Chapter 367: Chapter 214 Joke_1

The boatwoman’s vegetarian dishes were mediocre at best, leaving both Half Old Immortal and Little Monk with no appetite after the first meal. Qian Yixiu then had Lady Wei cook for her, taking charge of the three meals a day for herself and the Monks.

The days on the boat were comfortable, although the weather was mostly overcast and rainy.

With nothing to do, Qian Yixiu played Gomoku with Little Monk or teased Monkey Brother and Benben. When Little Monk joined Old Monk in reciting scriptures, she would lean on the windowsill to enjoy the view. She watched the fine rain threads merge into the water and the misty mountains in the drizzle.

The boat they were on was equivalent to a speedboat of her past life, moving faster than the others. On the second day since entering the Green Spring River, as their "speedboat" slowly caught up with a big boat ahead, Monkey Brother suddenly sniffed and leaped onto a small table, squeezing next to the window and pointed excitedly at the ship.

There was someone on that boat that Monkey Brother recognized! Qian Yixiu widened her eyes and looked toward the ship.

As the "speedboat" caught up and passed the boat, she finally saw him. It turns out that the deadbeat dad was on that boat, also looking out of the window at that moment.

What was he doing in Ji’an? Qian Yixiu had never thought he would go home. The war ended six years ago; if he wanted to return, he would have done so already.

Seeing him, Qian Yixiu’s mood sank again.

At mealtime, Qian Yixiu asked Half Old Immortal, seemingly offhandedly, "Master, why do you think people change? They used to be so good, and then, after a few years apart, they’ve become unrecognizable."

The Old Monk put down his chopsticks, clasped his hands together, and chanted, "Amitabha. The world itself is not slick; there is only the true nature. Good intentions lead to smoothness, and thus everything is accomplished and complete, while evil intentions lead to everything being hypocritical and corrupt."

Qian Yixiu rolled her eyes and said, "My learning is limited, I can’t understand unless you speak more plainly."

The Old Monk pretended not to hear and picked up his chopsticks to continue eating his vegetarian meal.

This Old Monk is so annoying. He has no semblance of a high monk when it’s needed. When one hopes for straightforward answers, he goes on spouting profundities.

Seeing Qian Yixiu pouting angrily and not eating, Little Monk laughed and said, "What my master means is that the world only knows slickness, not completeness. Little Benefactor should be true to herself, do as she pleases, and not force anything."

Qian Yixiu was even more confused and said loudly, "The Master clearly stated that there is no slickness in the world. How can the Little Monk say that the Master meant the world is only slickness?"

Both the Old Monk and Little Monk shook their heads, put down their chopsticks, clasped their hands together, and chanted, "Amitabha, well said, well said."

Qian Yixiu was so frustrated that she put down her chopsticks and went back to her cabin to sleep.

On the evening of May 9th, the boat arrived in Wen County, and the group stayed overnight at an inn, resuming their journey early the next morning.

The Old Monk didn’t have much luggage and only rented a horse-drawn carriage. Qian Yixiu had more belongings, renting six carriages. One was filled with gifts from Liang Mansion to Song Mansion, entrusted to Su Sanwu to deliver to the Xizhou Mansion, while the rest headed towards Xishan County.

They reached Xishan County Town by noon, and, anxious to get home, nobody got off for lunch. Only Master Jin took his belongings and got off, renting a donkey cart to hurry home.

Passing through the county town and reaching the foot of Xiding Mountain, Qian Yixiu bid farewell to the Old Monk and Little Monk and continued westward.

When she arrived at Huaxi Village, it was the lull of the late afternoon, with few pedestrians, and even the dogs lazing by the road looked lethargic.

At the north end of the village, Xie Huzi, who sold meat, was dozing off under a small thatched shelter, with a few strips of pork hanging in front of him dry from the sun, dripping with oil.

Startled by the sound of horses’ hooves, Xie Huzi saw Huang Hua on the leading carriage and knew that Qian Yixiu had returned. He stood up and shouted, "Has Yixiu come back?"

Qian Yixiu poked her head out of the carriage window and smiled, "Yes, I’ve brought back quite a few things for Uncle Xie’s family. I’ll have someone deliver them to you later."

Xie Huzi smiled and said, "My, thank you, Yixiu. You even remember us after such a long trip." As he approached Qian Yixiu’s carriage, he said in a low voice, "Heaven sees what people do. That Lady Tang did many wicked things, and just two days ago, she broke her leg. Doctor Lin said her leg bone is shattered, and she’ll be a cripple for life."

"What happened?" Qian Yixiu asked.

Xie Huzi explained, "Lady Tang went crazy and insisted that Jinwa is not your biological son. Everyone knows why she’s saying this; she’s just coveting your family’s wealth. And since Jinxiu Embroidery Workshop has opened in Capital City, she’s jealous and wants to divide your family’s assets..."

Qian Yixiu was startled. Such a well-kept secret, how could it have leaked?
