Chapter 121: The Prince is Just Jealous

Chapter 121: Chapter 121: The Prince is Just Jealous

Liao Ran, despite having an injured arm, still spoke defiantly. He glared hatefully at Qi Yu and said, "This matter is completely concocted by the Princess Consort of Prince Qi!"

Qi Yu knew he had a vile heart and that, unless he was nailed down, he would never tell the truth.

She was very tired at the moment, otherwise, she definitely would have argued with him.

Facing the abbot’s frightened gaze, she yawned nonchalantly and said, "Don’t worry, they’ll wake up soon."

Liao Ran tried to get up but was kicked down once more by Shiqi, which made him kneel even more firmly.

Qi Yu caught a glimpse of this out of the corner of her eye but said nothing.

If it wasn’t for her lack of strength right now, she would have liked to kick him as well.

A few minutes later, Liao Fan and Kong Ran woke up, both looking somewhat confused. Seeing a crowd gathered outside the door, they were a bit puzzled.

Kong Ran, seeing blood on Liao Ran, felt scared and got out of bed, running to Qi Yu’s side.

He was now utterly convinced that Qi Yu was a fairy-like sister, so his first instinct in danger was to run behind her for protection.

Qi Yu touched his bald head softly and said in a gentle voice, "It’s okay, the bad guy has been caught."

Kong Ran poked his head from behind her and, looking at the subdued Liao Ran, said angrily, "Big senior brother is a bad person!"

His words left everyone else baffled, only Qi Yu knew what he was talking about.

She let the little monk hold her hand and said, "Now you can talk about what you saw."

Kong Ran nodded at her, feeling less afraid with someone backing him up.

He looked at the abbot and said, "Master, it was big senior brother who threw me into the mountains."

"What?" Not just the abbot, but everyone else was shocked.

Only Liao Fan still sat on the meditation cushion inside the room, eyes closed and reciting scriptures, apparently deep in thought.

Qi Yu glanced at him and felt that he probably knew all along but just couldn’t bring himself to believe it.

Kong Ran repeated to everyone what he had told Qi Yu earlier that day. By the end, he clenched his fists angrily and threw a punch in Liao Ran’s direction.

It was not much of a hit, but it was enough to show his real anger.

Qi Yu thought he was like a little kitten and nearly couldn’t help laughing.

The abbot was also extremely angry. He had managed Yunhe Temple for many years and this was the first time such an incident had occurred.

Right then, he ordered for Liao Ran to be locked up, saying with a touch of weariness, "Tomorrow, we’ll send him to the government for a judicial decision."

Yunhe Temple was a state temple, and for such an incident, relying on the temple’s rules alone was insufficient. Liao Ran had to be handed over to the government.

Qi Yu felt no sympathy for Liao Ran’s fate, but there was something she still needed to find out from him.

After he was locked up, she had Shiqi guard him to see if anyone would come to rescue him.

But it seemed that whoever might have been helping Liao Ran had also treated him as an expendable piece and did not show up again.

The next morning, Qi Yu and Li Mingjue went down the mountain, bringing Liao Fan and Kong Ran with them.

The abbot, knowing that Liao Fan was silently blaming himself, sighed and pleaded with Qi Yu, "I hope the Princess can counsel him."

Qi Yu nodded, agreeing to do so.

If she were in his place, her mood would certainly not be faring any better.

It was best to let Liao Fan leave the monastery to spend some time at the Prince Residence, away from the place of heartbreak, and perhaps he could forget this incident sooner.

As for Kong Ran, he had stubbornly clung to the carriage, shamelessly insisting on going with Qi Yu.

Qi Yu had no choice but to take him along as well.

In the carriage, Kong Ran tugged at Qi Yu’s sleeve and asked in a low voice, "Sister, does the Prince not like me?"

He remembered how the Prince seemed angry when he had made a fuss about riding in the same carriage as Qi Yu just now.

