentially sending them to their deaths, he must have a corresponding plan.
This was Gao Yi’s confidence in Yuri.
It can’t possibly be as reckless as barging into the Ministry of Defense. Gao Yi is not that dumb, and Yuri couldn’t be that foolish either.
Analyzing comprehensively, Yuri must have a way. What he needs now is just an attitude from Gao Yi.
Quite a few people shared the same thought as Gao Yi—after all, anyone with their IQ intact would realize it.
Xinfeng said calmly to Yuri, "You must already have a complete plan. Go ahead and tell us."
Sith couldn’t resist clenching his fist and said, "Thinking about taking down a high-ranking officer from Glou, I’m actually starting to feel a bit excited."
Yuri, speaking seriously and calmly, said, "I’m sorry to disappoint you. If I had a feasible plan, I would’ve executed it already instead of seeking your help."
Gao Yi was a bit stunned. It wasn’t that he lacked experience, but Yuri’s words did seem unusually inconsiderate.
No matter how valuable someone is, a boss shouldn’t risk their own life unnecessarily.
Gao Yi was left speechless.
Spreading his hands, Gao Yi was ready to casually come up with an excuse to brush off Yuri.
But Xinfeng displayed extraordinary interest. He politely said to Yuri, "Even if there’s no plan, there must be some ideas. Share them with us; perhaps we can brainstorm an appropriate method."
"Hmm, the target is named Glakov. He’s truly an exceptional soldier and an outstanding spy, originally trained by the KGB during the Soviet era. Later, he was transferred to Glou. In terms of personal ability alone, he’s the most remarkable operative I’ve ever known and encountered."
First, Glakov’s profile: a master.
Yuri continued, "He’s inherently an outstanding operative and has spent years engaged in counter-espionage work. He places great importance on his personal security, leaving hardly any vulnerabilities or weaknesses to exploit. He has no family, no bad habits, no fixed leisure activities—or rather, he treats his work as his ultimate pursuit and enjoyment."
The more Yuri spoke, the more absurd it sounded, describing precisely the kind of target most feared by assassins.
Gao Yi couldn’t help but ask, "Is his lifestyle consistent?"
"No, it’s deliberately inconsistent. Meals, sleep, work, going out—he purposely hides all his personal routines, so even if someone investigates deliberately, there’s no pattern to summarize or analyze."
Yuri spread his hands, saying, "I’m from the KGB. He’s from Glou. I can use the KGB to obtain some personal data and intelligence, but regarding Glakov, my information channels are almost ineffective. The KGB can’t obtain usable intelligence on him."
Xinfeng said seriously, "Please keep going."
"Glakov has many loyal subordinates, which is common in the military. Furthermore, he can mobilize substantial resources for his personal security. He resides in Glou’s collective dormitory at its Moscow premises, living and eating alongside soldiers. This essentially eliminates any possibility of getting close to him, let alone an assassination attempt."
Upon hearing this, Dani couldn’t help but say, "So what’s your plan, having us accompany you as you charge into Glou’s Moscow headquarters? Or storm his office in the Ministry of Defense building?"
Yuri frowned and replied, "Obviously not. I’m not planning a suicide mission."
Frustrated, Dani retorted, "But everything you’ve mentioned sounds like suicide."
Yuri ignored Dani and continued, "Glakov’s unique status means he doesn’t stay at the base like an ordinary officer. Instead, he commutes daily from the base to his office. This is our only opportunity to exploit. However, he doesn’t have a fixed vehicle, route, or schedule, making any ambush difficult. His decades of meticulous self-protection make him arguably the hardest target to assassinate in the world."
It’s said that you can be a thief for a thousand days, but you can’t guard against one for a thousand days.
Yet Glakov has managed to maintain vigilance for all these years without ever letting his guard down.
Gao Yi and Xinfeng exchanged glances. After pausing to think, Xinfeng asked, "Do you know Glakov’s phone number? If you do, maybe it could be useful."
"Are you thinking of using electronic signal tracking to locate him?"
Yuri immediately deduced Xinfeng’s intention. Xinfeng nodded and said softly, "Yes."
"It’s useless. He only uses a landline, which means you can pinpoint his office location."
Dejected, Xinfeng shook his head with a sense of defeat.
Gao Yi furrowed his brow. "Keep going. Let’s hear just how impossible this is."
"Glakov doesn’t trust anyone, which is why his guards and orderlies are frequently rotated. This lack of trust means nobody can get close enough to gather useful intelligence through bribery or coercion."
Yuri seemed increasingly energized, showing no signs of resignation in the face of the difficulties.
