Chapter 334: Chapter 313: Blood Sacrifice One

Dongming City

Xu Ruoruo gasped heavily, sweat continuously streaming down her temples. Her eyes intensely focused through the dusty haze opposite her where figures in black slowly retreated, some apparently reloading their rocket launchers.

"We can’t let them continue like this," Xu Ruoruo realized. Although she was at the peak of D-grade, not C-grade or higher, dealing with this scale of conventional weaponry with the mere hope of self-preservation was already a stretch. If she didn’t figure something out soon, she feared she really would die here today.

HISS!

White smoke spread again, a piercing shriek echoing throughout the area.

"Not again!" she bit her lower lip, her sword tracing three arcs before her, the silver traces lingering in the air for a moment before fading, setting up a three-layered defense.

Suddenly, from the haze opposite, a pair of eyes emitting a faint green glow focused intently on her.

"Focus!" the woman opposite shouted.

Xu Ruoruo’s expression changed, swiftly retreating.

A dense barrage of rockets came flying, almost completely enveloping her position, all converging to a point, similar to countless threads on a parachute.

BOOM!

The shards of glass, already shattered by a previous explosion, flew out from the building once again.

Xu Ruoruo could hear nothing, her entire body numb. The blast left her with hardly any sense of touch.

She clung to the edge of a hole blasted open in the second floor with one hand, her body dangling in mid-air.

Blood slowly dripped from her hair.

"Dammit!" Xu Ruoruo tightly held onto the longsword with one hand, the other gripping the edge of the hole, where explosion-twisted rebars protruded chaotically, their jagged ends exposed in a strange torque.

She couldn’t understand why the missiles seemingly bent their path to converge on her exact location, with the impact from dozens of rockets concentrated within less than a meter’s space around her, their explosive power, simply too intense. No matter how she dodged, those missiles would surely explode right beside her.

"This ability...can it command rocket shells?" she weakly asked.

"Of course," said the woman in black, who approached the edge of the hole, looking down at Xu Ruoruo from above.

As the smoke from the explosions slowly cleared, the situation of the two women became visible to the police and spectators below.

Murmurs of astonishment softly reached them.

"Listen up on the second floor, drop your weapons immediately and release the hostages, stop your futile resistance! You’re surrounded, there’s no escape, surrender now for a chance at a lighter sentence!" the loudspeaker below blared once more.

The woman in black, her long, straight hair falling over her shoulders, smirked. There seemed to be an indescribable aggressiveness in her eyes, her gaze intimidating. She stood on the edge of the hole, looking down scornfully at the police cars below and chuckled.

"Hua Nation’s police are so stupid, and the strength of the Inner World is so weak! Pathetic! A country of so many and yet no decent fighter?"

She swiftly drew a black military knife from her thigh. The blade spun a few times in the palm of her hand before she gripped it tightly.

"Alright, time to send you to hell. To return the White Demon Sword with just this level of skill!"

BANG!

A gunshot sounded.

A sharp, bullet-sized object suddenly appeared on the woman in black’s face. "A sniper?" she glanced in the direction from which the bullet came.

HISS!

The bullet instantly reversed, flying back the way it came.

Ah! A faint scream came from the rooftop in the distance, and soon, a group of people were seen helping a man, his face covered in blood, holding his left ear, into an ambulance that had just arrived.

"Tch! Missed, huh?" The woman in black scoffed.

From afar, a tall, muscular black man slowly made his way through the crowd toward the governmental building.

A tiny, almost invisible, earpiece was tucked into his right ear.

"Jack, you’re there? The team leader wants you to deal with that woman in black clothes up there. Make it quick. They’re not just a few," said a voice through the earpiece.

"Got it, you’re so annoying! I know what to do!" the black man replied impatiently. "Just some Fire God Cult trash, what’s there to panic about?"

He muttered a few curses and pulled a Special Enforcement Authorization from his jacket pocket.

"Stop! It’s dangerous ahead, terrorists have taken over the governmental building. If you want to spectate, move back," a few police officers approached him.

The black man grinned. "I’m a special operative from the local National Security Department, here to handle this. Let me speak to your leader," he said, flashing his badge at the officers.

The officers looked at each other.

"Didn’t we already have National Security people go in?"

"Not sure, might be reinforcements arriving later..."

At the edge of the second floor hole.

The woman in black smirked as she stepped on Xu Ruoruo’s hand which was gripping the edge.

"Let go? Why not let go? With your strength, falling won’t kill you. What are you afraid of?"

Xu Ruoruo endured the severe pain, clutching tightly. She knew if she let go, she’d have no chance of survival. Hanging in mid-air made her an easy target, and she wouldn’t be able to dodge effectively.

SNAP!

Xu Ruoruo quickly twisted around, her hands swiftly reaching out to grasp another edge.

The woman in black laughed darkly as her blade struck the cement where Xu Ruoruo had been moments earlier. Bits of cement fell away. "Quick response, huh."

"Average," Xu Ruoruo responded evenly, glancing at the first floor where the windows had been shattered by the earlier explosion, leaving only sharp remnants.

"You’re waiting for backup, huh? So am I. Don’t think about running to the first floor, our people are there too. Just be a good girl and wait with me," the woman in black said, her mouth twisting into a smirk as she looked down from above.

