Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 684: Diving Together
Chapter 684: Chapter 684: Diving Together
Despite Gu Ling’s well-reasoned pleas, Gu Fan bluntly refused without arguing, which greatly upset Gu Ling, causing her to sulk in her room.
Shortly, the diving equipment from Qian Feng and the big boss arrived, totalling seventy pieces – more than enough for everyone.
To play it safe, fifty sets of equipment were used for the first dive, meaning fifty people would be going down.
On Qian Feng’s side, it was Qian Feng, Qian Xue, and thirty-eight pirates.
For the big boss’ group, it naturally included the big boss himself, Ah Hai, and four subordinates.
The remaining five were, Gu Fan, Lin Xi, Xu Haowen, Lu Yi, and Jie.
Once the team was decided, they began putting on the scuba gear and checking the air cylinders, albeit clumsily. Their amateur movements worried Su Hui: "Are you sure you don’t want me to come along, Gu Fan? I am the best diver among us."
Gu Fan laughed softly, "That’s precisely why - if something dangerous happens, we’re all relying on you to save us."
Lin Xi also interjected, "Don’t worry, everyone. I’m also going this time. I’ll ensure everyone’s safety."
Looking at the group, which included the big boss, Qian Feng, Qian Xue, and Lin Xi, there was no logical reason they would fail.
Once everyone was fully equipped, fifty people took off on five pirate boats, heading towards the island. However, due to the fog, which obscured their vision, they had to rely on the sound of their engines to gauge the distance between the boats.
Upon noting everyone’s anxiety, Gu Fan suggested, "Let’s check our gear once more to ensure there aren’t any issues."
"Don’t worry. I’ve checked everything three times," Xu Haowen responded in an excited yet worried tone, "If we make a discovery this time, I’ll definitely impress Professor Luo with my report and publish a world-shaking paper."
"I hope so!" Gu Fan responded apprehensively, rubbing his hands together nervously.
Lin Xi shot him a glance and squeezed his hand in reassurance, communicating her steadfast support through her eyes.
Su Hui was also on one of the pirate boats, not to dive but to be alert and ready to spring into action if needed. She reminded everyone to be cautious.
Just as Gu Fan was about to say something, Gu Ling jumped out of the cabin, alarming him, "Xiaoling, why aren’t you staying on the large cargo ship? Why are you on a small boat?"
Gu Ling was displeased, "Brother, it’s one thing for you to not let me dive, but stopping me from being here is crossing the line. My abilities are distance-limited. If you leave me on the cargo ship, I can’t sense danger in time."
Just as Gu Fan was about to object, Su Hui cut him off, "Okay, Gu Fan, I know you’re being a responsible brother, but don’t treat your sister like a child. Plus, I’m here to guard Gu Ling. I can assure you that she’ll be safe."
With no further objections, Gu Fan instructed everyone to put on their remaining scuba gear, ready to dive.
As they neared the island, all five ships came to a stop and shot up flares one by one, signaling that each had reached its designated position and was ready to move.
Once all five flares were in the air, Gu Fan signaled to the group, and he was the first to dive into the water, quickly followed by Lin Xi, Lu Yi, Jie, and Xu Haowen.
The splash of bodies entering the water indicated that all five ships had begun their operations simultaneously.
"Let’s hope everything goes smoothly..." Gu Ling had barely finished speaking when an alluring, melodious song wafted in from an unknown source. It was so enchanting and calming that they felt an irresistible urge to find the origin of the song.
However, a pirate at the helm was visibly disturbed and seemed to caution Su Hui and Gu Ling about the song, suggesting they should leave as soon as possible.
Just then, the radio buzzed. Su Hui’s brows furrowed in worry, thinking there was an emergency. She immediately picked up the radio to ask, "What happened?"
It was Xiaohu’s voice on the other end, "Sister Su, you need to tell Gu Fan and the others not to dive. There’s an issue..."
Upon hearing these words, Su Hui and Gu Ling felt a chill. "What are you talking about? Gu Fan and the others have already dived. What did you find on your end?" Su Hui urged.
Xiaohu explained, "There’s a rumor about the Triangle Sea Area. If you hear an enchanting song that captivates your soul, you should escape immediately. It could be a siren’s song, luring you in and then devouring you completely."
"Why didn’t you mention this before?" Su Hui stared at the tranquil sea surface, wondering how she could possibly get Gu Fan and the others back.
Xiaohu was just as anxious. It was merely a rumor among the pirates of the Triangle Sea. None had actually experienced it, so Xiaohu had forgotten about it until he noticed something odd about the song.
Left with no choice, Su Hui put all her hopes on the underwater earphones. She knew Gu Fan, Lin Xi, and Xu Haowen were wearing them, which meant she could transmit her voice to them from the surface using her equipment.
"Hello, hello, can you hear me, Gu Fan?" Su Hui shouted into the microphone three times, then waited. Soon, she heard a knocking sound, which she inferred was Gu Fan tapping his earphone to signal that he heard her.
She then quickly relayed Xiaohu’s warning to Gu Fan, advising him to return to the surface until they understood the song’s origin.
Gu Fan heard her, as did Lin Xi, Xu Haowen, Lu Yi, and Jie. They all stopped moving, clearly pondering whether it was sensible to retreat because of a rumor.
Meanwhile, the big boss, Qian Feng, and the others continued to dive. Due to their comparatively poor diving skills, their descent was slow but steady.
Some who were faster had already descended ten meters. Since they were under the water, there was no fog obstructing their view, allowing them a clear sight of some colossal structures beneath the island. They could see a gigantic statue with a head larger than a human’s, inciting exclamations of amazement.
Aside from the statue, there were also massive stone carvings resembling buildings. From a distance, they looked like actual buildings rather than carvings. The multitude of carvings, with their varying heights and scattered distribution, resembled a grand city. From the carvings of doors and windows, it looked as though this city was inhabited by three-meter-tall giants.
However, as the divers went deeper, the water pressure increased. Ten meters was already a substantial burden, and many divers were at their limits. They began searching for an entrance within this ten-meter range.
