Chapter 171: Chapter 165 Ambush 1
Whoosh!
A sudden splash of cold water hit Lin Fei’s face, instantly awakening him. Drying his face with a towel, Lin Fei shook the water droplets from his hair and walked out of the restroom.
The entire suite was decorated in light yellow, with a large bed opposite a projection TV. The desk, TV cabinet, and bedside tables were all made of mahogany. The floor was covered with a light yellow, slightly greyish carpet.
He drew back the curtains, and the morning light immediately illuminated the entire room. Fine dust could be faintly seen in the beams of light.
Thump thump thump.
A rhythmic knocking sound came from the door.
Lin Fei walked over and opened the door. Standing at the doorway was An Caiyuan.
"The route is already under control, everyone is gathering in the lobby below."
Lin Fei nodded, "Let’s go then." He picked up the black longsword hanging by the door. This was a sharpened longsword customized for him by An Caiyuan. Although it couldn’t compare with others, it wouldn’t have much impact on his current strength.
Having been here for several days, and with the deadline mentioned by An Caiyuan approaching in four days, it seemed right to take action.
Stepping out of the room, the Korean man, An Dongyong, was leaning against the doorway. He was a psychic with mid-level D-rank power. Lin Fei could clearly sense the extent of power within An Dongyong. Compared to his own C-rank power, he could use this to gauge his closeness to the strength of a D-rank powerhouse.
"Tsk! Acting like such a big shot." An Dongyong murmured disdainfully, his voice low as if talking to himself, but loud enough for Lin Fei to hear. It was obviously intentional.
An Caiyuan gave him a glance but said nothing.
An Dongyong quickly grew impatient, "Okay, okay, I get it, I won’t talk recklessly anymore."
Lin Fei ignored him, taking the longsword in his hand and gently placing it into the black sword bag, slinging it over his back.
"Let’s go," he said, leading the way to the elevator.
The habits formed after becoming a branch leader, along with his powerful strength, gave him a natural dominance, always occupying the core wherever he was.
The corridor was still in light yellow tones, and as people walked on the grey-yellow carpet, only faint footsteps could be heard.
As Lin Fei and the others walked toward the elevator, a room on the left suddenly opened. A middle-aged man with disheveled brown hair that fell like seaweed on his shoulders walked out. He had a goatee and was dressed in a high-collared black jacket, black casual pants, and shiny leather shoes, as if he was not preparing to kill someone but to attend a party instead.
The man was tall, and even though Lin Fei was 1.75 meters tall, he was only parallel to the man’s ear as he passed by him.
"Hey, good morning." The man smiled and greeted Lin Fei in English.
Lin Fei glanced at him briefly.
"Good morning," he responded calmly in English.
An Dongyong and An Caiyuan simply ignored him and walked past.
"Nutcase," An Dongyong muttered under his breath.
Boom!
Suddenly, a loud explosion sounded, and the long-haired man vanished in an instant. An Dongyong, as if hit by a train, was violently slammed against the wall. A triangular gray light screen had appeared at some point, shielding An Dongyong.
"Cough cough..." An Dongyong didn’t seem seriously hurt, just shaken. He now began cursing loudly. Although it wasn’t quite like the curses from Hua Nation, the general tone was the same.
The middle-aged man stopped his hand just an inch before An Dongyong’s neck, where a thin gray light screen blocked it. However, the immense force still pinned An Dongyong against the wall, preventing him from moving.
Lin Fei and An Caiyuan turned around, merely watching without reacting.
Crack!
Suddenly, numerous cracks appeared on the surface of the gray light screen. However, An Dongyong’s face showed no sign of panic; instead, he looked smugly at the middle-aged man.
With a crashing sound, the gray light screen suddenly shattered into countless fragments, which dispersed into the air.
However, the middle-aged man grunted, released his hand, and staggered two steps back.
"The rebounder An Dongyong?" he asked in Korean. "What a letdown!" The man turned, walked into his room, and slammed the door shut.
An Dongyong’s eyes widened, seeming somewhat incredulous.
"He actually wasn’t hurt? I can 100% rebound someone else’s damage!"
"That simply means he was just playing around with you," An Caiyuan said indifferently, her expression seemingly unchanged. "Pirate Philip, a mixed-blood of Japanese and British descent. The outside world assesses his strength as D-class. But the true strength of these famous experts, apart from themselves, nobody really knows."
Lin Fei couldn’t help but look forward to this gathering even more.
An Caiyuan continued, "This time, we are just among the weakest factions here. My older brother and the others are the main force. So, in terms of the so-called meeting, I guess we won’t have much say. You all should be mentally prepared."
An Dongyong adjusted his clothes and nodded.
Lin Fei turned and continued walking toward the elevator. "Let’s go."
**************
In the hotel lobby on the first floor, there were already several people scattered around, their attires ranging from formal suits to casual everyday wear, and there was even an old man dressed in a gray hooded robe, resembling a medieval penitent monk.
Coming down with Lin Fei and the other two were two people, a man and a woman, who appeared to be twins around thirty years old, both with cold expressions. They completely ignored Lin Fei and the others. This was also the normal reaction from other people in the hotel.
