Chapter 314: Covered in Snowstorm

Chapter 314: Chapter 314: Covered in Snowstorm

At this time, Hu Bo came down, saw Kang Rong pointing a gun at Ning Qi, and was horrified. He hastily interfered, "Kang Rong, what are you doing?"

Annoyed, Kang Rong spoke, "You’re here too, good. Let’s get this clear. Don’t think I don’t know. You’re planning to take the treasure and run away with this scum, leaving me behind."

"I never thought of that," pleaded Hu Bo, maintaining a calm demeanor, but Kang Rong was not listening. She stated, "You think I don’t know anything? I know you’ve been meeting in secret without me."

Upon hearing these words, both Ning Qi and Hu Bo tensed, knowing it would be difficult to convince Kang Rong otherwise.

Hu Bo changed his approach, "Kang Rong, you misunderstand. I never intended to be with Ning Qi. I love you, that’s why I’m with you."

"Easy for you to say. You think I’d believe you? I’ll show you both today that betraying Kang Rong has consequences." Kang Rong was furious, and also feeling humiliated, pained, and distraught. She was on the verge of tears.

"Kang Rong, listen to me. If you shoot, things will get out of hand," exclaimed Hu Bo. But Kang Rong only mocked him, "You just shot, didn’t you? Now it’s my turn. When it’s just the two of us, we can preserve our secrets. We’re a perfect match, aren’t we?"

"Well..." Before Hu Bo could respond, Ning Qi took action. She tried to dodge the pointed gun while Kang Rong’s attention was averted.

"You’re trying to escape? You little scum!" Kang Rong wanted to fire, but she lacked the strength. She barely managed to squeeze the trigger. The shot missed, and the recoil almost knocked her off balance.

Hu Bo rushed over, wrapping his arms around Kang Rong from behind, "Calm down."

"I can’t calm down. I want this scum gone!" Kang Rong struggled fiercely, but lacking strength, she could not break free of Hu Bo’s arms.

Seeing this, Ning Qi swiftly approached, intending to wrestle the gun from Kang Rong’s hand. Unexpectedly, the gun in Kang Rong’s hand fired, hitting Hu Bo in the leg. The pain made Hu Bo release his grip on Kang Rong, and he fell backwards.

Ning Qi was astounded. She saw Kang Rong pointing the shotgun at her and saying, "I’m sorry, I’m not very good at this. I didn’t get the force right last time. It was disappointing, but this time, I promise we’ll both be satisfied."

"Oh, no," Ning Qi paled. She hadn’t imagined things could escalate to this point.

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. It didn’t come from Kang Rong. Shocked, Kang Rong turned to see Hu Bo holding the gun.

"Why, why?" Kang Rong collapsed interrogatingly while Hu Bo looked pained. He didn’t envision ending his relationship with Kang Rong in this way.

Having narrowly escaped, Ning Qi sighed in relief. She examined Hu Bo’s injury, which was just a minor scrape on the foot.

With Ning Qi’s help, Hu Bo stood up, then glanced at Kang Rong, who was lying on the ground filled with regret. Hu Bo felt suffocated.

Ning Qi comforted him, "Don’t blame yourself. We’re both at fault. Don’t carry this burden alone."

"No, it’s my fault. If you were the one I loved all along, why did I involve Kang Rong?" lamented Hu Bo.

As for what to do next, Ning Qi gave it some thought: "Now, it’s just two of us left, with two bags. We have to decide whether to go back to Gu Fan and rely on their strength to return safely, or to leave without them and risk being pursued. Either way, we might not guarantee our safety, let alone the chances of returning successfully."

"Neither way seems safe, what should we do?" Hu Bo was worried, and Ning Qi had no solutions.

After Ning Qi, Hu Bo, and Kang Rong left the secret room, they found another supervisor lying outside. Ning Qi, somewhat conflicted, had deliberately told Hu Bo about the despicable deeds of the supervisor in the hopes he’d get rid of him. Little did she expect Hu Bo to act so hastily, making things difficult.

"Fortunately, I kept a back-up plan." Ning Qi quietly congratulated herself.

While Hu Bo was cleaning up the mess and burying the two bodies, he noticed a figure moving in the forest. He swiftly picked up the shotgun and shouted, "Who’s there?"

The figure didn’t answer but started running away. Panicked, Hu Bo chased after them, shooting several rounds, but the blizzard affected his aim.

Both Hu Bo and Ning Qi followed the figure, and Hu Bo yelled, "Stop right there, or I’ll shoot!"

"Alright, alright, I’m stopping. No need to be so impulsive," Gu Fan raised his hands, turned around, and smiled awkwardly. "I got lost and happened to bump into you. What a coincidence, isn’t it?"

Hu Bo’s face darkened, "Did you see everything?"

"No, no, I just got here. I didn’t see anything. Besides, who can see anything in this blizzard?" Gu Fan joked, acting as if everything was normal.

However, Ning Qi tapped Hu Bo on the shoulder, "Trust me, we need Gu Fan."

"I don’t trust this guy." Hu Bo was wary of Gu Fan, but Ning Qi thought they could use Gu Fan to their advantage. As long as he was on their side, his companions could be manipulated as well.

Ning Qi approached, "Gu Fan, we don’t want to harm you. I’ve always trusted you and believe you’ll do the right thing."

"Of course. I’ve always felt that our relationship could be closer," Gu Fan said vaguely. When Hu Bo heard his words, he felt uncomfortable, fearing that Gu Fan would bargain and manipulate Ning Qi.

In Hu Bo’s eyes, Ning Qi was his and his alone. Any trespassers would pay the price, and Gu Fan looked as if he was planning to invade.

What struck Hu Bo as strange was that it seemed like Ning Qi was willing to let Gu Fan have a go. Was it necessary to set a honey trap in order to use Gu Fan?
