Suddenly, Gu Fan struggled an arm free, pulling out his shock stick. He would never use such a drastic measure if he wasn’t desperate.

As soon as the shock stick touched the mermaids, he pressed the switch. Instantly the electrical current flowed through their bodies, causing every one of them, human or mermaid, to convulse uncontrollably. Particularly as they still had their snorkels in their mouths, causing them to make choking noises.

Fortunately, even though their grip on the snorkels loosened, the snorkels were still in their mouths. But they had lost their hold on the mermaids.

Having encountered the painful shock of electricity, the mermaids became fearful and swiftly swam away, allowing Gu Fan and his friends to temporarily escape the danger.

Just as Lin Xi was about to swim over to them, she felt something approaching from the side. Before she had a chance to see what it was, another mermaid rammed into her from the side, its speed and momentum were incredible.

Caught off guard, Lin Xi was carried away by the mermaid, she was pushed backward until she slammed into the statue. The impact, even underwater, was staggering.

Seeing that Lin Xi was alright, Gu Fan relaxed. Looking back, he found the scene was pure chaos. Everyone was running for their lives, but the way to the surface was blocked. Their only option was to weave in and out among the statues, hoping to avoid the mermaids for a while.

The boss was most heroic. After the mermaids had learned their lesson with a few of their numbers injured or dead, they changed strategy. A dozen or so mermaids started to circle him, faster and faster, creating stronger and stronger currents.

At this moment, Hai led a few people as they fled towards this area and ran into Gu Fan and the rest of the group. After exchanging glances, they immediately understood each other it seemed everyone was about to share the same fate.

Gu Fan spotted a partially closed door within a carved structure, it looked as though it could be fully opened to provide an escape route.

Hai also noticed the door and glanced at Gu Fan, conveying the fact that hiding was not a long-term solution and sooner or later, they would be found. Gu Fan responded by gesturing for everyone to follow.

With their situation so desperate, they decided to take a gamble. Everyone followed Gu Fan’s lead and began to move towards the partially open door. However, before they could reach it, they were discovered by two mermaids who, excited by their discovery, flicked their tails and swam towards them swiftly.

"Oh my god, can’t believe we got discovered so quickly." Everyone was trying to swim faster. But movement underwater was inherently difficult, they could do nothing but watch as the mermaids closed in on them. Waves of fear and despair washed over them.
