Chapter 457 Hello Old Friend

Chapter 457: Chapter 457 Hello Old Friend

An old restaurant was tidied up early today, the boss allowing his staff to knock off earlier. All this was due to two special guests today, namely the currently successful businessman, Luo Jingrong, and Gu Fan’s father, Gu Chuanshan.

"Old Zhang, your cooking skills haven’t changed at all, they’re still so great," Gu Chuanshan said, enjoying his noodles. But Old Zhang wasn’t happy: "Does that mean I haven’t improved?"

Gu Chuanshan laughed and nodded: "Yes, that’s what I meant. I was too shy to say it, glad you figured it out yourself."

Uncle Zhang replied irritably, "All you know is to tease me, next time I’ll add some laxative to your noodles."

"Okay, okay, my bad." Gu Chuanshan said, while looking at Luo Jingrong across the table, and laughing, "We met a couple of times as children. I have little memory of those times. Surprised that you returned."

Luo Jingrong nodded: "To clarify, I didn’t return because of you and Old Zhang, but for another matter. Unexpectedly, it involved your son. I reckon you’ve been hustling overseas for so many years, you probably don’t know what your son has been through recently."

At this, Gu Chuanshan looked puzzled: "I thought we said we’d catch up. We barely started talking and you turned the topic to my son."

Previously, Luo Jingrong nodded slightly: "True, because what happened to your son, made me to believe once again."

"Oh, do tell." Gu Chuanshan was curious, sensing that there was some explosive news.

Luo Jingrong smiled faintly: "Actually, our family has another identity, being one of the five guardians of the Eternal Life Clan, keeping a map related to the secrets of eternal youth."

Hearing this, Uncle Zhang and Gu Chuanshan were curious: "What’s the story behind this Eternal Life Clan?"

Luo Jingrong began to explain: "It’s a tribe that’s now extinct. They sought eternal youth generation after generation, and they indeed achieved it, except that they also created an immortal demon and were completely annihilated by this demon. My ancestor escaped holding the map left by the Eternal Life Clan."

"I didn’t know your family had such a secret." Gu Chuanshan frowned. If average people heard Luo Jingrong’s story, they would doubt its absurdity. But Gu Chuanshan displayed no skepticism.

Uncle Zhang then asked, "So, your ability to create elixirs of longevity is related to the hereditary map that holds the secret of eternal youth in your family, right?"

Luo Jingrong nodded: "Exactly, without the map, I doubt I would have made my fortune. It’s a pity, though, that our family is only one of the five guardians, and the map is not complete."

Gu Chuanshan couldn’t help but ask: "Haven’t you thought about assembling all five parts of the map over the years?"

To Gu’s surprise, Luo Jingrong enthusiastically slapped his thigh: "You know what, thanks to your son’s efforts, we did manage to assemble it."

"What does this have to do with my son?" Gu Chuanshan frowned, sensing that there was more to the story.

Luo Jingrong sighed: "It’s all my fault for exposing my possession of the map while producing the elixirs. Naturally, this attracted unwanted attention and almost led to an accident. Thankfully, your son intervened, saving me once."

Hearing this, Gu Chuanshan was unfazed: "I’m aware of this incident from my son. But what does this have to do with assembling all five parts of the map?"

"Do you really want me to continue? I’m worried you won’t be able to handle it." Amidst his words, Luo Jingrong revealed a sly smile, clearly teasing Gu Chuanshan’s curiosity.

Gu Chuanshan couldn’t bear it anymore: "Alright, alright, stop beating around the bush and spill it."

"I’ll tell you, but you must agree to sell me half of the old house." Luo Jingrong was determined, leaving no room for negotiation.

Hearing this, Gu Chuanshan scoffed, "If you won’t share, so be it. It was your families who gave up first and only we, the Gu family, held on and kept the old house. Now you want leave halfway and take advantage, not a chance."

"I didn’t take any advantage. Don’t you really want to know what your son has gone through these past years, what he did after assembling the five-part map, and why I started believing in that old house again because of what your son did?" Luo Jingrong spoke word by word, as if nothing could stop him from getting that old house.

But to his surprise, Gu Chuanshan was even more determined: "No need. I’ll find out on my own. And if you don’t spill, I assure you, you’ll have no part in what lies ahead, and you won’t get a slice of the action."

"You..." Luo Jingrong was a bit choked up. He originally thought he had the upper hand, but it turned out the tables were turned on him.

Seeing the tension, Uncle Zhang intervened: "Come on, we’re all family here. The old house already belongs to the Gu family. Let’s go by what Gu Chuanshan suggests. Luo, don’t be too stubborn, we should all be willing to compromise."

"Alright then, I’ll tell you what I know. But remember what you just said, Gu Chuanshan, we all must have a share in this." Luo Jingrong finally gave in, and cleared his throat: "I’ve mentioned before that one of the five guardians of the Eternal Life Clan hundreds of years ago pledged loyalty to someone called Queen Qianye. You probably haven’t heard of her and that’s normal as she comes from a small foreign kingdom. This kingdom didn’t last long, but here’s the critical part: Queen Qianye attempted to achieve eternal youth through one of the maps, instead, she ended up reincarnating till now."

Upon hearing this, Gu Chuanshan thought it was a bit odd, but chose to believe it nevertheless. Then he asked again: "But what does this have to do with my son?"

"Don’t worry, it’ll relate to your son soon enough." After saying this, Luo Jingrong laughed slyly, as if a good show was about to start.

Upon seeing Luo Jingrong in this state, Gu Chuanshan felt uneasy and slightly didn’t want to go on, but his curiosity got the better of him. He wanted to know what exactly his son had been through.

"I didn’t witness what your son experienced before. But I heard it from a relative of mine, who also participated in it. As for this relative of mine, he’s a foreign archaeologist. When your son and his friends embarked on a foreign expedition, they followed my relative. Naturally, my relative also has the surname Luo. Because of his seniority and knowledge, everyone affectionately calls him Professor Luo." Saying this, Luo Jingrong laughed, enjoying the anticipation on Gu Chuanshan’s face.

"Carry on. What exactly did my son experience in foreign lands?" Gu Chuanshan’s face turned grave. It seemed he had a presentiment of something.
