The white dot on the map had already disappeared. Looking at the blue light point, Alka knew today was the day to claim it. He carefully rolled up the map, placed it in his backpack, shouldered the pack, and pushed open the wooden door of his room, stepping out onto the deck.
The ship had secretly approached Meister Island the previous night and was now hidden within a concave reef of the island.
"Alright, let’s land on the island. Be careful to stay hidden; don’t draw too much attention," Andre said, taking the lead by jumping from the deck to a distant reef. A few leaps later, they used the reefs to reach the base of the sea cliff and began to climb.
Chadite and Vanessa followed closely behind.
At this moment, Old Bobby grabbed Jason’s wrist. "Old folks like me hate this kind of intense activity. If you don’t mind, carry me over."
Hearing Old Bobby’s words and seeing his slight smile, Jason rolled his eyes helplessly and squatted down. "Alright, alright, old folks sure know how to order people around." He then carried Old Bobby and followed the others.
Alka also nodded to Sang Kaka before leaving the ship. Sang Kaka, naturally, had to guard the vessel. Unless the ship was moored in an extremely concealed location or docked at an exceptionally safe harbor, a core member would always remain to protect it.
They scaled the sea cliff and crossed over the mountaintop onto the island. All the way, they traveled quickly in silence, using the dim morning mist as cover. Due to their swift movement, they soon arrived at the entry point of the Treasure Vault.
Alka looked around. Sure enough, it was the mountaintop where the abandoned watchtower stood.
"This is it, Old Bobby," Andre said, turning his gaze to Old Bobby beside him.
Old Bobby nodded and approached the edge of the abandoned watchtower. With both hands, he took out one thumb-sized pellet after another from the small pouch on his waist and placed them at the edge of the watchtower. Then he took out a palm-sized wooden stick from his backpack, inserting it in a corner near the doorway. Only then did he turn around and nod.
This was an early warning system, capable of quickly notifying Old Bobby if anyone approached. It could even allow him to clearly sense how many people there were and whether any of them had triggered his setup.
"Let’s go in." With that, Andre led the group into the rickety watchtower.
The entire inside of the watchtower had long been abandoned, filled with weeds and various plants. The stone staircase leading to the upper floors had also collapsed; the stairs along the edge were unusable.
Andre went to the center and waved his hand over the ground. Blue, water-like ripples appeared. The plants and a thin layer of soil on the ground were pushed aside, piling up around them.
Was this the disguise they set up when they came here before? Alka wondered.
As the plants and soil scattered, a stone-tiled floor was revealed beneath. An evident circular crack could be seen along its edge. Andre punched the ground below him. A few broken stones were knocked out, along with some mud and dust. A round hole was revealed in the center of the stone-tiled ground, just the right size to fit the Round Disc Key.
He took out the Palm Disc from his backpack and placed it firmly into the hole. As the Palm Disc fit snugly in, a faint trembling sound came from beneath their feet. Mud, sand, and lime dust billowed up.
A massive circular stone slab with a radius of two to three meters slowly sank downward. It took only over ten seconds for the entire stone slab to descend about six to seven meters.
Everyone had already taken out their lanterns. They stood before a large, round metal door. Various patterns were engraved on the door, along with a round indentation in its center. Andre took out the Insect Disc he had obtained and fitted it into the indentation.
RUMBLE.
With the sound echoing, a clear light of Magic Power appeared on the iron door. The disc was split in two and integrated completely into the iron door, which then opened to both sides. Inside, magical flames ignited one by one, their eerie blue light illuminating the interior.
What lay ahead was a massive chamber, extremely spacious, with exceptionally flat stone tiles underfoot. Three Knight statues clad in Metal Armor, gripping Sharp Swords, stood guard in the center of the chamber.
Seeing these three statues, Alka became wary. These statues are likely the so-called trial. Could they actually move? Given the scene, it wasn’t surprising for Alka to think along these lines.
"Wait, wait," Old Bobby suddenly cautioned everyone. He then pulled out a small monocular from his pocket, put it to his eye, and looked inside.
"Wow, a very old model! It’s surprising to see one here," Old Bobby began, looking through the monocular. "The craftsmanship is quite good, well-maintained, almost unused. A shame, now it’s only of collection value."
Old Bobby continued to peer through the monocular, muttering things the others couldn’t understand. Then, he put the monocular away and explained to the group, "Those three are Spell Guards, products of the Suen Empire Forging Workshop. Their strength is about One Spiral. They have strong defense, but not much else noteworthy."
"You mean, once we enter, these things will attack us?" Andre asked from the side.
Bobby nodded.
Chadite couldn’t help asking, "Are these things valuable?"
"Of course, they’re valuable, and not just ordinarily so. A single statue is worth at least 12 Golden Sail. These things are even rarer now, and many wealthy people are willing to collect them. If you have the right connections, you might even sell one for 15 or even 18 Golden Sail."
Hearing Old Bobby’s words, a greedy light flashed in everyone’s eyes.
Just then, Old Bobby poured cold water on their excitement. "There’s a reason they’re so expensive," he continued. "These three have likely already been activated, which means we can only smash and defeat them. Preserving them intact is almost impossible. Otherwise, why do you think they’re so expensive now?"
"What a pity!" Chadite exclaimed, looking at the three statues. This meant they were about to destroy items worth over 30 Golden Sail, completely at odds with the Treasure Hunter profession.
"Alright, prepare for battle," Andre announced.
Hearing his words, everyone nodded. Their expressions turned serious as they adopted combat stances and slowly stepped into the chamber.
As they stepped in, the three statues seemed to come to life. A blue light flickered from within their helmets, and they grasped the Giant Swords that had been standing before them. Accompanied by the clang of metal, the three Knights charged at the group from three different directions.
