Chapter 400: Chapter 400 Still Can’t Beat

Over the weekend, Gu Fan spent one day with Lin Xi and one day training martial arts with Su Hui. However, given Gu Ling’s personality, she was naturally inclined to join them, and Su Hui was more than welcoming.

To prevent Lin Xi from overthinking, Gu Fan invited Lu Yi and Jie to join as well. It was the perfect time for some physical training, lest their skills remain terrible for their next adventure.

Lu Yi and Jie were delighted to join the boxing session. They both playfully jabbed at punching bags, boasting about the improvements in their power, speed, and technique.

"What, what? You’ve improved your skills? I’d love to verify that. Come up to the ring. I’ll give you the opportunity to double team me," teased Su Hui, eager to find an excuse to trounce these boys.

At this, Lu Yi and Jie grimaced. They didn’t stand a chance against Su Hui. They surrendered at once.

Unamused, Su Hui scoffed, "Two grown men afraid of a single woman? Is that how it is?"

Lu Yi retorted hastily, "Please, Sister Su, it’s not about gender. It’s about professionalism. Your profession compared to ours - it’s not the same level at all."

His claim seemed logical but Su Hui, who had mounted the ring and was ready to rumble, had to retort, "Okay, I won’t make it hard for you. Gu Fan is also not weak. Let’s say all three of you men team up against me?"

"Ah!" Gu Fan was now in a quandary. He couldn’t beat Su Hui either. Entering the ring would only result in public humiliation, especially with Lu Yi and Jie’s poor skills, which could potentially backfire.

Adding to his woes, Gu Ling started egging him on, "Brother, what are you afraid of? You three men are scared of a single woman? Isn’t that a disgrace? People are watching."

Gu Fan was exasperated. His sister was sabotaging him from the sidelines, making a scene in public. All the people here had suffered under Su Hui’s fists in the past, so refusing to face her in the ring was no disgrace.

However, egged on by Gu Ling, with the ever-impatient Su Hui staring them down, Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie had no choice but to reluctantly step into the ring.

Three men were about to fight one woman. Gu Ling was looking forward to witnessing the spectacle. A crowd was gathering around with sympathetic looks, leaving Gu Ling quite surprised at their reaction.

As soon as the match began, Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie charged at Su Hui but with a few quick punches and kicks, she knocked Lu Yi and Jie to the ground. Gu Ling gawked at Su Hui’s swift action.

Without further ado, Su Hui suppressed Gu Fan and locked his arm in a hold. Gu Fan was forced to surrender, muttering under his breath about Lu Yi and Jie’s pitiful performance who fell at the slightest touch from Su Hui.

Seeing Su Hui victorious, Gu Ling wanted to applaud but noticed the spectators shaking their heads and sighing. One of them muttered, "Could this fighting she-devil perhaps join another gym and stop battering our perceptions of reality?"

As Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie descended the ring looking rather disgraceful and apparently disinterested in further training, Gu Ling began to realize why no one dared to spar with Su Hui. It was utter masochism.

Gu Ling tried to offer some consolation, "Brother, as an amateur who challenged a professional and could hold your own for quite some time, you’re already doing incredibly well."

At this point, Su Hui also chimed in, approvingly, "Exactly, among all the people at this club, Gu Fan is the only one who has been able to last this long against me. Especially considering you joined much later than most, your progress has been remarkable."

Gu Fan scoffed at this, "Sister Su, don’t think that by sweet-talking me, I’ll put in extra effort, continue training, continue battling against you, and keep fuelling your desire to hit people."

"I don’t... don’t make me out to be so brutal, please," Su Hui quickly refuted, her face turning a shade of embarrassment. It appeared that Gu Fan had hit the nail on the head.

Lu Yi chimed in from the side, unable to contain his grievance, "Sister Su, you have literally knocked our enthusiasm for boxing out of us!"

With a disgruntled look, Su Hui retorted, "You three men cannot even take a beating, let alone handle failure. Can’t you be a bit more resilient?"

Gu Ling quickly joined in, "Exactly, as men, you should bounce back even harder from each setback. You get back up where you fall."

Shaking his head with a sigh, Lu Yi muttered, "In the face of Sister Su, no matter how many times you get back up, you’re bound to fall again. Better to stay down."

Looking at these three unsportsmanlike guys, Su Hui felt like thrashing them again when suddenly, a heavily made-up lady barged in. She dashed towards a sweaty man, glaring at him with resentment.

The man shot her a disdainful look, "What are you doing here? Haven’t I made it clear that we’ve broken up?"

"Break up? What about my eight years of youth? You think you can just discard me at your whim? Once you’ve gotten tired of me, found someone young and pretty, you don’t want me anymore." The woman shot back, nearly in tears. It created an awkward atmosphere. Everyone began to eye the man oddly.

The man, feeling the tension, hastily suggested, "Whatever it is, can we talk it out somewhere else? There are too many spectators here."

Refusing to back down, the woman retorted, "I want to talk about it right here, in front of everyone. Let’s let them decide what’s right. We’re engaged, and I’m pregnant, yet here you are, cancelling our wedding because of another woman. You want me to abort. You’re a complete jerk."

"Are you done? If so, please leave," snarled the man, clearly annoyed. Despite the bystanders pretending to be unconcerned, there was a glint of scorn in their eyes, especially Su Hui and Gu Ling. They found such a man particularly revolting.

The man continued, "I no longer love you, and you don’t love me either. We don’t feel the way we felt while dating. Both of us are aware what’s we’ve lost and gained. Do you think it makes sense to continue being together just because we’re older?"

Sneering sarcastically, the woman replied, "Now you tell me it doesn’t make sense? Where were you before? Now you have another girl, you love her? Then wait eight years and once you stop loving her, are you just going to dump her like you did to me?"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about, let’s talk outside." The man, pulling the woman, tried to escort her out of the gym, but the woman insisted on staying. "I will say it right here, in front of your friends. Are you embarrassed? How do you think I felt, being dumped by you in front of my family and friends?"
