Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Run If You Can’t Beat
"If you don’t want trouble, hand it over," the boss demanded, the resolute tone of his command grated on Su Hui’s nerves. She was not one to submit easily, and her stance had made it clear she would not comply.
The boss snorted coldly, "I’m warning you for the last time, bear the consequences otherwise."
Hearing this, Jie was getting nervous, "Sister Su, the situation is not in our favor. Maybe we should just give it to them, it doesn’t look like we can win this."
"Don’t be afraid. If we can’t fight, we’ll run. You guys go first," Su Hui readied herself as if to cover everyone’s retreat. And so Jie, Xu Haowen, Ouyang Jin, Luo Jingrong, and old man Tian didn’t argue, they quickly made their escape. They all knew exactly what kind of formidable adversary they were up against.
"Why can’t you get rid of your stubborn attitude, Su Hui?" The boss was losing his patience. He came at her with threatening steps, his eyes filling with murderous intent.
Despite this, Su Hui didn’t care, "Why can’t you get rid of your arrogant attitude?"
"Because I have the power, that’s the difference between you and me," the boss charged at Su Hui as he was speaking. Although Su Hui seemed defiant, she really wasn’t planning for a head-on collision; she directly chose to run away at a crossroads.
While Su Hui was quite the competitor, she was by no means foolish. She knew the disparity in strength, had no weapon, no backup, couldn’t win, so the wise decision was to run.
The boss never expected Su Hui, who had seemed ready for a fight to the end, would immediately choose to run instead.
The area was huge, with complex corridors which made losing the pursuers easier than expected. Su Hui was confident in her speed and thought she could get away from the boss by making several consecutive turns. However, the boss was faster than she anticipated, and he was steadily closing the gap between them.
"No way, he’s so fast!" Su Hui creased her brows and increased her speed. She knew clearly that her previous plan wouldn’t work and that it was only a matter of time before she was captured.
"You won’t get away, Su Hui," the boss sneered as if watching a cornered prey struggle desperately.
"If I can’t run, then I’ll just defeat you," Su Hui abruptly halted and kicked back at him. Catching the boss off guard, her swift and fierce attack hit him square in the chest.
However, the boss didn’t falter; the force of his charge repelled Su Hui, even causing a dull pain in her ankle.
"Good, I can finally get revenge for that beatdown you gave me last time. Don’t blame me for not going easy on you," with that, the boss started his assault, punching violently and with immense power, the kind of force that could kill an elephant.
Su Hui dared not face him head-on, so, she retreated. Even blocking him seemed impossible.
"Damn it!" Su Hui knew she couldn’t win, so she flicked off her flashlight, throwing a crystal ball to one side, plunging the surroundings into darkness which rendered everyone blind.
Even though the boss was powerful, he couldn’t see anything once the surrounding area fell into darkness, making it impossible for him to hit his target.
However, the only source of light was the crystal ball that Su Hui had put aside. It was like a beacon, drawing the boss’s attention.
The boss wanted to grab it but soon thought better of it. Why would Su Hui so easily abandon the crystal ball? Was it some form of trap?
After some hesitation, the boss dismissed his suspicion as it contradicted his fearless demeanor. So, he boldly reached for it. Suddenly a gust of wind swept over him and the boss laughed, "I knew you couldn’t behave, you’re trying to ambush me," and struck back immediately.
But Su Hui slid under the boss’s punch, grabbed his ankle, pulling him off balance and causing him to crash on the floor.
She then stood up and tightly held onto the boss’s ankle, started to spin, taking advantage of centrifugal force to fling the boss away and creating a significant distance between them.
"This is a token of love from my boyfriend. If you like it, find a girlfriend of your own and maybe she’ll give you one," Su Hui casually picked up the crystal ball and made her escape.
This created ample distance for her to make her escape. She rushed toward a corner and turned. She was trying to use the distance she had made and the complex terrain to outdistance the boss.
The boss quickly got up and gave chase. However, after several turns, he lost sight of Su Hui. Anger welled up within him. The feeling of being tricked was not a pleasant one.
"Su Hui, I’ll remember you!" The boss finally calmed down, his brows furrowed. He secretly pondered why the crystal ball, a crucial piece to an eternal life, was in Su Hui’s hand.
The boss clearly remembered that when the Eternal Life Clan used him as a test subject in their attempts to attain eternal life. He was given an elixir and a Magical Array with twelve time slots was etched. Twelve people born on the same day and year as him were also there. In the end, the boss was placed in a crystal coffin.
The boss saw the Clan’s elder chanting mantras while holding up the crystal ball. Amid the gradually elevating chanting, the ambient Qi seemed to be drawn towards the crystal ball.
After that, the boss blacked out. When he woke up, he became the world’s first person to possess eternal life.
Remembering these events made it all too clear to the boss that the crystal ball in Su Hui’s hand came from the Eternal Life Clan. But why was it in Su Hui’s hands? And why did she say it was a token of love from her boyfriend?
"Wait a minute, according to intelligence, Su Hui’s boyfriend is named Zhuo Hang. What a coincidence, could it be a namesake?" The boss’s brows furrowed, as though he had guessed something.
At this moment, Hai reported to the boss via the walkie-talkie that they had found Jie’s group and were about to capture them.
"Good, capture them. We’ll have hostages in our hands," the boss was satisfied with Hai’s ability. Just then, the boss accidentally came upon a stairway leading to the upper level. He burst into laughter, "Hai, I’ll leave this place to you. I will go first."
"Alright, boss." Upon finishing his sentence, Hai hung up the walkie-talkie, then turned to look at the trembling Jie, Xu Haowen, Ouyang Jin, old man Tian, and Luo Jingrong, who he had cornered.
Hai said, "I’m sorry, I need you to serve as hostages for me. As long as you cooperate, you will not be hurt."