No wonder Yuri hadn’t acted himself. Under such conditions, he’d need remarkable skill to personally attempt the task.
Gao Yi glanced at Xinfeng. Xinfeng simply shook his head.
Likewise, Dani and Sith responded similarly, each shaking their heads.
Gao Yi sighed lightly and said, "That leaves brute force as the only option, and that’s a method we can’t employ, so the answer, unfortunately, is that it’s impossible."
Xinfeng didn’t want to admit it but reluctantly added in a low voice, "A target like this requires long-term surveillance, with readiness to strike at a moment’s notice to seize any opportunity that may arise. This timeframe is measured in years. Even if we disregard potential consequences, eliminating him in the short term is outright impossible."
Xinfeng had spoken for Gao Yi, sparing him from personally rejecting Yuri. In situations like this, Xinfeng had a knack for reading the room.
Spreading his hands, Gao Yi faced Yuri and said, "My apologies. We can’t do it. If this means you refuse to join the Garden, there’s nothing I can do."
Gao Yi couldn’t sacrifice everyone else for Yuri—it made no sense. Gao Yi wasn’t foolish.
Yuri smirked, then said softly, "Is there truly no way? Use your brains and think. I’m not an assassin, nor do I often work in assassination. But you’re professionals. Surely you’ve thought of methods I haven’t considered."
Indeed, specialization matters, but there are limits.
An average person can’t lift 200 kilograms, but a weightlifter can—that’s specialization.
However, an average person can’t lift themselves by pulling on their own hair, nor can a super-strong person. That’s reality.
Now Yuri was asking Gao Yi’s team to do the impossible, essentially forcing their hand.
Gao Yi sighed deeply and said, "Apologies. I understand your position, but we can’t do it. Unless Glakov is a... hmm, wait, wait."
Gao Yi was about to say "Unless Glakov is a fool," but clearly, he wasn’t.
However, this moment made Gao Yi suddenly consider something.
He doesn’t need to be a fool; he could be mentally unstable. After all, a normal person wouldn’t subject themselves to such rigorous self-restraint for decades.
Thinking outside the box, Gao Yi speculated: What if Glakov isn’t normal?
Using mercenary tactics: If assassination fails, send a team to storm the base and kill Glakov outright.
Or, military tactics: launch a missile and obliterate him.
Anywhere else, Gao Yi might actually try these. But in Moscow, it’s impossible. Scratch those ideas.
Using an assassin’s method—long-term surveillance to find an opportunity—is a non-starter. Forget it.
Gao Yi, a Kung Fu master, naturally resorted to thinking like one. After discarding the standard approaches, he considered using strategies fit for a martial arts expert.
It’s his most familiar way of thinking.
What do masters do? First, of course, they duel—agreeing on a time and place for a public life-and-death match.
But this seemed unlikely. Glakov is a Russian, a soldier-spy hybrid. Applying a civilian master’s mindset to his actions would be absurd.
What’s left? Issuing challenges—paying a visit to spar.
Gao Yi had done plenty of this. Now a master-level expert himself, in his younger days, he’d often resort to such tactics for a match.
But Glakov wouldn’t spar with him, surely?
Yet, having reached this point, Gao Yi blurted out, "We can’t get close to him. Could we make him actively seek us out?"
"Ha... how’s that possible?"
Dani tilted his head with a mocking laugh.
But Yuri seemed intrigued and added, "Never tried it. Never thought of it. But why not?"
Dani scoffed, "Only if he’s crazy... f**k! What if he actually is crazy?"
Xinfeng shrugged, "Don’t know. Maybe he’s extremely arrogant and can’t stand being provoked?"
Yuri calmly replied, "He is arrogant, but he clearly won’t be easily provoked. His psychological resilience is high. However, back to the point—why is it impossible for Glakov to come out and seek us?"
Gao Yi said, "True, why not? Besides, you won’t know unless you try."
Sith asked without hesitation, "How do we try?"
Gao Yi hesitated slightly before suggesting, "Give him a call. Invite him out for negotiations?"
Dani sighed, "Sure, nothing’s impossible. You won’t know without trying. But can you find a better excuse? Negotiations about what? Why not invite him out for dinner instead?"
Gao Yi nodded, "If we can invite him out for dinner, that’d be ideal. I like restaurants."
"You’re actually..."
Dani frowned again and said, "It might actually work. It’s worth trying—dinner, negotiations, or perhaps resolving some past grievances. What if he really agrees to come out?"
Yuri chuckled and said, "We’ll find out by trying. I’ll call him and invite him to dinner."
