Chapter 688: Chapter 688: The Person Who Wants to Run Away

At this very moment on the sea, everyone was waiting anxiously. Gu Ling kept sensing danger but didn’t know how to convey this information to Gu Fan.

Su Hui had already picked up the microphone and shouted several times, but there was no response. Even knowing the situation was not promising, she didn’t give up and continued to call out.

Suddenly, someone pointed at the sea and screamed, his look of terror resonating with everyone else’s nerves.

A pirate just surfaced was swimming desperately towards the boat, towards hope. Blood streamed from his body, tinting the surrounding sea red. Suddenly, something tightened around his ankle and he was pulled beneath the surface. With his last strength, he cried out in despair. His blood hadn’t yet dissolved into the water; everyone was watching, their hairs standing on ends.

"What on earth happened?" Just as everyone was massively frightened, a beautiful face emerged, smiling at the crowd, before flicking her tongue over her lips and beckoning with her finger.

Who is this woman? Where did she come from? Everyone was puzzled. Perhaps she was a Wandering Sea Ghost.

Not until this woman dived back into the water did she reveal her fish tail, causing everyone to become stunned.

Su Hui was dumbstruck: "No, this can’t be happening... I didn’t see wrong, did I? It’s a mermaid."

"Sister Su, if you saw wrong, it means I also saw wrong. But how could the two of us see wrong at the same time?" Gu Ling was also stunned for a while and quickly regained her senses, "The danger I sensed might have come from these mermaids."

"Could it be..." Su Hui felt a misgiving. Gu Ling, with her better ability to sense crises, suddenly said, "Turn around quickly, get us out of here now!"

"What?" Su Hui didn’t understand what she meant; why was Gu Ling in such a hurry?

Luckily, both Su Hui and Gu Fan had the foresight to ensure that the person steering the boat was one of them. He could understand Gu Ling’s words and immediately started the engine.

Just then, another boat nearby started shaking violently as if something huge was rocking it from beneath the water.

There were screams from that ship. The shaking was so violent several men fell overboard. They struggled for a while, then a few mermaids emerged from the water and dragged them under.

Witnessing this, Su Hui and Gu Ling broke out in cold sweat. If Gu Ling hadn’t sensed the danger earlier, the same could have happened on their boat.

However, the crisis was far from over. One after another, boats were overthrown. The mermaids didn’t give up on any target.

Gu Ling frowned and said, "Sister Su, get your gun ready. Follow my instructions."

"Okay!" Su Hui raised her gun, aimed at the sea, and got ready.

Gu Ling ran from one side of the boat to the other and then pointed in a direction: "Sister Su, shoot over there."

Su Hui didn’t hesitate, she fired, her bullets hitting the water and raising small splashes.

"Steer to the right, and quickly!" Whatever Gu Ling said, the crew member would steer in that direction immediately.

Gu Ling was constantly monitoring, constantly running around. She was more nervous than anyone else now, as everyone was depending on her.

"No, don’t go in that direction! Go full speed ahead! Sister Su, go fire off a few shots from the stern!" Thus, under Gu Ling’s command, Su Hui fired the gun, the crew steered the ship, thwarting the mermaids’ approach, avoiding the impending encirclement. Eventually, theirs was the only boat that could safely return home.

But Gu Ling and Su Hui didn’t want to leave as then Gu Fan and the others would be left without aid.

Meanwhile, on the cargo ship, everyone heard the enchanting singing. But after what they had gone through, Du Jun, Leng Le, and the others weren’t in the mood to appreciate it. Now they heard shouting and gunfire, indicating a grim situation.

Qian Ying and Ning Qi were worried. Though they believed in Qian Feng’s capabilities, they couldn’t help but fear for the worst. If Qian Feng ran into trouble and failed to get back, Qian Ying and Ning Qi, weak and vulnerable as they were, might fall prey to others.

Just then, three figures descended from above: one was Qian Feng, the other was an unconscious Qian Xue, and the third was a ruthless mermaid, biting hard onto Qian Feng’s shoulder.

"What is..." Everyone was shocked and taken aback. This was the first time they had ever seen a mermaid, a creature they thought existed only in fantasy. But this creature was different from the rumors: aside from being beautiful, it was also extremely ferocious.

The mermaid didn’t expect to be dragged onto the cargo ship. Panicked, she attempted to escape, but being on dry land, her movements were slow. She flopped around a few times, attempting desperately to escape towards the ocean.

"Catch her!" The crowd wouldn’t let her go. A fishing net was thrown over, capturing the mermaid.

Ning Qi urgently asked, "Big Sister, what happened to you guys?"

"It’s a long story, but to sum it up, it has been incredibly dangerous." Qian Feng spoke while using magic to heal her wounds. However, she still felt pain which caused her brows to furrow intensely.

Gu Ling and Su Hui also rushed back to the ship, anxiously asking about the situation. In response, Qian Feng could only shake her head. From her pessimistic look, it was clear that the other people were in a dire situation.

"It can’t be; even the boss..." Leng Le couldn’t believe it; she couldn’t accept it. It wasn’t that she was loyal to the boss, but if they lost this crucial support, what would they do in the future?

Gu Ling also looked disbelief, "That’s not possible, my brother will be fine. He made it back safely last time, he will definitely return safely this time, too."

Seeing Gu Ling’s emotional state, Su Hui tried to console her "Don’t worry, Xiaoling. I also believe your brother will be okay. And not just your brother, but also Lin Xi, Lu Yi, Jie, Xu Haowen."

Upon hearing these words, everyone’s hearts were heavy. They all hoped that another miracle would occur. But would miracles repeatedly happen?

Suddenly, Qian Feng burst into rage, issued a bolt of lightning at a boat, and yelled, "I see some people are getting smart and trying to escape in chaos. Next time, I will not spare such people!"

On one of the pirate ships, Qiao Ya and his crew had grim faces; they had been the ones trying to escape in the chaos. They hadn’t expected to have been discovered.

At this point, Qiao Ya noticed that the other two pirate ships were being watched strictly too since, as per Qian Feng’s rule, the three pirate ships formed a team. If one ship deserted, the other two would suffer grave punishment.

Dong Ni had never felt so aggrieved, "Damn it, we were so close to escaping this place. Why did we have to follow these people into this dangerous adventure?"
