Chapter 225: Chapter 213: Chaos Together

Until now, who can claim they fully understand what’s happening?

There might be someone, but the truth he believes in is definitely wrong, one hundred percent wrong.

All this time, Gao Yi had firmly believed that the world operated according to certain rules, that there was a cause and effect for everything.

That everything progressed along its rightful trajectory, and by unraveling the threads, one would naturally understand everything.

But as the person involved, no, as the main culprit, the instigator, the critical link in every stage of the entire event, even he didn’t understand what had happened, let alone those who had been dragged into this.

Shaman’s National Intelligence Bureau, CIA, FBI, as well as the Defense Clandestine Service, and the Dark Web, there’s Andic Group, too, and now, we must add Spain and a GEO to the mix.

Gao Yi really had stirred up quite the mess, surveying the chaotic porridge in front of him, Gao Yi suddenly had an epiphany.

It turns out that not everything in the world is orderly, it turns out that this world truly belongs to makeshift troupes, it turns out that he, too, is now this powerful.

Now, Gao Yi believed his intention was to use action to prompt negotiation. He wasn’t a reckless brute moving step by step, but a planned and premeditated tactical mastermind.

With newfound confidence that he could talk his way out of this, Gao Yi handed his gun to Lucy and pulled off his hood, then strutted outside, lifting his head high.

"Don’t shoot, I’m coming out."

Gao Yi walked out the door with his head held high. He took a few steps forward, and through the courtyard gate, he said to the air he knew was hiding beyond the wall, "Let’s negotiate here. Your injured men are still bleeding, let’s finish talking so they can get treated."

With such confidence and audacity, he challenged the Spaniards there, who had they ever seen act like this, and when?

The man in the police uniform stood up and took two steps forward, megaphone still in hand, his face full of helplessness, walking right up to Gao Yi.

"My name is Abdulla, what’s yours?"

"What the hell do you want to do!"

With no manners, not even introducing himself, the high-ranking police officer gritted his teeth and said, "You’re mistaken if you think Spain is a place where you can do whatever you please!"

Watching the police officer wave his hand dismissively, Gao Yi spoke softly, "Stop with the pointless talk. You know what we want, just like I know you were forced to come here. The CIA’s man is already dead, so can we have a proper talk now?"

Grabbing the tiger’s skin to pull the big banner, anyway, leaning towards Shaman was the right move.

The man in the police uniform said nothing; he simply took a deep breath.

Gao Yi continued, "Your men are injured, but nobody is dead. Do you have a doctor? If so, let them go in and treat the wounded."

The officer couldn’t help but look at Gao Yi again and whispered, "You have no diplomatic immunity! I could just wipe you all out as terrorists!"

Gao Yi, losing patience, said, "Why are you still talking about this? Is it meaningful? Stop the pointless babbling, let’s discuss how to resolve our dilemma. This is a personal vendetta between us and the CIA, you shouldn’t be involved. Even if you should be, you didn’t have to make such a big deal out of it. Have you thought about what the outcome will be if we’re forced to do something undesirable?"

"I will take out as many of you as there are!"

"Keep talking like that, and I’m done negotiating."

Gao Yi lifted his head slightly and said softly, "The quarrel between the CIA, the state... and me, was never Spain’s business, but if you insist on dragging Spain into this, then I’m out of options."

It was a threat, but the officer had nothing to say.

Gao Yi went on, "Three people are dead here, two were assassins sent by the CIA, one was a CIA agent. What about the man who just got shot? What was his position? It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to say, but he was a CIA man. You wouldn’t want to deny that, would you?"

The officer sighed once more.

Gao Yi said with disdain, "Face reality. Your superiors aren’t willing to show up for such a big incident, only you... may I ask what rank you are? Alright, regardless of your rank, isn’t it up to the highest levels of Spain to decide how to handle this? By sending just you, isn’t Spain trying to downplay the situation?"

For Spain, deploying a police superintendent with the strongest forces was one level of seriousness.

But dispatching the security department with a team of high-ranking officials was another level entirely.

The rank of the leader determined Spain’s stance on the incident; currently, Spain’s attitude was that they had to cooperate at the CIA’s request, but they dared not completely fall out with Saudi.

Watching the silent officer in front of him, Gao Yi continued, "Think carefully about whether it’s worth sacrificing the lives of your men for dirty political deals. Oh, I get it! They’re not your subordinates, not your brothers!"

The officer immediately said, "No, they... of course, they are my brothers."

Gao Yi didn’t know police ranks well, but he could tell that this police officer at most could be some superintendent in the Madrid Police Department, holding a higher position, but certainly not the final decision maker.

Regardless of the rank, this officer was definitely not the direct superior of the GEO.

Now Gao Yi felt even more assured, and he said with a grave tone, "You can’t handle this situation anymore. You can’t bear the consequences of killing us, and you don’t have the authority to let us go; so contact your superiors quickly, this needs a resolution."

"I..."

