Chapter 472: Chapter 472: Need to Seek Help from Someone

Upstairs, Gu Ling doggedly engaged Su Hui until she began talking about her past, including how she came to move into the old house.

Listening to Su Hui, Gu Ling found herself repeatedly taken aback, unable to believe the coincidences in Su Hui’s story, no wonder Liu Yao was shocked after hearing it.

Sorting through the details, Liu Yao had lived in the old house with Gu Fan, and Gu Ling during their childhood. The two families had a good relationship, even arranging a childhood betrothal between Liu Yao and Gu Fan. Liu Yao later moved away, not keeping in touch with the others, leaving the childhood betrothal to lapse. This should have been a simple matter, but as they all grew up, events took dramatic turns.

Liu Yao interfered with the relationship between Yuan Cheng and Su Hui, forcing Su Hui to move out of Yuan Cheng’s place. By a twist of fate, Su Hui ended up living with Gu Fan.

This was the first cruel joke played by fate. If Liu Yao had not moved out, Su Hui would not have moved in. Instead of Liu Yao and Gu Fan living under the same roof, it became Su Hui and Gu Fan sharing a household.

Next came a romantic relationship between Gu Fan and Leng Le, Liu Yao’s good friend. One could say this was a grand jest by the heavens.

Furthermore, due to Su Hui and Gu Fan’s investigation, Liu Yao was forced to flee abroad, where she met Gu Ling. Needless to say, this encounter was another twist of fate.

After thinking for quite some time, Gu Ling was finally able to sort out the connections between everyone. The complexity was surprising and she hadn’t expected that her brother, Gu Fan, had been involved in such romantic entanglements.

But what Su Hui was most concerned about was Gu Fan’s true intentions and why he invited Liu Yao in the first place. What favor did he need from Liu Yao? Was it really just about locating Leng Le?

"Could it be that you, Gu Fan, plan on using..." Su Hui seemed to guess what Gu Fan was planning, her face draining of color.

Upon seeing Su Hui’s reaction, Gu Fan knew something was wrong and instantly asked, "What’s wrong, Sister Su? Weren’t you filled with indignant anger, wanting to go downstairs to beat up that couple? And Liu Yao is actually quite a nice person. Besides, all this happened so long ago. Don’t forget who you are now."

Hearing Gu Fan’s words, Su Hui gave a bitter smile: "I know, if I was going to hit them, I would have done it already. You don’t need to worry about me, kid."

Suddenly, Liu Yao’s voice echoed from downstairs, "Xiaoling, I have to leave first. I’ve given your brother my phone number. Contact me when you’re free, and I’ll take you out for some good food."

"Okay!" Gu Ling promptly replied. By the time she ran downstairs, Liu Yao and Yuan Cheng had left already. Hurriedly she asked, "Brother, give me Liu Yao’s phone number."

Gu Fan handed a slip of paper to Gu Ling, who left delightedly clutching it as if it was a treasured item.

Su Hui, being more observant, noticed there was another note in Gu Fan’s hand. She asked, "If I’ve guessed correctly, you already know where Leng Le is, right?"

Gu Fan nodded in confirmation: "Yes, I plan on finding her. Please take care of Xiaoling during the time I’m gone, Sister Su."

Su Hui shook her head: "Your parents are still in this city. They can look after Xiaoling. You and I don’t need to worry about it."

Gu Ling’s voice drifted down from upstairs, "Brother, Sister Su, please don’t treat me like a child. I’ve grown up now. I can take care of myself. Besides, you should start figuring out a solution. We all don’t want Sister Lin Xi to become someone else, do we?"

"Don’t worry, I’m going to find a solution." As soon as he finished speaking, Gu Fan ran upstairs, started packing his things, looking ready to leave.

Gu Ling was puzzled: "Are you serious, brother? You’re leaving at a time like this, are you going to abandon Sister Lin Xi?"

Su Hui was concerned: "It’s too dangerous for you to go alone, Gu Fan. I should go with you."

"The journey is dangerous, which is why I must go alone. If I don’t come back, it’s all on you." Gu Fan said this with a resolve in his voice. Gu Ling sensed something bad was about to happen and anxiously questioned, "What do you mean? Where on earth are you going?"

"It’s nothing. I was just talking off the cuff. Things might not be that bad." After saying this, Gu Fan slung his backpack over his shoulder, pinched Gu Ling’s cheeks affectionately and said, "Xiaoling, you’re all grown up and can take care of yourself now. You have to listen to everything Sister Su says when I’m gone."

Gu Ling felt uneasy: "Brother, are you going somewhere dangerous? From what I gathered between you and Su Hui, you’re planning to find your ex-girlfriend Leng Le. But I don’t understand how that’s connected to saving Sister Lin Xi."

Gu Fan did not elaborate. He gave a small smile and walked past Gu Ling.

"Wait, brother, take me with you. I can help." Gu Ling clung to Gu Fan’s arm. She was truly worried. The way Gu Fan just smiled, it felt like he was prepared to risk it all.

"I’m sorry, Xiaoling. I’m your brother, and you’re my sister. As your elder brother, it’s my duty to protect you. I can’t take you with me. Besides, you don’t need to worry about anything. I don’t think anything will befall me." Gu Fan spoke with confidence, but his demeanor suggested otherwise.

At this point, Su Hui stepped forward to reason with Gu Ling, "Let your brother go, Xiaoling. You can’t stop him. The longer we stall, the lower our chances of saving Lin Xi get."

"This..." Gu Ling hesitated for a moment, then let go. She could only choose to trust Gu Fan at this point.

Watching Gu Fan set off resolutely, Su Hui frowned, paused for a moment, and then said: "Gu Fan, if you can’t succeed, don’t force it. I have another plan."

Hearing this, Gu Fan looked back at Su Hui. Seeing her downcast expression, he seemed to understand Su Hui’s plan and gave a self-deprecating laugh: "Thank you, Sister Su. I appreciate your kind intentions. But you’ve finally returned to a normal life, and I don’t want you to get involved with the past again. I don’t want you to get hurt."

Su Hui was stunned for a moment before she returned a relieved smile: "It’s okay. I’m a tough person. Since I moved on, I won’t look back."

"What’s that supposed to mean? What are you two talking about? Can you please speak in terms that I can understand?" Gu Ling panicked. She had no clue what Gu Fan and Su Hui were saying.

Looking at Gu Ling in this state, both Gu Fan and Su Hui found it amusing and burst into laughter. This moment of lightheartedness eased the heavy tension they had been feeling.

After Gu Fan left, Su Hui’s expression changed. She stopped looking relaxed, and as she walked towards her room, she made a phone call. Closing the bedroom door behind her to prevent Gu Ling from interrupting, she left Gu Ling pacing around, unable to involve herself.

"Wait, if you guys won’t tell me, there will be others who will." A flash of realization appeared on Gu Ling’s face, a grin spread across her face as she rushed out of the door.
