Chapter 460: Chapter 440 Xinfeng

One wave has yet to settle when another rises.

It seems that Freedom Wind was never Gao Yi’s main threat, nor was it Panetta’s primary target.

Panetta aimed at his political foes, but in the end, it was Freedom Wind that got wiped out.

This is called destroying you, even though you’re irrelevant.

It’s unclear if Freedom Wind has been abandoned, but when a boss fails to protect his subordinates, when the leader can’t save his own underlings, just this fact means Mason is done for; he has completely lost the struggle against Panetta.

"Then send it over."

Gao Yi didn’t feel like saying much more.

"The information has been sent, provided by the White House, not voluntarily submitted by Mason, which means Freedom Wind hasn’t realized that they’ve been exposed."

"Alright, what do you want me to do?"

After a moment of contemplation, Panetta spoke softly, "Freedom Wind should disappear. Take a look at the information first, and we’ll talk afterwards."

"Understood, I’ll take a look first."

Gao Yi hung up the phone.

What unfolded was internal strife, culminating in the CIA’s current top-secret group being betrayed, and unsurprisingly, Panetta hoped Gao Yi would eliminate Freedom Wind for him.

That’s probably the situation.

From the nation’s perspective, Panetta is not a good person at all.

But from Gao Yi’s perspective, aligning with Panetta is like a stairway to heaven.

For Panetta, having Gao Yi’s aid to eliminate internal opposition using an outsider’s hand is indeed a godsent opportunity.

No wonder Panetta’s career skyrockets; it serves Freedom Wind right to meet their end.

The information arrived, a set of archives with photographs and real names, totaling five files.

Gao Yi had already taken care of three of them, namely Tornado, Hurricane, and Burning Wind—these three were clearly from the operations team, which was evident from the style of their codenames.

Now, Gao Yi finally learned the full details about Freedom Wind.

Apart from Wei Feng, the other individual finally revealed their true face.

Wei Feng, a core member of the Freedom Wind secret group, the commander, but not the leader, on an equal footing with the others, no office, no fixed station.

Xinfeng, a member of Freedom Wind, part of the CIA European Intelligence Bureau’s secret operations team.

Wei Feng is full-time, but Xinfeng takes on a dual role. His primary identity is a secret operations team member in the European Intelligence Bureau, but he also qualifies as a Freedom Wind member due to his experience.

Xinfeng’s outstanding personal capabilities made the Europe Department select him to become a member of Freedom Wind.

Freedom Wind, more prominently characterized by the traits of an operations team, where Tornado, Hurricane, and Burning Wind led the combat groups in specialized warfare.

Xinfeng specialized in assassinations and stabbings.

Interesting, by all logic, Xinfeng’s level isn’t high enough to warrant special protection. Previously, Panetta couldn’t find this member of Freedom Wind, whose codename was also unknown, simply because his role within the system wasn’t significant, resulting in his neglect rather than intentional concealment.

It didn’t take long to finish reviewing the information. Gao Yi called Panetta back. Waiting for the call to connect, he spoke softly, "Now I have Freedom Wind’s dossier, but I don’t have their locations."

Panetta chuckled, then whispered, "You will have them."

"What do you mean?"

"All members of Freedom Wind are concealed among the CIA’s employees. I couldn’t previously acquire their details because it’s impossible to check thousands of employees in the Europe Department, but now that we know their real identities, it’s easy to find their unique ID numbers. With the IDs, we can keep track of their location in real-time, as long as they’re within the CIA’s system, unless they’re on undercover missions, which clearly, they aren’t moles."

Seen from another angle, Panetta acts like the big boss among villains, but from Gao Yi’s perspective, Panetta is his cheat code.

Remaining casually composed, Panetta continued, "Tracking Wei Feng’s whereabouts is challenging, but Xinfeng’s location is fixed. He’s at the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt, holding a diplomatic passport, publicly known as a technical support staff, but we needn’t mention his real identity—an extremely capable, battle-hardened agent."

Right there in Germany, in Frankfurt.

"It’s close to me; I can put aside my current work to deal with Xinfeng."

"By using Xinfeng, at least we can determine Wei Feng’s position, or at best find him. That would be the best outcome for me. If that’s not possible, I’ll call Wei Feng back to headquarters to report. But I can’t use CIA manpower to deal with Wei Feng, so if I must pull strings to bring him back, I hope you can take care of him for me."

"No problem. I’ll find Xinfeng first."

"Make it quick. If Mason realizes that Freedom Wind’s information has been leaked, he will certainly protect them, and then dealing with Wei Feng and Xinfeng will be much harder."

"I’ll act immediately and contact you with any developments."

Gao Yi hung up the phone.

The city of Frankfurt is rather interesting, as it’s the CIA’s intelligence network hub in Europe, essentially the hackers’ center.

Panetta needn’t have mentioned this; since Prism Gate, it’s been an open secret.

And Xinfeng has a stable job in Frankfurt under the guise of a network intelligence center technician, which masks his secondary identity, making it all the more intriguing.

This matter touches upon Gao Yi’s core secrets, and since he still cannot fully trust the two of them, he decides not to inform Sith and Dani about Freedom Wind. However, as their backgrounds are French and UK respectively, Gao Yi doesn’t want to harm them either.

Speaking or not speaking, neither seems quite appropriate; this is the dilemma of navigating between various forces, as conflicts of interest inevitably arise.

Gao Yi pondered for a long time and finally made his decision. He called Sith and Dani, asking them not to come back, and ensuring there was no surveillance, they were to meet in Frankfurt.

They would discuss further once they arrived—what needed to be said would be said; what shouldn’t be mentioned, wouldn’t be.

Gao Yi found it more convenient to proceed alone, and there was no need for Luca either; his presence was of no use, so Luca might as well go wherever he pleased, as it only took a phone call if money was needed.

Gao Yi and Lucy embarked on their journey to Frankfurt.

They would drive there, trying to avoid public transport as much as possible.

Nobody would expect Gao Yi to drop his current target and turn to deal with matters that were completely unrelated.

The main approach was spontaneity, striking when least expected, elusive and incomprehensible.

It’s just these matters, let’s just line them up and take care of them one by one, no rush.
