Chapter 223: Chapter 211 Never Be Captured
Whether this approach was right or wrong, Gao Yi truly didn’t know.
Just like the blind men feeling the elephant, he had only grasped a small part of the truth, guessing the rest.
Since it was a guess, it couldn’t possibly be 100 percent certain.
With no 100 percent certainty, whether they fought or fled, the outcome would be the same.
So they just fought and didn’t worry about the rest.
The sound of a gunshot shattered the forced calm.
A man who had just vaulted over the gate immediately fell, then another immediately turned back and without a word climbed over the locked gate with more agility, and even faster than when he had entered.
At the moment about to leap over the gate, another shot from Feng Biao rang out, and the target fell, dropping at the gate.
Several agents from the National Intelligence Bureau rushed out from the house; they didn’t know what was going on or what Gao Yi’s plan was.
"What’s going on? Why the shooting?"
All their equipment was provided by the National Intelligence Bureau. They were originally there to wait for news, but since shots had been fired, it was natural to ask for clarity.
Gao Yi said over the radio, "You all retreat immediately, ignore everything else. Go."
Gao Yi wanted the National Intelligence Bureau to act as bait, but he didn’t want these men to die; so, since the situation was sliding out of control, he decided to get them out of there.
Uncontrollable and unpredictable, the situation was utterly confused. The reason was simple: Gao Yi and his team’s intelligence capabilities could never compare to the Andic Group.
Two men were consecutively killed, and the car parked outside immediately started reversing, beginning a frantic escape.
Without a word, they opened fire, a move very characteristic of Gao Yi, but after these two shots, the Andic Group would probably have their doubts.
Feng Biao urgently said over the radio, "Check if they have any identification on them, try to determine their identities."
Equally unsure of what to do, several National Intelligence Bureau agents rushed out; some drove, some opened gates, while another checked the two bodies.
"Both men were shot in the chest, and both had guns, but no identification and no distinctive features. They weren’t law enforcement officers. Over."
In Spain, anyone carrying a gun is not a common citizen; they were either legally armed as part of a law enforcement unit or criminals.
However, those legally carrying concealed weapons would definitely carry identification, at least, at the very least, a gun permit as prescribed by law. So, these men with guns but no IDs couldn’t possibly be officials.
Knowing this, they could make the corresponding judgment; the men were from the Andic Group.
Why so sure? Because CIA agents would never act as recklessly as to climb walls; it was a clear invitation for trouble, something only those without choices, mere cannon fodder, would do.
They were stones thrown to test the waters; if retrievable, they would be taken back, if not, then discarded.
Agents from the National Intelligence Bureau again acted as bait, driving away directly.
But just as the two cars were about to turn onto the main road, Feng Biao suddenly urgently said, "Stop the car, come back, helicopter! Helicopter!"
Gao Yi shouted over the radio, "Don’t stop, accelerate, split up! Blend into the traffic!"
This was just an ambush spot, not some strong defensive position. Having them come back would only bring the helicopter there too; having them split up gave them a better chance at survival.
But now, Gao Yi and his team were in trouble.
Gao Yi saw a helicopter rising abruptly from just above the treetops on the side near the main road.
The machine gun fired straight at the two vehicles on the ground, but fortunately, although it seemed like the bullets swept past one of the vehicles, the car didn’t slow down; instead, it zoomed onto the main highway.
"Shhh..."
Drawing a sharp breath, Gao Yi asked in a trembling voice, "How do we run?"
At that moment, Feng Biao was the calm one and said solemnly, "It’s not a Tiger, it’s an EC-135 utility helicopter."
Li Jie followed, "The shots fired just now came from a 7.62 machine gun, a side aircraft door mounted gun."
"That’s good."
"There’s a chance."
Feng Biao and Li Jie responded to each other again, while Gao Yi could not differentiate between a Tiger and an EC-135.
Feng Biao said quietly, "Regardless of which type of helicopter, we’re in trouble, but if it were a Tiger, we’d stand no chance. Against a utility helicopter, there’s a chance for escape. Get moving, get inside the house, find cover."
Having just escaped from the manor and hidden behind the hillside, they now had to return, walking right into an encirclement.
Gao Yi couldn’t understand, as he had never fought in a war, but since the three who had all said so, he decided to go along with it.
Taking cover inside the manor’s stone buildings was like entering a trap.
But staying outside, being picked off one by one by someone in a helicopter was a much faster death.
That’s how Gao Yi understood it, though he didn’t know if he was right or wrong.
Five people started to dash towards the house, and as they were frantically escaping at top speed, Feng Biao, cradling his rifle, looked up and said again, "Helicopter."
He glanced in the direction where he initially spotted the helicopter, saw nothing, then turned to look on the opposite side, where a helicopter was swiftly approaching from the air.
"Run fast! It’s still a long distance away."
Li Jie shouted from the front, not raising his head, just focusing on running forward.