Walking on the spiral staircase, Lin Fei observed the situation below.
In the spacious lobby, people naturally divided into four areas. Those sitting in the area farthest from the staircase seemed close-knit; at the center sat a young man with a small mustache, who was smiling and talking to a bald strong man next to him. The bald man occasionally nodded while drinking his beverage, and others around them chimed in from time to time. The atmosphere was the most harmonious among all.
Lin Fei activated his True Force and was just about to sense the aura from that area when he instantly felt a massive force nestled next to the bald man. In terms of level, it was at least C-class peak. Lin Fei instantly became cautious and dared not make any further movements.
In the area closest to the staircase below, only five people were seated: four men and one woman, yet the four men seemed to revolve around the woman. She wore a white shirt and violet low-waist jeans, covered by a purple-black coat, looking trendy and beautiful. She was busily tapping on her phone, paying little mind to the men’s flattering words. From Lin Fei’s angle, he could clearly see the colorful gaming interface on the woman’s phone. One of the men, exuding the aura of an ordinary person, was likely one of An Caiyuan’s brothers.
In the area near the hotel entrance on the left. Six people were present, four seated and a young man standing, leaning against the hotel’s glass windows, incessantly flipping a metal lighter. The others had cold expressions, including the man with an ordinary aura, who should be one of An Caiyuan’s brothers. Next to him, a short-haired old man in a gray priest’s robe held a pocket watch and muttered with his eyes closed.
In the area on the right, there were only four people, and among them, only two had auras around D-class; the rest were ordinary and ignorable.
From Lin Fei’s sensing, the woman playing with the phone, the bald man, and the man flipping the lighter on the left all had C-class auras. Among them, the bald man and the woman both possessed peak C-class auras, not to be underestimated.
If Lin Fei had to face either of the two alone, he stood no chance of winning. Of course, it didn’t mean certain defeat; Yan Shi’s combat experience and the speed of Tracing Shadow Sword Art could potentially allow him a good chance to escape. In simple terms, Lin Fei was at a peak where he absolutely couldn’t defeat a C-class, but nor should he have problems with levels below that.
While descending the staircase, Lin Fei also roughly identified everyone’s aura.
An Caiyuan’s area was near the weakest right side, because there were only two of them. After the three sat down, people slowly started coming down from upstairs, continuously joining the women’s area. Among them was the long-haired middle-aged man they had encountered earlier, Pirate Philip.
The waiter brought breakfast pastries and beverages. It was clear Sprite, served in a thin glass, paired with cake and bread. It was hard to believe that a four-star hotel would offer such a simple combination.
"Big Brother’s subordinates include experts skilled in the use of poison, so although these foods have been checked by professionals, it’s best not to eat them. If you have brought your own snacks, just take care of it yourself," An Caiyuan warned.
Lin Fei nodded.
An Dongyong pointed to the bald group and asked, "Then why aren’t they afraid?"
An Caiyuan responded indifferently, "The Blaze Tank Jason, poison can’t kill him."
An Dongyong’s face changed, "A Class C powerholder." Perhaps knowing some information about Jason, he immediately stopped talking.
"Jason is a notorious powerholder active in Southeast Asia, known for his unpredictability and volatile nature, a major fugitive in several countries including the Hua Nation. It’s unexpected to see him here," An Caiyuan explained.
She fished a few pieces of chocolate from her jacket pocket and tossed them to the two companions.
Lin Fei looked at her, took the chocolates but didn’t eat them, instead, he pocketed them. Then he took out some hard candies, unwrapped one, and popped it into his mouth.
However, An Dongyong carefree ate a few pieces of chocolate right away.
"Jason once single-handedly wiped out a 300-man special operations team from India. His combat style is like a human-shaped tank ablaze with flames, charging headlong without caution. That’s also the origin of his nickname," An Caiyuan paused and then continued.
"Sitting by the main door, the man tossing his phone around, is named Luo Shiran, definitely a pseudonym. Known by the alias ’Green Demon Hand’ in the northern Hua Nation, he once killed thirteen powerholders in a battle with the Tower of the Dark Night—most were Class D and three were Class C, gaining fame across Asia. He is one of the rising young masters of the past seventy years. Rumor has it he has shady connections with the top ranks of Hua Nation," she said.
"Next is the old man in the gray priest robe; if I’m not mistaken, he should be from the Religious Faction’s Dark Chapter. The Dark Chapter is one of the notorious cults in America, marked by blood sacrifices, demon summoning, and massacres. I heard recently that my second brother has been in contact with them. I didn’t expect he’d dare to invite them to the Hua Nation."
"Lastly, the woman in the purple windbreaker, known by the moniker Violet. She is a well-known powerholder domestically and is affiliated with a government organization. Known for her languid nature, she once perfectly completed a mission to eliminate a Class C powerholder and is extremely strong, but I don’t know much else about her."
After briefly introducing the most powerful figures, An Caiyuan began to introduce some of the notable Class D powerholders.
However, Lin Fei was no longer paying attention; he had heard all the information he needed. The rest about the Class D powerholders was of no consequence. (To be continued.
