Chapter 388: Chapter 388: Origin of The Mysterious Meeting
A crisp sound echoed around the kitchen where Qian Ye was busily working. She had accidentally broken a bowl, which resulted in a burst of scolding: "Little brat, how can you be so careless? How many bowls have you broken now?"
"The fifth one!" Qian Ye’s voice was barely audible, and she kept her head down to avoid the angry gaze of others.
"You aren’t allowed any food tonight. Go back to your room and stay there. I don’t want to see you right now." Upon hearing the angry command, Qian Ye held back her tears, and ran out of the kitchen, wiping away the tears that wouldn’t stop falling as she ran.
Come nighttime, Qian Ye sat in the dim room, her frail body hugging her legs tightly. The rumbling noise in her stomach made her feel even worse.
Just then, Qian Feng came back, and with a smile, ran over to Qian Ye. She took an apple out from her sleeve and handed it to her.
Qian Ye was stunned, and asked, "Qian Feng, where did you get this apple from?"
"A guest gave it to me after I made them happy while cleaning up. I knew you were being punished by not getting food tonight, so I brought it for you. Eat it quickly. I know you must be really hungry." The kindness from Qian Feng made Qian Ye feel a lot better. It felt like a warm current was flowing inside her body.
"Thank you!" She took the apple from Qian Feng and devoured it eagerly. Though the apple couldn’t fully satisfy her hunger, in her heart, it was as good as a gourmet feast.
Qian Feng laughed, "Don’t rush, eat slowly. I’ll go and see if I can get you something more to eat."
"Okay!" Qian Ye nodded, and as she watched Qian Feng’s retreating figure, she accepted her as a real sister and the only one she could depend on.
At that time, Qian Ye and Qian Feng were each other’s lifeline. They supported each other through that first three-year period. They started to grow up and become more adept at their chores. The days of being scolded were fewer and they always had something to eat. To them, all they could ask for was full stomachs and warm clothes.
One day, as Qian Ye and Qian Feng were cleaning the entrance, they watched a young couple with their child pass by. The child, who looked no different than them, was laughing happily under the loving care of his parents. However, such laughter was something Qian Ye and Qian Feng had never experienced before.
Qian Ye stared at the family as they walked past them and disappeared into the distance, consumed by a longing for a life that felt so out of reach.
Qian Feng quickly recovered herself and let out a sigh, "Godspeed, Qian Ye. That’s something we’ll never have. Our only recourse is to take each day as it comes. Perhaps one day, we might see a small change, however little it may be."
"Alright!" Qian Ye was not really optimistic about the future, but as long as Qian Feng was by her side, it would be okay.
Suddenly, a shout erupted, causing Qian Ye and Qian Feng to fear the worst. When they ran over to investigate, they found a woman being scolded and even slapped.
The woman had displeased a guest, which had angered the boss of the place. However, as it was the woman’s first indiscretion while serving guests, the boss decided on a slight punishment.
The boss then turned his attention to Qian Ye and Qian Feng who had rushed over. His brows furrowed, "These two are quite pretty, they shouldn’t be doing such rough work. It’s making their hands and feet unattractive. Train them properly. In a few years, they will be of use."
Qian Ye didn’t understand what he meant, but Qian Feng’s heart skipped a beat. She never expected they would be targeted so soon.
That evening, Qian Ye asked the older sister, who was punished earlier in the day, why she was beaten and reprimanded.
Qian Feng began to explain. The older sister, who was punished during the day, had arrived there earlier than Qian Feng and was trained from a young age to serve the guests once she grew a little older and bring in money for the boss.
Qian Feng didn’t need to tell Qian Ye what sort of business they were in. Living in that place for three years, Qian Ye sometimes saw beautiful women chatting and laughing with the guests.
Qian Ye couldn’t help but ask, "Will we have to do that too in the future?"
"I... I don’t know..." Qian Feng didn’t answer. She didn’t know what to say. Could it be that this was destined to be their fate?
For the whole first half of the night, Qian Feng couldn’t fall asleep. The more she thought about the older sister’s ordeal and their possible future, the more she couldn’t bear and accept it.
"No! We can’t just live day by day like this!" Qian Feng suddenly sat up, appearing as if she had made up her mind.
Qian Ye was startled awake. She blankly looked at Qian Feng, not sure of what was going on.
"Let’s run away together. Even if life becomes harder, we should work it out on our own. We can’t stay here and let others control our destiny." The determined tone in Qian Feng’s voice and the sudden surge of courage in her inspired Qian Ye.
Qian Ye had always relied on Qian Feng and supported all her decisions. So, that night, when everything was quiet, they secretly opened the door of their room, attempting to escape from there.
However, they were simply children, inexperienced. By dawn, when their disappearance was discovered, they were quickly pursued. After only half a day, they were both caught and brought back.
Without a doubt, what awaited Qian Ye and Qian Feng was severe punishment - a beating with a whip. Qian Feng felt that it was her fault. She shielded Qian Ye and took most of the beating herself.
Both were beaten until they were all bloody and bruised. They were then thrown into a dark and small room. Qian Ye was in somewhat better condition and was still be able to move around, but Qian Feng was so badly injured that she couldn’t even move her face.
"Qian Feng, how are you?" Qian Ye was very worried. She had never seen anyone take such a brutal beating or wound.
"I’m okay. I’ll be fine in a few days." Qian Feng endured the pain, tightened her grip on Qian Ye’s hand, and solemnly said, "Even though we failed to escape this time, we must never give up. If it doesn’t work once, we’ll try twice, and if it doesn’t work twice, we’ll try thrice. We must not let others determine our fate. Even if they beat us to death, we’ll be real sisters in our next life, okay?"
"Okay, if you don’t give up, neither will I." Qian Ye also held Qian Feng’s hand tightly. The two of them made a vow there and then - they would stick together through thick and thin, depending on each other in life and death, and face everything together, no matter what.
Later, a fire broke out at the place. It was started by Qian Feng. Many people died in the fire, and during the chaos, Qian Feng and Qian Ye finally escaped. Their fate took an unexpected turn as a result.
Ten years later, the Shennv Xuanhui was established, with Qian Feng as the leader and Qian Ye as her second.
