Chapter 132: Chapter 132: You did that on purpose, didn’t you?
Although Le Tong had once seen Ji Baby downstairs at Ji Mansion, she always felt that it was wise to say less about her boss’s private affairs, to avoid making mistakes.
"This really seems like Mr. Ji’s style. I heard he took his son away a few days ago and didn’t let Mr. Ji and his wife see their grandson!"
It seems that the rift between Ji Rui and his father has already spread in high society!
Le Tong was very surprised inside, but she couldn’t show it, after all, such matters were not something she should comment on.
Luo Yifan seemed to see through Le Tong’s thoughts, glanced at his mother, and said, "Mom, how can rumors like these be credible? Don’t speak carelessly!"
Mrs. Luo was not angry at her son’s retort; she just laughed and said, "The rich are indeed willful!"
Le Tong internally retorted; for something like this to come from the mouth of the Luo Family’s chairman’s wife, who has billions, it’s truly as ridiculous as it gets. To 99.9% of people, the Luo Family is already quite wealthy, isn’t it?
Thinking this, Le Tong felt that Mrs. Luo was even more willful than the Mr. Ji she was talking about.
Mrs. Luo probably noticed from their conversation that Le Tong didn’t like mentioning Ji Rui, so she started discussing fashion and beauty tips with Le Tong and Luo Yuanyuan.
Le Tong was equally uninterested in these topics, but compared to gossiping about Ji Rui, she preferred these non-intrusive subjects. Moreover, the two elders seemed very enthusiastic about these topics, so she only needed to smile and nod in agreement.
The group hadn’t been chatting in the living room for long when a man dressed like a butler in a black suit walked in and bowed his head to Luo Yifan, saying, "Second Young Master, the party preparations are ready, and it’s time."
Hearing the man say this, Le Tong remembered that Luo Yifan was the second in line, and that he had an older brother, but today, she didn’t see his brother.
"Alright, let’s go greet the guests."
As the birthday star’s companion, Le Tong had no choice but to accompany the Luo family elders and Luo Yifan to stand outside the banquet hall to greet guests. Almost every guest who entered would say to Luo Yifan, "Second Young Master Luo, your girlfriend is beautiful!"
Le Tong couldn’t explain no matter how hard she tried, and was in such a bind that she almost wanted to stick "I’m not Luo Yifan’s girlfriend" on her forehead.
Standing awkwardly at the door until most of the guests had arrived, Le Tong and Luo Yifan finally turned and went into the banquet hall. As the birthday star, Luo Yifan, had to go up to the podium and give a speech. Normally, this had nothing to do with Le Tong, but after his welcome and thanks to the guests, Luo Yifan insisted that Le Tong stand with him for a commemorative photo on the podium.
Being the birthday star, Luo Yifan’s wishes had to be respected; Le Tong naturally couldn’t refuse. Once on stage, she deliberately kept a slight distance while standing beside Luo Yifan.
Unexpectedly, a hand at her side was suddenly grabbed by Luo Yifan, and she was pulled close. Their fingers interlocked as their bodies leaned into each other, and the flashes from cameras below the stage lit up in quick succession.
Le Tong’s eyes flashed with a trace of astonishment, and in her uncertainty, her gaze swept unfocused over the banquet hall, only to meet a pair of sharp and eerie eyes at the entrance.
Those eyes, which Le Tong knew too well, like a lone wolf in the grassland, emitted a fierce and deep green glow.
Meeting those deep green lights, Le Tong inexplicably felt a wave of panic.
As for why she felt panicked, even she couldn’t figure it out.
The man at the entrance, with piercing eyes, scanned Le Tong from top to bottom through the crowd. His expression was unclear to Le Tong, but instinctively, she felt his gaze was filled with disdain and mockery.
Indeed, in his heart, she was always a woman who would go to any lengths to marry into a wealthy family—this scene just confirmed what he’d thought all along.
This misunderstanding made Le Tong both angry and helpless.
But what good was anger? She always managed to get caught by him in situations that made him overthink!
Even so, if she truly were a woman willing to do anything to climb into a wealthy family, what **** difference would it make?
After all, the family she was trying to marry into wasn’t his, and it had nothing to do with him, so what’s he sneering at or mocking!
With these thoughts, Le Tong’s confidence immediately rose significantly. Just moments ago, she had been like a deflated balloon, but now she was quickly filled with air, smiling and nodding at Ji Rui from a distance.
Ji Rui withdrew his gaze without any expression, turning to greet a few of the Luo family elders.
Pulled by Luo Yifan and facing the photographers below the stage, Le Tong also withdrew her gaze. Resigned, she leaned against Luo Yifan, flashing a brilliant smile at the camera.
After smiling until her face stiffened, Luo Yifan finally led Le Tong to the center of the podium, took two glasses of champagne from a servant, handed one to Le Tong, and raised his own toward everyone.
"Today is my 28th birthday. Thank you to all the elders and friends for coming. Here, I shall drink this first one, and thereafter, everyone, please enjoy freely!"
On the podium, Luo Yifan extended the drink towards Le Tong. Le Tong had no choice but to nervously clink glasses with him as they faced each other, tilting their heads to down the drink together.
A wave of cheers erupted from below, and then some began to chant, "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss..."
The chanting came one after another. Even if Le Tong were thick-skinned, she was made thoroughly embarrassed, and could only shoot a glare at Luo Yifan, signaling him to quickly address the situation.
Not like her, Luo Yifan actually shared the feelings of the rowdy guests below. But while he had the desire, he lacked the courage, only daring to gaze at her obsessively. Until Le Tong maliciously pinched his palm several times did he snap back, apologetically smiling at everyone, "Sorry, my lady companion is rather shy!"
If it weren’t for being in public, Le Tong wouldn’t have trusted herself to control the impulse to give him a hard punch.
What did he mean by "my lady companion is rather shy"? It was clearly misleading, leading everyone to believe that they were in an intimate relationship where they could kiss at will!
Well, now jumping into the Yellow River wouldn’t cleanse this misunderstanding!
Le Tong slightly turned away from view, glaring hard at him from the corner of her eye, "Luo Yifan! You’re courting death!" she whispered through clenched teeth.
Their relationship, though stalled at a certain stage, was still one of several years of friendship, with more casual speaking, and a genuine interaction between them.
"I must say, Tongtong, your shy look is really not like you at all!" Luo Yifan fearlessly added.
Le Tong took a deep breath to suppress the urge to just walk away.
"Luo Yifan, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?!"