The machine guns were mounted on the side doors, which meant they could only fire from the side, and the helicopter would have to turn its fuselage sideways, or at least tilt, to fire.
But now the helicopter was flying straight towards Gao Yi and his companions, indicating that it had no intention of opening fire.
"Two EC-135s, two NH-90 helicopters, only the Spanish Army Aviation could have these models deployed, not the police."
Lin Xianghua slowed down slightly, waiting for Gao Yi to catch up, then accelerated again, running alongside Gao Yi.
"We have helicopters both in front and behind us, a total of four. The one that appeared earlier went after the car. We are surrounded from the air... The second one also flew away, now it’s two NH-90 helicopters."
Lin Xianghua took another brief look upward amidst the chaos and exclaimed loudly, "Two NH-90s, medium utility helicopters, they shouldn’t have fixed side-door machine guns, probably designed mainly for troop transport."
Regardless, they absolutely could not allow the helicopters to freely shoot from above, as shooting from helicopters at the ground is especially easy, but shooting down a helicopter from the ground is exceedingly difficult.
Fortunately, they were at a distance, but what mattered more was that the helicopter’s occupants seemed intent on forcing Gao Yi and his team into the house to trap them inside.
Thus, although the helicopters were already in a position to fire, they had not yet opened fire. The first helicopter to arrive circled above, watching as each member of Gao Yi’s team dashed into the old stone house.
Running 200 meters was not too strenuous or time-consuming.
Feng Biao and Li Jie took positions on either side of the door while Gao Yi rushed to the center of the living room, took a couple of deep breaths, and urgently asked, "What next?"
"I don’t know."
"This is something you should answer."
Li Jie and Feng Biao’s responses shared the same sentiment. Racing into this house was like reaching a temporary goal; now they were completely surrounded. What to do next was up to their leader, Gao Yi.
In other words, even a deity would be helpless in this situation.
Feng Biao actually felt somewhat despairing because, in a normal battle scenario, being forced by two helicopters into a building from which they couldn’t exit meant that the battle was essentially over.
If these were armed helicopters, what would follow would be cannon fire, rocket bombing, and even possibly a few anti-tank missiles, enough to demolish any house.
But this was Spain, close to Madrid. Perhaps the Spanish military dared not use overly excessive heavy weaponry.
If heavy weapons weren’t used, it meant sending special forces for direct assault, which gave them some hope.
Lin Xianghua rushed to the window, pulled down the curtain, and then from behind it observed and said, "The helicopters have landed, they’re deploying infantry, we’re surrounded, no need to worry now!"
Infantry disembarking from helicopters to encircle them was indeed a relief, as there was no longer a concern of being blasted to smithereens by helicopter gunfire.
The men descending from the aircraft were all dressed in black, wearing black helmets, with only a bit of bright color on their armbands.
After observing for a moment, Lin Xianghua shouted again, "Military aircraft, police special forces. The good news is that GEO doesn’t have heavy weaponry, the bad news is both Spanish military and police forces are deployed."
Was it really a jinx, who mentioned earlier that Spain might deploy GEO troops and then it actually happened?
"Two teams of twelve members each."
From the two helicopters, twenty-six people disembarked, twenty-four were special forces members and two were leaders, one in a suit and the other in a police uniform.
These two were the field commanders.
The two teams quickly dispersed after landing; the first team tightly surrounded Gao Yi’s house while the other stayed to guard the main entrance, seemingly preparing for a frontal assault.
The surrounding wall was very low, serving more as a decoration; they could see the people outside, through the top of the wall.
Since Gao Yi and his team could see them, they also had a chance to attack them—these two leaders were quite bold, behaving as though they were certain that Gao Yi and his team wouldn’t dare open fire.
After a brief exchange between the two leaders, the one in the suit picked up a megaphone, stepped aside, and holding the megaphone shouted, "Those inside listen up, you’re surrounded. It’s the Spanish GEO troops encircling you. Surrender and you still have a chance to live. Do you understand?"
This was said in English.
On Spanish soil, to urge surrender in English, explicitly telling those surrounded that they were encircled by GEO troops which meant they had a chance to live.
This wasn’t a hint—it was a clear message: surrender quickly, or else you will suffer even more under our hands.
The person speaking was definitely not from Spain. Being with GEO, it was unlikely to be someone from the Andic Group—it could only be the CIA.
Gao Yi thought for a moment, then turned to Feng Biao and said, "Kill him."
Stop chitchatting. Having earlier captured two prisoners as evidence, Gao Yi preferred to die in this house, or even take his own life, rather than fall into the hands of the CIA.
Gao Yi asked himself, secure in the knowledge that he did not possess Abdulla’s capabilities, and what was more crucial was, if he were captured, no one would come to his rescue.
Therefore, it was better to go all out, fight fiercely, either break out alive or die trying.
In any case, they must not be captured alive—not under any circumstances.
