Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Taking You to Meet My Parents
Le Tong smiled and said "thank you" to Luo Yifan, yet she felt an impulse to pull her hand out of Luo Yifan’s tight grasp.
Even Le Tong found it strange. She could accept the shoulder-to-shoulder intimacy with someone like Yang Sheng but found it difficult to accept the hand-holding intimacy like Luo Yifan was doing now.
She admitted that in this society, where people could easily sleep with strangers, she was conservatively unwilling. So, several times, she was thankful she had no memory of what happened with Ji Rui that night, otherwise, she didn’t know to what extent she would despise and loathe herself.
With someone like Yang Sheng, shoulder-to-shoulder closeness was an expression of brotherly affection, they were good friends, good buddies.
But holding hands with the opposite sex is an intimate act meant for lovers.
She had no experience in love, so aside from being helped while being held by a man, Luo Yifan was the first man to hold her hand palm to palm.
He held it tightly, and from the slight sweat in his palm, Le Tong judged he was just as nervous as she was!
Le Tong sighed silently to herself, feeling a bit overwhelmed, yet unable to return to the night Zhang Yi had an incident. If she knew touching Luo Yifan was involved in helping Zhang Yi, perhaps she would have sought help from someone else.
But besides Luo Yuanyuan, who else could she turn to? Yang Sheng wasn’t in R City, would she really have to turn to Ji Rui like the last time she was robbed?
Le Tong was startled by her own thoughts of Ji Rui in such a purely private social setting, and she was surprised by it!
Aside from being her boss, Ji Rui wasn’t anyone else to her. Although she seemed to have feelings for him akin to friendship, it was just her one-sided emotional investment. To Ji Rui, she was just a subordinate, a little secretary who wouldn’t have any other involvement beyond work.
What made her think that if she asked him for help, he would certainly assist?
This meant that in this entire matter, as long as she wanted to help Zhang Yi, the current situation was almost irreversible.
Enough thinking, the next important thing is how to handle this party smartly, trying to be appropriate without letting Luo Yifan have too many thoughts, but that’s not easy.
"Tongtong, I’ll take you to meet my parents!"
The party hadn’t even officially started, but a tougher scene was already coming first.
The hesitation in Le Tong’s eyes didn’t escape Luo Yifan’s notice, as he focused intently on Le Tong and gently tapped her hand with his fingers to reassure her.
"Don’t worry, my parents, unlike my uncle, are very easygoing and won’t make things difficult for you."
Le Tong silently groaned. In such a situation, she would have preferred Luo Yifan’s parents to be difficult people, so she could take the opportunity to leave.
Even though having such a last-minute retreating thought seemed irresponsible. But ever since she stepped into Luo Yifan’s house, the thought of leaving hadn’t stopped running through her mind.
Under Luo Yifan’s eager gaze, Le Tong felt more guilty, but she could only harden her heart and say, "What are you saying, whose parents would make things difficult for their child’s friends?!"
The brightness in Luo Yifan’s eyes dimmed a little because of Le Tong’s words, but he couldn’t refute her, because indeed, they were merely friends.
"That’s right, they never make things difficult for my friends!"
Luo Yifan’s tone carried a hint of helplessness, and his smile had a trace of irrepressible melancholy.
Luo Yifan led Le Tong downstairs. In the living room sat four middle-aged people, two of whom Le Tong recognized: one was Mr. Luo, Luo Weisong, and the other was Mrs. Luo, Song Rou. Another middle-aged man, who bore a six or seven-part resemblance to Luo Weisong, was probably Luo Yifan’s father, and the other middle-aged woman was naturally his mother.
"Uncle Luo, Aunt Rou, hello! Hello, uncles and aunts, I’m Yifan’s friend, Le Tong!"
Le Tong didn’t wait for Luo Yifan to introduce her and proactively stepped forward, slightly bowing to the elders and introducing herself.
"Tongtong, you look so pretty today!" Before Mr. and Mrs. Luo could respond, Song Rou pulled Le Tong’s hand, looking her up and down, and couldn’t help but praise her.
"Hey, mom, who really is your biological daughter?!" Luo Yuanyuan protested, following behind Le Tong.
Song Rou glanced sideways at her, "Certainly not you!"
Luo Yuanyuan was hurt and cuddled up to Luo Weisong, acting spoiled, "Dad..."
Luo Weisong patted her face and laughed, "It’s fine, it doesn’t matter if we all find Tongtong pretty; the main thing is that Ah Tao thinks you’re the prettiest, right, Tongtong?"
Everyone in the living room burst into laughter at Luo Weisong’s words.
"Tongtong, I’ve often heard Yifan and Yuanyuan talk about you, but it’s my first time seeing you, come over and chat with your aunt." Mrs. Luo patted the seat beside her, signaling Le Tong to sit over.
Le Tong smiled and agreed, yet felt she was being pushed to the edge, silently complaining, but had to put on a graceful and sweet smile.
Her gown had a long train, so Luo Yifan thoughtfully bent down to help lift her dress, as Luo Weisong squinted and teased him, "Truly a teachable kid!"
Mr. Luo also looked at Luo Yifan with appreciation, nodding in agreement, "Yes, Yifan finally got it!"
Le Tong really didn’t know how to interject in this conversation, and Luo Yifan seemed to understand her awkwardness, glaring at his dad and uncle, "You two are so nagging, if you scare Tongtong away, one of you has to disguise as a girl to be my date."
The brothers, whose ages added up to over a hundred, finally closed their mouths, looking at each other with a knowing smile, and the glance between them had implications Le Tong found impossible to ignore.
The servants served fragrant tea and various dim sum. Fearing she might say something that would touch a nerve, Le Tong took the tea offered by Luo Yifan and sipped it carefully.
Mrs. Luo was easier to get along with than Le Tong had imagined, probably because she had heard a lot about Le Tong from Yuanyuan and Yifan, so she didn’t ask any questions about her background. She only asked about work, whether she was tired or not.
With questions that didn’t touch any boundaries, Le Tong answered honestly. When she spoke about working at Ji Family, Mrs. Luo suddenly asked, "Have you met your Mr. Ji’s son?"
Le Tong shook her head, "No, Mr. Ji has never brought him to the office."
Although Le Tong had seen Ji Baby once downstairs at Ji Mansion, she always felt that it was best not to say much about her boss’s private matters, lest she said too much.
"That sounds like Mr. Ji, I heard he recently took his son back and didn’t let Mr. Ji’s parents see their grandson!"
It seemed that the rumors about the rift between Ji Rui and his father had already spread in high society!