Tangled, bewildered, and chaotic, the officer clearly did not know what to do.

At that moment, someone from behind urged him in Spanish for a few sentences, then the officer reluctantly said, "Wait a moment, I have to make a phone call."

Although he did not understand Spanish, Gao Yi saw a person dressed in combat gear stand up from behind the officer. Despite having no obvious markings, Gao Yi knew this individual must be the head of the GEO.

Gao Yi looked at the man clad in combat gear and said, "Is there a doctor? Go save them now; any further delay and people will die."

The officer was indecisive, but the GEO member reacted immediately, saying without hesitation, "We have a medical soldier who can provide emergency treatment, what’s the condition of the casualty?"

"What is your status?"

"Assault team leader."

"Alright, he’s been shot in the leg. We are very sincere; we do not want to have a direct conflict with your country."

"You have four hostages; I’ll allow four people to go in and exchange for the casualty to be brought out for emergency treatment, do you agree?"

"Agreed, disarm yourselves completely, tie your hands behind your backs before you go in, and I assure you of your safety."

Now the officer could no longer speak with authority, while the GEO captain, conversing with Gao Yi, took off his weapon, removed his helmet, flipped his bullet-proof vest open, and took it off before turning around to say a couple of words, his hands tied behind his back.

The GEO members really had handcuffs, as one approached and efficiently cuffed their captain.

The captain himself served as a hostage to exchange for the casualty, with four people voluntarily having their hands cuffed behind their backs and standing before Gao Yi.

Gao Yi waved his hand and instructed, "Go in and make the exchange. Take a few more people with you; carry out the brothers who cannot walk."

Watching the officer walk nervously to one side to make a phone call, and seeing the GEO special forces proceed with the hostage exchange on their own, Gao Yi understood that if they were going to run, now was the time.

Gao Yi raised his voice, addressing the officer who was making the call, "Sir, in the spirit of humanity, we have released the injured hostage, but this does not mean we won’t harm the hostages."

The few people who had just reached the doorway hesitated for a moment, but they still walked in with their heads held high.

Gao Yi approached the officer and continued, "Now I demand a helicopter for us to leave. If you refuse, four hostages will lose their lives."

Gao Yi had promised an exchange, and that’s what it would be; he did not plan to take the opportunity to capture more hostages.

Actually, having four was enough.

The officer remained silent, Gao Yi went on, "There are two corpses here, they could be Eta, they could be ISIS, they could be anybody. You can claim you’ve killed the terrorists after injuring four people, and it’ll count as an achievement; as for this CIA gentleman, you can fabricate any cause of death for him. Everyone knows what’s going on, it’ll be fine as long as nobody exposes it."

The officer kept looking at Gao Yi, then his gaze shifted past him to the casualties being carried or assisted out.

Gao Yi nodded and said, "I’m a man of my word. Killing your men does me no good, but letting us go to continue dealing with the CIA is in your best interest; in fact, we all know what’s going on, so why take the matter into your own hands? It would be disadvantageous for you to have a confrontation on Spanish soil. Better we leave and the trouble becomes the UK’s, nothing to do with you."

The officer couldn’t decide, but the person he was calling would surely be swayed.

Catching Gao Yi would mean facing pressure from Saudi to release them; killing them might provoke retaliation; letting them go would not be accepted by the CIA.

But if it seemed like cooperating with a CIA operation that failed, and casualties were taken as hostages, leading to letting Gao Yi go, it could appear justifiable.

As for explaining it to the public, that was easy. Weren’t there two corpses? They were the terrorists targeted in the operation. Just declare in the news they were killed in action, and it’s over. Could anyone really check?

Truth has never been significant; only the outcome matters.

The officer picked up the phone, after listening briefly, he finally said to Gao Yi, "I accept your conditions, we can provide you with a helicopter; just don’t harm the hostages."

"No harm, definitely no harm! Please have the helicopter ready to take off; we’ll be on our way."

Gao Yi was very pleased.

He had used force to stimulate the negotiations, but what the outcome might be, Gao Yi had no idea. He hadn’t planned on acquiring a helicopter to leave, but now, they would be able to leave via helicopter, and surely be safe before it landed.

The helicopter belonged to Spain, and there were hostages, including the pilot, onboard. Even if the United States wanted to shoot it down, Spain would likely not agree.

But at this point, just how far things had developed, Gao Yi himself became even more confused.

However, let confusion reign. It didn’t matter, they’d all be confused together.

At this time, Gao Yi could be certain that no one would be able to guess his next move; no one in the world could predict his route, and absolutely no one could foretell his plans.

Because, quite frankly, there weren’t any.

Feng Biao and Li Jie came out first, each holding a hostage at gunpoint. They boarded the helicopter first, and once they were thoroughly onboard, Lucy and Lin Xianghua escorted the other two towards the helicopter.

Watching everyone board the helicopter, Gao Yi finally said to the officer, "The two corpses are buried under those grapevines over there; how you deal with them is your business, goodbye."
