Chapter 224: Chapter 212: Promote Talks through Fighting

Gao Yi just couldn’t understand the person who, despite being separated by a wall, would fully expose themselves while shouting out. What was going through his mind? Did he have no fear of death?

Not too long ago, he felt as if he were just part of an amateur troupe, and they were the national team, but now, it looked like those on the opposite side were the ones acting even more foolish.

When Gao Yi said to kill him, Feng Biao had no hesitation; but at the very moment Gao Yi’s words hit the ground, before Feng Biao could even shoot, Lin Xianghua fired first.

The distance was too close, not even fifty meters. At this range, a sniper rifle would only be cumbersome, so Lin Xianghua used his M4 rifle and shot directly at the target’s head. The bullet blew the man’s head, and the person holding the megaphone toppled to the ground without making a sound.

The world went quiet. The people outside who had been behaving in a listless manner immediately lay down, crawled, and sought cover.

In just an instant, those who had so boldly made their presence known outside had all disappeared.

Nobody was foolish. GEO, being elite, knew that the people inside not only had guns but were also truly willing to use them; their first reaction was, of course, to quickly find cover.

Voices of frustration rose outside—Spanish. Gao Yi did not understand.

Lucy knew that Gao Yi couldn’t understand, so she whispered faintly, "The people outside are saying, ’You guys really dare to shoot, huh? Do you really want to escalate this?’"

Hmm?

Could there be some misunderstanding here, or something wrong?

After a moment, the shouting from outside switched to Arabic.

Gao Yi still couldn’t understand.

Feng Biao whispered, "It sounds like they’re saying, ’How dare you behave so outrageously on our territory?’ That should be the meaning."

This time, without needing Feng Biao’s translation, Gao Yi knew; not understanding notwithstanding, hearing Arabic let him know that those outside mistook them for Saudis.

In the end, was it the National Intelligence Bureau that was going to be the scapegoat?

After a brief pause, Gao Yi quickly said, "If there’s a chance, grab a hood and cover your face."

Knowing they were going to be pursued, they couldn’t be without hoods. Even if they didn’t have any, they would have to make one on the spot to cover their faces. But they didn’t need to prepare them; Abdulla’s people, fully understanding the importance of the hoods, had already provided them in advance. Now that it was certain they would be used, all that was left was to pull them down over their faces.

First, they covered their faces. Then Gao Yi shouted in English, "Listen up, people outside, you are now surrounded by us. Clear a path and let us out, or we will open fire!"

After finishing his statement, Gao Yi, as if to further drive the point home, added loudly, "We are NOT from the National Intelligence Bureau!"

The last sentence was the key point.

Outside, it fell silent again. After a moment, Lin Xianghua suddenly whispered low, "They’re going to attack."

Li Jie whispered, "Do we shoot? Open fire?"

Logically, that question shouldn’t have been asked because if they were being stormed, not to shoot would mean waiting for death.

But Li Jie asked anyway, and Gao Yi, in response, whispered, "Can’t shoot, if we do... we become the bad guys."

Gao Yi had a simple thought: he might no longer be considered a good person, but he couldn’t become a bad one.

GEO and CIA are different.

The CIA, colluding with or controlling the Dark Web to kill Gao Yi, obviously warranted retaliation.

But GEO was a police counter-terrorism special force, conducting law enforcement activities on their soil. If he really killed a few of them, aside from possibly being branded a terrorist, the problem for Gao Yi was that he couldn’t come to terms with it psychologically.

Li Jie was in a similar state of mind, which is why he asked whether to shoot or not.

Feng Biao and Lin Xianghua didn’t have such a psychological burden, so if they chose to shoot, they’d shoot without second thoughts. As for Lucy, she was even more unrestrained.

Gao Yi drew his pistol.

This Divine Artifact had been in his hand for a long time, but he had never had occasion to use it. Now, when it was time to use it, Gao Yi didn’t want to.

Gao Yi’s bottom line was not to kill good people.

But if those with legitimate reasons to storm in did so, the question remained: to shoot or not to shoot.

Gao Yi didn’t even know himself.

"You listen, I know you’re about to attack. We have a bomb here, and companions outside. If you attack, we will fight to the death!"

Gao Yi’s inspiration from Feng Biao didn’t stop at flattery; he also bluffed about having a bomb. Whether they actually had one was irrelevant; the important thing was to shout it out first.

Li Jie was somewhat nervous, not because of the prospect of combat but because he felt nervous for not being on the side of justice this time.

Li Jie had a strong sense of justice.

Still no movement outside, this time even Lin couldn’t hold back his question, whispered low, "Are we really not going to shoot?"

They certainly couldn’t just wait to die.

"Let us out. If you really... kill us, you’ll have bigger problems. This is an issue between us and the CIA, do not interfere."

Gao Yi wanted to say that capturing them would cause bigger problems, but as the words reached his lips, he changed what he was about to say.

What if that reminder caused GEO to decide not to capture them alive but to kill everyone inside the house instead?

Gao Yi hoped that his bluff would solve the problem, but clearly, bluffs couldn’t resolve everything.

Suddenly, several dark objects flew from outside. Lin Xianghua shouted urgently, "Hand Grenades!"

Everyone ducked their heads, and then came the thunderous explosions. After four blasts, almost all of the glass shattered. The purpose of these hand grenades was to shatter the glass in the windows.

