Chapter 685 - What is it?
Chapter 685: Chapter 685 - What is it?
Now, underwater, nobody could use language to communicate, with only hand gestures serving as their mode of expression. Lu Yi gestured towards the surface, implying it’s best to return.
Gu Fan also felt it would be prudent to come back, especially after encountering so many things and hearing the inexplicable singing, which was sending chills down everyone’s spine.
Just when Gu Fan was about to make up his mind, he saw something flash behind Lu Yi, and was struck by a sudden, indefinable fear.
Gu Fan immediately swam over to get a closer look, his eyes wide with panic. Everyone turned alert upon noticing Gu Fan staring in a specific direction.
At this moment, the boss and Qian Feng, along with others, were meandering through the immense, disparate engravings, straining to find a possible entrance. They had not noticed anything unusual.
Suddenly the boss sensed something amiss, and glanced back. Seeing that Gu Fan and the others were not with them, he immediately felt displeased, suspecting Gu Fan had left them to bear the brunt of any lurking dangers.
But when Gu Fan began to make some strange movements, the boss was perplexed, struggling to understand what he intended to convey.
"Wait a minute, what is Gu Fan trying to signal—?" The boss furrowed his brows, and suddenly detected something rapidly slithering by. He quickly turned his gaze to it, but found nothing.
Within these irregular carvings, it was all too easy for something to remain hidden. The boss, Qian Feng, and the rest found themselves at a clear disadvantage with their positions.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan, Lin Xi and the others had not entered. They were on the outside and could clearly see something quickly swimming around, using these enormous carvings to conceal its movements. They were circling the boss and Qian Feng’s group, seemingly looking for an opportunity.
"What in the world is this?" Gu Fan could see some shapes resembling fish tails, which ruled out the possibility of giant squid, sea snakes, creatures like the Wandering Sea Ghosts. However, the inability to identify the creature precisely was what terrified him more.
Gu Fan urgently gestured for everyone to come back, but his signs were lost due to the distance separating them.
The boss, Hai, Qian Feng, Qian Xue sensed that something might be amiss and immediately decided to bolt. Being unable to issue instructions underwater and scattered too far from each other, all they could do was retreat while signing back.
Just then, more and more people began noticing the strange occurrences around them: it seemed like something was swimming by their sides, inciting fear in everyone.
Seeing more and more such traces, Gu Fan felt a sense of unease creep into him. These were many, and they were under the sea. How could they possibly deal with this?
"Damn it, what are those things?" Everyone was wondering. Suddenly, Lin Xi sensed something, turned back, prompting everyone else to do the same. And they were all left dumbfounded .
In front of them were creatures that were half human, half fish. Their upper bodies were human, but their lower halves were fish tails. Long hair flowing in the water, beautiful eyes, and lovely faces, all smiling at Gu Fan and the others.
This sight reminded them of the legendary mermaids. They could hardly believe that such creatures truly existed.
Not only did Gu Fan and the others spot one mermaid, but more appeared, swimming out from behind the carvings, their curious eyes surveying these strange people.
Now the boss, Qian Feng, and the others were left dumbfounded. This was their first encounter with mermaids and from such a close distance too.
Everyone was initially cautious. But seeing how attractive the mermaids were, and their curious demeanour, and how they seemed too fearful to approach anyone, it seemed like they too were wary of what harm these peculiar humans might bring.
Gradually, the mermaids began trying to interact, some braver ones even edging closer while circling around certain individuals.
Everyone felt that these mermaids might not mean any harm, and attempted to wave. The mermaids seemed to understand the gesture and waved back. Some even laughed, their beauty enhancing with the laughter.
On Gu Fan, Lin Xi and others’ side, a mermaid had swum over, circling them thrice but appeared too timid to come any closer.
Lu Yi thought the mermaids seemed friendly and mimicked their wave.
A while later, everyone started interacting with the mermaids. Some people started high-fiving, some held hands with the mermaids, spinning around in circles. One was even encircled by three mermaids; a sight that warmed his heart.
Watching the mermaids and the others getting more comfortable, Gu Fan felt they might not bear any ill intentions after all. But he couldn’t help but feel a knot in his chest. Could this really be a threatless surprise for once?
Just then, Lu Yi, who had been getting along well with the mermaids, was pulled away by one. The mermaids swam effortlessly swift, and before long, Lu Yi was left straggling behind.
But Gu Fan missed this incident as he was observing the boss and their situation.
After all the thinking, Gu Fan was still anxious. He wanted everyone to leave first and discuss later. When he turned back, he realised there were only four of them left — Lu Yi had been led far away by the mermaid.
"Damn it, Lu Yi, where are you heading to? Did the mermaid invite you to her house?" Gu Fan suddenly shivered. He had a thought. Since these were living beings, they had to feed, right? What did mermaids eat anyway? Surely, they couldn’t be sustaining themselves purely on seaweed?
Upon realising something, Gu Fan immediately swam towards Lu Yi in a state of considerable anxiety.
Seeing this, Lin Xi, Xu Haowen, Jie quickly followed suit. They didn’t know what was bothering Gu Fan and hoped nothing terrible was about to happen.
Meanwhile, Lu Yi and the mermaid were swimming around, having a great time. This was the first time Lu Yi was engaging so closely with a beautiful woman. Had to be said, this mermaid’s attractiveness was definitely at par with Lin Xi.
"Such a shame. She is, after all, a mermaid and different from me. I can’t marry her." As Lu Yi was sighing with regret, his thoughts turned to Gu Fan. He glanced back and noticed that he had swum a considerable distance without realising it.
Lu Yi saw Gu Fan and the others swimming desperately towards him. He couldn’t understand why they were so frantic.
"Oh, God, no!" Gu Fan, Lin Xi, Xu Haofen, Jie, were all terrified because they witnessed their worst nightmare...
The moment Lu Yi shifted his gaze, his companion mermaid’s formerly friendly face darkened and her eyes held a chilling hint. Her sharp teeth finally came to the fore.