Xu Ruoruo silently relaxed. No wonder the opponent, despite having the upper hand, hadn’t moved; she was waiting for Xu Ruoruo’s reinforcements.

Suddenly, HISS! The woman in black dodged to the side as a fist-sized chunk of concrete brushed past her. A thin line of blood was drawn across her face.

The woman turned around to look.

Two figures, one tall and one short, were flipping themselves up from the broken part of the second floor that had completely collapsed. One was a foreign Black man, and the other was an Asian man with the same yellow skin and black hair.

The black-clad individuals from earlier had already evacuated the scene orderly, leaving it empty except for the two men, a woman in black, and Xu Ruoruo, who was hanging on the edge of the hole on the second floor.

"Jack, it’s your turn. You excel at handling them," the Asian man said with a smile.

Jack, the Black man, grinned, showing his white teeth. "This is easy." He deftly pulled out a small, silver sphere from his pocket.

"Poor fellow..." he said pityingly, as he looked at the woman in black.

"That is!!" the woman in black exclaimed, her pupils constricting as she stared intensely at the small silver sphere in his hand. "An Electromagnetic Pulse Ball?"

"Correct... too bad there’s no prize!" Jack casually tossed the sphere.

Ding!!

The small silver ball instantly emitted a crisp sound similar to a musical instrument, then like glass, numerous fine cracks densely appeared on the surface of the ball.

Crack!

Suddenly, the silver ball exploded silently, transforming into countless fine silver shards that turned into finer and finer silver dust, completely filling the entire space like a silver mist.

"No!! Shit!!" The woman in black screamed frantically, clutching her head. "My head!!!"

Numerous blue veins monstrously appeared on her face and neck.

"People from the Fire God Cult are so pitiful, falsely powerful. Too easily restrained by technological products," the Asian man sighed. "A C-level powerhouse actually got easily taken down by a technological product."

"You make it sound easy. If they hadn’t been so careless and left only an electronic control user here, along with a metal ability user, we would have been in trouble," Jack said softly, walking over.

By now, the woman in black had completely collapsed on the ground, wailing. Numerous fine blue veins emerged from all the exposed skin on her body, like countless blue worms.

"The chip in her brain is destroyed; she’s free now, but she’s also done." Jack shook his head and kicked the woman aside.

Xu Ruoruo flipped from the edge and leaped into the second floor, stabilizing herself. Despite being covered in blood and looking somewhat miserable, she actually hadn’t sustained any injuries since the initial blast.

"Who are you?" she asked, gazing at the two men with confusion.

"You don’t need to worry about that. We’re not a part of your system. Let’s go, Jack," the Asian man said with a smile.

"Ok, what should we do with this woman?" asked Jack.

"Since she’s already ruined, and once she wakes up, she’ll be an idiot, her biological chip automatically destroying some of her critical brain tissues. What? You got any ideas?"

"Heh, you know..." Jack licked his lips.

"Suit yourself. But the women from the Fire God Cult have time bombs implanted in their bodies. If you don’t mind that."

"Ehh... then let’s forget it." Jack reluctantly swept his gaze over the woman writhing on the ground.

The two quickly walked downstairs.

"Ruoruo sis! Are you alright?" the young girl who had previously been following Xu Ruoruo also made her way up, taking a startled look at the woman on the ground. But seeing her in such pain, she seemed no longer dangerous, and the girl slowly approached.

"Where’s Brother Li? Where’s Huang Fei?"

Xu Ruoruo’s expression darkened. "They’re dead."

"Dead again?!" The girl paled.

"Let’s go." Xu Ruoruo coughed softly, spitting out some dark red blood clots. She had also sustained serious injuries.

Suddenly, she turned back to look down from the hole on the second floor.

In the crowd, three distinct figures were passing by nearby. At the forefront was a young man with a slender build, seemingly aware of Xu Ruoruo’s gaze.

From a hundred meters away, the young man suddenly turned his face, revealing a cold smile.

"Ruoruo sis, what’s wrong?"

"Nothing, nothing," Xu Ruoruo lowered her head, no longer daring to look. In that moment, she faintly saw a moon-white color in the young man’s smile, dazzlingly bright.

***************

On the outskirts of Dongming City.

9:15 PM

In a low patch of bushes.

A group of figures gathered together, some standing, some sitting, without any light except the moonlight that barely revealed the metallic reflections on their bodies and arms.

"Ella is dead. It seems there are people here who know our weaknesses," a man sitting among the shadows said in a deep voice.

"We never act alone; coordinated combat is our strength. She was foolish, and her death is her own fault," a woman’s voice scornfully said.

Suddenly, a rustling sound came from a distance.

"Who!!!"

The person in charge of perimeter security yelled.

Hisss!!

A spray of blood flew.

The cold light of a silver blade directly decapitated a figure.

A face full of excitement appeared behind the blade.

"Ha!!" Intense panting sounds emitted from the person.

"Kill him!!"

"Left!! Fast!!"

"Ah!!"

The silver Japanese Sword quickly moved through the grass from one spot to another. One body after another was directly cut apart. The entire area was thrown into chaos. (To be continued.
