Chapter 366: Chapter 213 Selfish Desires_1
On the afternoon of April 21st, Prince Consort Pan unexpectedly brought little boy Jiege to see us off. Not only did he give Qian Yixiu a folding fan with a landscape he had painted, but he also expressed that he might visit her hometown in the future to see the beautiful scenery depicted in the embroidery.
Coming to the Capital City and being able to connect with imperial relatives, the national idol, and the number one scholar was a major gain that Qian Yixiu had never dreamed of.
Besides, was there anything cold about pretty boy Pan? Was there anything odd or snobby? He was clearly a mature and warm-hearted man. Rumors can’t be trusted after all.
Qian Yixiu, holding the folding fan worth a thousand taels, had no immunity against the charming Prince Pan. She smiled with her eyes curved, hastily nodding in agreement, and even suggested that the best time to visit would be from mid-May to early July. That was when not only the wasteland in front of her house was the most colorful but also when the golden lotuses bloomed most brilliantly, and it was also when Xijing Mountain was at its most vividly depicted.
The young girl’s bright smile and cheerful tone made Pan Zi’an feel a mix of sour and sweet in his heart. If he hadn’t taken out his resentment towards the Royal Family on his daughter and had been closer to her, would her smile be as warm?
Youthful vigor!
Now that he was old, he saw many things more openly, but what’s done cannot be undone, and what’s lost is lost forever, beyond repair.
Little Jiege was also reluctant to part, mainly because he would miss Monkey Brother and Benben. Thinking that they would leave tomorrow, his eyes were red. After hearing his grandfather’s words, he too clamored to visit Sister Qian’s home to see the scenery.
Pan Zi’an suddenly felt sad and said, "Grandpa dares not take you far away anymore."
Back then, it was the tenth anniversary of the Princess’s passing away, and the Empress Dowager ordered him to practice vegetarianism at Baoguo Temple for a month. He was unwilling, yet couldn’t openly defy the Empress Dowager nor did he want the world to think him heartless.
So he said he had a dream in which he saw the Princess leisurely sipping tea under the western window of the Purple Cloud Pavilion. The Xiding Mountain Daci Temple in the central-western part of the Great Qian Kingdom was one of the most popular temples in the kingdom, and Xiding Mountain was also famous as the origin of the kingdom’s tea culture. To go there to offer incense and practice vegetarianism would better express his endless sorrow for the Princess.
Indeed, he had truly dreamt of Princess Zi Yang sipping tea. Whether it was under the western window, he was a little unclear.
Xiding Mountain was one of the most well-known scenic areas in the Great Qian Kingdom. On the front mountain, a thousand peaks vied for beauty, with deep ravines standing proudly, while behind the mountain lay rolling tea gardens stacked with lush greens. He had visited there in his youth. Chanting scriptures, sipping tea, painting, and admiring the scenery amongst the wafting scents of ink, tea, and sandalwood on Xiding Mountain were activities he would willingly partake in for an extended stay, accompanied by his memories.
The Empress Dowager approved his request, and Yueyue also insisted on going to offer incense and practice vegetarianism for her mother. However, an incident befell Yueyue there.
This was the greatest regret of Pan Zi’an’s life. Had he not let selfish desires guide him and simply offered incense at Baoguo Temple on West Mountain, then Yueyue would not have been harmed.
He felt this was the Princess’s way of punishing him. She took Yueyue away, causing him to live a life full of pain and remorse.
Jiege, seeing that his grandfather would not agree to take him to Sister Qian’s house, started to cry loudly, saying, "Jiege wants to go, Jiege wants to go..."
Pan Zi’an, feeling helpless, said, "Even if Grandpa is willing to take you there, go ask your father if he agrees."
Children are indeed easy to console. Through tears, Jiege said, "Okay, I’ll ask Daddy. If Daddy agrees, Grandpa must take me there."
In the evening, Song Huaijin also made a special trip to say goodbye. Along with a bunch of neighbor kids, they came to see off Monkey Brother and Benben. Especially young Master Wu from Sanyuan Restaurant, who cried. When he arrived, he brought a small jar of "Sanyuan Location" and a jar of Zhuang Yuanhong, sharing farewell drinks with Monkey Brother’s family.
He and Monkey Brother drank in hiding, and he passed out as soon as he finished. Alarmed, Qian Hua hurriedly went to fetch her husband and get his family to come. Fortunately, Young Master Wu was fine after drinking the hangover soup.
Early the next morning, several carriages stopped in the backyard of the Jinxiu Embroidery Workshop. They belonged to the convoy from the Liang Mansion, sent by Liang Fu on orders. They were to take Qian Yixiu and her company to the ship to meet with Master Beikong.
Qian Yixiu got into the carriage with two maids, Lady Wei, Master Jin, Huang Hua, Su Sanwu, a monkey, and a dog. Master Lu was now making a name for himself in the Capital City and would stay here to work indefinitely. Qian Hua planned to stay a while longer to sort things out before taking Second Shopkeeper Xie out. In the future, Qian Hua would take turns coming to the Jinxiu Embroidery Workshop in the Capital City with Cai He, while Second Shopkeeper Xie and Su Dawu would stay on permanently.
Rushed to the Capital City for just over twenty days, and now she had to leave again. If not for Ghost Daddy provoking her, would she have stayed a few more days to play?
Qian Yixiu lifted the curtain to look outside. The carriage made its way through the narrow alleys, bustling streets, beyond the city gate, the Guarding City River, leaving the bustling Capital City behind.
Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure standing in the distance. Under the morning sun, Uncle Liang was waving at them from atop his horse, smiling brilliantly.
Dressed in military garb, Uncle Liang looked extraordinarily valiant, and not even the soldiers’ uniform could hide his domineering presence. This guy might really become a Marshal one day.
The horse’s hooves flew, and in the blink of an eye, Uncle Liang had ridden up beside the carriage. He thought for a moment, then simply smiled and said, "Little girl, everything will be... just fine, definitely."
Feeling a twinge in her nose, Qian Yixiu also said through her tears, "Uncle Liang as well, everything just fine, happy and blessed."
When she called him Uncle, Liang Jinzhao wasn’t angry but just grinned. His skin was no longer as pale as before; the over ten days as a soldier had tanned him to a wheat color, making his teeth appear even whiter and more jade-like.
Waving goodbye, the carriage drove on, with the figure of Uncle Liang becoming smaller and smaller, until he was out of sight.
More than two hours later, they arrived at Nan County Port. A young monk saw the carriages from the Weiguo Duke Mansion approaching and came forward to greet them, pressing his hands together and said, "Amitabha, Master Beikong is already on the ship, please go directly aboard."
Qian Yixiu and her group were led by the monk onto a medium-sized ship where Little Monk was already waiting for them on the deck, excitedly waving to them from afar.
After the servants transferred all the belongings from the carriages to the ship, Liang Fu bid farewell to Qian Yixiu and led the servants from the Liang Mansion off the ship.
Little Monk and a young monk arranged for Qian Yixiu and the others in the second-floor cabins, and since there were few people, even the servants stayed on the second floor. Just as they finished settling their things, the ship set sail.
Qian Yixiu was puzzled, "We haven’t taken on passengers yet, why has the ship set off already?"
Little Monk smiled, "On this ship, there’s only the Poor Monk, Master, Wuming Nephew, and a few martial monks from Guobao Temple. The rest are you folks. Oh, and the boatman as well."
"Just a few people, the boatman must be running at a loss," Qian Yixiu commented.
Little Monk replied, "Not at all. Master said someone insisted that we take this boat, so we just did. It’s foolish not to enjoy the blessings that come your way."
