Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Is Everything the Princess Said True?

Guided by the signal flare, Li Mingjue quickly found Qi Yu and Kong Ran.

A tall and a short figure were standing in front of an ancient tree, their eyes shining with light at the sight of the person coming to rescue them.

As she watched him approaching, Qi Yu suddenly felt a surge of grievance within her heart.

She didn’t know what bad karma she had accrued, dragging a little monk through the deep forest for a whole day.

Moreover, she had to be constantly on guard against the appearance of that mysterious person.

Li Mingjue walked up to her, extended his hand, and comforted her, "Don’t be afraid, I’m here."

Qi Yu sniffled, handed over the little monk to Liao Fan, and without hesitation, took Li Mingjue’s hand.

Holding his warm palm, her heart finally settled back in place, steady and secure.

The group walked back the way they came for nearly an hour before returning to the temple.

Seeing that they had returned safely, the worried look on the abbot’s face finally dissipated, and due to his advanced age and lack of strength, he returned to his room with the support of his disciples.

Liao Fan, carrying Kong Ran, also returned to his room; after being scared the whole day, the little monk had long since fallen asleep on his back.

He changed Kong Ran into clean clothes and laid him on the bed.

Qi Yu was also exhausted, but she still had things to do.

Her gaze swept over the faces of the monks, and she asked, "Who is Liao Ran?"

One couldn’t really blame her; in her eyes, these monks all looked the same, except for someone exceptional like Liao Fan, whom she could barely recognize.

Luckily, the monks didn’t think too much of it, and upon hearing her question, they looked around.

Indeed, Liao Ran’s presence was not found among the crowd.

At that moment, having settled Kong Ran, Liao Fan also came out and on behalf of the others, responded, "Princess, Brother Liao Ran is not here."

Qi Yu’s eyebrows lifted slightly; perhaps that man was hiding because he had a guilty conscience.

Someone who knew the inside story spoke up, "This afternoon, Brother Liao Ran said he was shocked and rested in his room."

Qi Yu didn’t alarm anyone with her reaction and simply nodded, letting the matter pass.

After a day’s hustle, everyone was bone-weary; any issues could wait until the little monk Kong Ran woke up the next day.

She waved her hand, "Alright, no need to keep watch here, go and rest."

Upon hearing this, the monks all returned to their rooms.

Liao Fan, still worried, stayed in Kong Ran’s room.

Qi Yu had Shiqi quietly hide and keep an eye on everything happening around, instructing him to report to her if he noticed anything unusual.

Although Shiqi didn’t fully understand her intentions, he would still follow the Princess’s orders.

Back in her room, Qi Yu quickly washed up and changed clothes, then, with her hair down, she sat on the bed, sleepy and drowsy.

Seeing her like this, Li Mingjue felt both amused and heartbroken, asking, "Why don’t you lie down?"

Qi Yu didn’t even open her eyes, pointed outside the door, and lazily said, "Just wait, Shiqi will definitely come over soon."

She didn’t believe that Liao Ran wouldn’t take any action tonight.

Li Mingjue had wanted to ask her earlier, "Is something going to happen tonight?"

Qi Yu nodded and recounted all that had happened that day.

Upon hearing this, Li Mingjue’s expression turned grave instantly, and he said coldly, "This man deserves to die!"

If not for his selfish desires, Qi Yu wouldn’t have been trapped in the forest, facing so many dangers alone.

Qi Yu had nothing to say to his biased concern, she tugged at the corner of her mouth, and persuaded, "It’s alright. Haven’t I already returned? Calm down first, he’s not worth your anger."

Li Mingjue’s thin lips pressed together, wishing he could right now have Shiqi capture Liao Ran and give him a beating.

But after hearing her words, his expression softened a bit.

Sure enough, not long after, Shiqi really knocked on the door.

Qi Yu stood up and said to Li Mingjue, "In a moment, you’ll have a perfect excuse to beat him up."

The three of them tread lightly, hurrying to Kong Ran’s room with the utmost speed; the door was already ajar.

Qi Yu peered through the crack first, a wave of fragrant sedative scent assaulting her senses.

She frowned and turned back to Li Mingjue and Shiqi, saying, "Cover your noses and mouths; he’s used sedatives."

Having said that, she kicked the door open.

Liao Ran was about to lay his hands on Kong Ran, who was on the bed when he heard a noise from behind and immediately turned around.

"You... How are you here!" he blurted out in shock, forgetting to even pretend otherwise.

Qi Yu smiled lightly, looking at him calmly, "We’re here to catch you, of course."

Panicked inside, Liao Ran looked at the people outside the door, remembered he had used sedatives, and felt a surge of confidence, scoffing, "What will you catch me with?"

Seeing him play tough even when facing death, Qi Yu laughed, "Has no one ever told you that this kind of sedative uses human blood as a catalyst, and that when the incense is burnt out, you will die?"

Of course, Liao Ran didn’t believe it. The person who provided him with the sedative hadn’t mentioned it, and where in the world would there be sedatives that used human blood as a catalyst? She was probably just trying to scare him.

"Nonsense! Do you think I would believe that?"

Qi Yu was, in fact, fabricating lies on the spot, all to buy time. Hearing his reply, she remained unaffected, saying indifferently, "Believe it or not."

Her overly calm demeanor did indeed make Liao Ran doubt, then seeing that she wasn’t affected by the sedative nor was her capacity to speak normally impacted, he began to partly believe in her words.

He rushed forward and blew out the partially burned sedative incense stick.

Qi Yu found this reaction rather amusing, yet she maintained her detached composure.

The effectiveness of these sedatives only came into play in a sealed environment, and by that time, the effects had already been dispersed by the wind.

Liao Ran tore off the black gauze he used to shield himself from the sedative and fiercely said to her, "Since you’ve discovered it, I’ll just have to kill you too!"

He had practiced martial arts since he was a child and had received a Soft Sword from a mysterious person that could slice through iron as if it were mud. He intended to kill Liao Fan and Kong Ran that night.

Having been caught by Qi Yu, he thought of eliminating her first.

But before his sword could even touch Qi Yu, Li Mingjue blocked it with a finger and broke it in two.

Liao Ran’s pupils shook, his expression becoming frantic. He abandoned the sword and exchanged several moves with Li Mingjue barehanded.

Qi Yu consciously stepped aside, as she didn’t practice martial arts herself and would only hinder Li Mingjue’s performance by standing there.

The noise of the fight quickly drew others, with the abbot being led over by Shiqi.

After bringing the abbot over and seeing Liao Ran had already moved to attack, Shiqi immediately drew his sword, exchanged a few blows with him, then used the hilt to injure his right arm, forcing him to kneel on the ground.

If it weren’t for the fact that Liao Ran was not yet allowed to die, Shiqi would have never shown mercy.

Witnessing this bloody scene left the monks speechless for a moment, each of them mumbling "Amitabha Buddha."

Seeing this, the abbot asked without minding the presence of bloodshed in the temple, "May I ask Princess, what wrong has my disciple done to be harmed like this?"

Qi Yu shifted slightly, allowing a clear view of the scene inside the room, and briefly recounted what had happened.

The abbot looked shocked, unable to believe that Liao Ran was capable of such murderous acts.

He looked at Liao Ran and asked, "Is everything the Princess said true?"