The glass was very ordinary, certainly all broken if exploded near, and once the glass shattered, it would be much easier for those outside to throw more grenades in.

"Assault grenades."

Lin Xianghua spoke again.

On the battlefield, that’s how it is. Although it’s something everyone knows, it still needs to be said, because once the fight starts everything will be chaotic, and that which is known can easily be neglected.

The main difference between offensive hand grenades and defensive ones is that offensive grenades have no shrapnel and rely solely on the blast wave to kill or incapacitate the enemy.

"Watch your backs."

"The enemy is attacking, watch out for shock bombs and protect your ears."

Gao Yi felt that Lin Xianghua and Feng Biao’s warnings were specifically meant for him and Lucy because the two of them truly had not experienced this kind of head-on battle, a real indoor combat.

Feng Biao set down his sniper rifle, drew his pistol, and confidently said, "It doesn’t matter who comes, the enemy won’t get in!"

Using a sniper rifle in indoor combat isn’t appropriate, the pistol is more convenient.

When Feng Biao said "enemy," he meant he was prepared to fight to the death. From now on, no matter who comes, they would have only one identity: the enemy.

Only Lin Xianghua naively asked, "Shall we fight?"

Just then, several more dark objects suddenly flew through the air outside.

"Hand grenades!"

Li Jie shouted and then crouched down.

Gao Yi was wearing headphones, but he still covered his ears with his hands, though he was still clutching his pistol.

As expected, they were shock bombs. When the shock bombs burst into the room, the deafening explosions made hearts tremble, and a couple of offensive hand grenades were mixed in, creating a strong impact, filling the room instantly with smoke and dust.

After the grenades, a full assault was sure to follow.

Gao Yi had to make a decision, and whispered, "Aim for... the legs!"

In terms of training intensity, the GEO outside were probably several times stronger than Gao Yi and the others, but in terms of actual combat experience, the ones inside had at least ten times more than those outside.

Although this was their first time engaging in a full-scale proper indoor battle, even Gao Yi had walked back and forth through gunfire many times, while the GEO special forces outside had barely executed a handful of real missions since their establishment. Over the decades, the number of missions was just a few, and they barely got to fight.

So, when Gao Yi yelled out, his heart was also racing.

If they couldn’t hold out, he reckoned it would mean getting blood on his hands, as Gao Yi truly couldn’t bring himself to stick his neck out just to be chopped at.

Before the smoke cleared, people had already entered; the first wave was six.

Four from the window and two from the main entrance, with a second echelon outside.

It was full-on assault right from the start, with no restraint from GEO.

Furthermore, every member of GEO was equipped with bullet-proof vests, so even if they were hit in the torso, they had no fear.

The first to fire was a pistol, Gao Yi took a shot, whether by intention or accident, at this point, he could only aim for the legs, and as he made his first shot, he noticed a spurt of blood from the target’s leg.

It wasn’t a hit.

Gao Yi hastily aimed for the right leg, but the target was hit in the left.

With a series of gunshots, a person who had jumped in from the window fell back out, and the two who entered through the door instantly lost balance, not falling, but no longer able to stand.

Gunshots and screams rang out together.

Lucy held a single gun in both hands and fired four shots, hitting with two.

Feng Biao fired three shots and scored three hits.

Li Jie didn’t fire at all.

Lin Xianghua hit one person by the window, and then, the first wave of battle was over.

Lin Xianghua struggled and said, "I’ve been hit!"

Of the six GEO members who came in, two were on the ground, two were attempting to turn and jump back out. At that point, Feng Biao and Lucy fired again, hitting both of the fleeing men in the leg, they all fell at the entrance.

"Nobody move! Move and I shoot the head!"

Gao Yi shouted first, then despite the risk of incoming bullets, he charged at one of the men on the ground but still holding a submachine gun.

His gun skills might not be great, but his movement was unquestionably fast. He didn’t dare claim to be invincible, but at the very least he hadn’t met his match yet.

Those who breached in had a tough job. The fallen man aimed his gun at Gao Yi, ready to fire, but Gao Yi swept his left hand down, grabbing the muzzle and pushing it aside, pressed his knee against the target’s chest, and placed his pistol under the chin of the injured special forces member.

"Don’t move! Negotiation! Negotiation! No shooting!"

At least four wounded were left inside, with Gao Yi controlling one, which could at least momentarily stop more GEO personnel from firing.

Even if they had guts, they would need some time to consider whether they wanted to continue the fight or not.

In the midst of chaos, Gao Yi turned to Lin Xianghua and asked, "Where did you get shot?"

Lin Xianghua had been shot; he touched his face and felt blood, but the stabbing pain was on his face following a furrow; he immediately said, "I’m fine!"

Each with their own tasks, knowing Lin Xianghua had his face grazed but was not in mortal danger, Gao Yi finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But the man who had been shot by Lin Xianghua and had tumbled out of the window was now standing up, getting up to shoot into the window when, at last, the commander outside finally bellowed, "Cease the attack, hold your fire!"

Li Jie hurriedly raised his gun and advanced, pressing the muzzle against one of the injured men at the door and shouted, "Drop the gun, don’t move and you won’t die, we’re negotiating now!"

With the gun pointed at them, the other side made a gesture as if to negotiate, letting go of the breath they were holding, the three injured on the ground loosened up and dropped their weapons.

With a look of admiration, Feng Biao commented, "Negotiating through combat, Gao, that’s really clever!"