Qi Yu was taken aback for a moment, then smiled helplessly and said, "He doesn’t dislike you, the Prince is just... jealous."

She felt a blush creep up her face as she said this in front of the child.

But she consoled herself, thinking that the one who should be more embarrassed was clearly Li Mingjue—he was a Prince quarreling with a child, after all.

Kong Ran, young and not quite understanding, stared with his bright, sparkling eyes and asked curiously, "Why would the Prince be jealous?"

After that, he added in a very quiet voice, "Vinegar doesn’t even taste good!"

Qi Yu tapped his little bald head, pretending to be angry as she said, "Little kids shouldn’t ask so many questions!"

Kong Ran hugged his head and dodged to the side.

He decided that before going to the Prince Residence, he would no longer pay attention to the fairy sister.

Qi Yu tossed him a few pieces of candy and let him go play by himself.

Her thoughts were still on the mysterious person who came and went without a trace. In the entire temple, aside from her and Liao Ran, no one had seen that person.

That morning, she had even gone to see Liao Ran to try to get some information from him.

But no matter how she asked, Liao Ran insisted he had not seen any mysterious person.

Qi Yu knew that he would not tell her the truth, so she did not press further.

Since the mysterious person had already set his sights on her, then surely, once she returned to the Prince Residence, he would appear again.

At Prince An Residence, Li Ming’an and Qi Wei had waited for a day and a night without any news.

Both knew in their hearts that the assassination must have mostly likely failed.

Li Ming’an paced back and forth in the study, his expression tense with impatience, "So many people, and they can’t kill two individuals, a bunch of incompetents!"

Qi Wei’s expression wasn’t great either.

Though the matter had not yet been traced back to Li Ming’an, the Emperor had already begun to suspect him.

In the past few days, at the court, no matter what he said, it was as if no one would listen.

Qi Wei wished to protect Li Ming’an, but he also had no better plan.

The political climate in the capital city had already shifted imperceptibly in favor of the Qi Prince—everyone was turning with the wind.

Seeing that Qi Wei wasn’t speaking, Li Ming’an pointed at him and said, "You better think of a way to get me out of this quickly!"

Qi Wei was helpless, only managing to stammer a few lies to placate him for the moment.

It was not until nightfall that he finally left Prince An Residence.

Back at the Prime Minister Residence, Qi Anran noticed his grave expression and hurriedly asked, "Father, what’s wrong? Has there been another incident at Prince An’s side?"

Ever since Li Ming’an’s predicament, she had fallen from the envied, talented woman of the capital city to becoming a laughingstock.

Originally, in a month’s time, it was supposed to be the day she would marry into Prince An Residence.

But now, with Prince An confined in his residence, if he could not clear his name soon, how could she become the Princess?

Seeing his daughter Qi Anran, Qi Wei usually felt comforted.

Compared to Qi Yu, his willful daughter, Qi Anran was much better.

He had been thinking that after supporting Li Ming’an to the throne, Qi Anran would naturally become Empress. By then, his own position would rise another level.

But now, all his efforts had been in vain.

He snorted coldly, "It’s all because of you and your thoughtless mother, insistently getting involved with that imbecile!"

Qi Anran’s face stiffened, and she didn’t know how to respond for a moment.

Seeing Qi Anran being scolded made Wang’s heart ache too, but facing Qi Wei, she could only swallow her anger and said, "My lord, it’s all that fool’s fault, why blame Anran?"

Just the thought of the Gold he had been hiding for years now lost made Qi Wei look at Wang with displeasure.

He had been preoccupied with Li Ming’an for too long these past days and didn’t have the energy to scold them; he glanced at the mother and daughter coldly and left with a flick of his sleeve.

With tears in her eyes, Qi Anran held onto Wang’s hand, "Mother, what should we do?"

Wang stared in the direction Qi Wei had left, spat in disdain, then turned to her daughter with a sinister flash in her eyes, "What’s there to be afraid of? I refuse to believe we can’t deal with that fool!"
