Chapter 1668: Confrontation with Strength

Chapter 1668: Chapter 1668: Confrontation with Strength

Though the Big Boss was powerful and terrifyingly bloodthirsty, he was, after all, just one person. There was no way he could handle the scattered Resistance Army alone. Besides, as long as one avoided direct contact with him, a berserk individual charging wildly wasn’t much of a threat.

The real threat to the Resistance Army was the X Legion, stationed in four directions to encircle the Resistance Army Headquarters, attacking in an organized fashion.

This was why Gu Fan chose to give up targeting the Big Boss and prioritized dealing with the X Legion first.

Now, in all directions, countless rockets were fired, whistling fiercely as they slammed into buildings. The deafening explosions were accompanied by flames roaring into the sky and smoke spreading everywhere, reducing the already desolate area into a wasteland.

Gu Fan noticed the direction from which the rockets had been launched. He immediately dashed forward, directly targeting an enemy camp.

Within a short time, Gu Fan crushed the eastern enemy forces, leaving them running for their lives in disarray. This opened a hole in the enemy’s encirclement.

One camp was destroyed, but three still remained. If he could take out these camps one by one and then deal with the Big Boss, this battle might finally find some stability.

However, the sound of rocket fire stopped, and Gu Fan knew exactly what that implied. The remaining three camps must have started advancing into the zone, beginning their search for Resistance fighters.

It was the same principle as how the Big Boss couldn’t take out all of the scattered Resistance fighters at once. Now, as the X Legion entered the abandoned city, it would inevitably scatter as well, making it impossible for Gu Fan to eliminate all of them in a short span of time.

"This is troublesome!" Gu Fan leapt into the air once more, scanning the abandoned city beneath the night sky for signs of change.

The power in the abandoned city was already out, but due to the flames from warfare, many areas had ignited. He could even smell the acrid odors from high above.

Sporadic battles raged across the abandoned city, with attacks and counterattacks cropping up everywhere. Gu Fan couldn’t even tell how things were going in various areas.

Where? Where exactly? Gu Fan knew he couldn’t save everyone. He only wanted to rescue a few key companions, particularly Gu Xiaojin, though it would be difficult for anyone else to escape danger.

Across the rooftops, vampires darted and leapt, hunting for Resistance fighters, their purpose clear—harvesting lives.

Hearing the gunfire and the screams, Gu Fan’s heart clenched tightly. If he could, he truly wished he could save more people.

Gu Fan couldn’t forget how, in the beginning, his identity had caused universal hostility. The countless eyes filled with hatred and rejection had stabbed into his heart like daggers.

Later, Gu Fan’s actions spoke louder than words, proving to everyone that he was himself and that the Demon King was the Demon King.

Time and again, it was Gu Fan who led them out of dire straits, earning their trust and respect, and even becoming the vessel of their hopes. Everyone truly believed that Gu Fan could lead them to defeat the Demon King.

"Enough thinking!" Gu Fan made up his mind—wherever there was fighting, he would go. Saving as many as he could was all he could manage.

With a swift dive, Gu Fan charged straight into a building, taking out every vampire within. He successfully rescued three Resistance fighters, instructing them to head east, where the enemy had already been eliminated, allowing them to break out in that direction.

Before the three Resistance fighters had time to thank him, Gu Fan was already rushing to the next location to save others.

In this way, Gu Fan moved tirelessly, bringing down more enemies and rescuing more Resistance fighters.

Following Gu Fan’s instructions, the rescued fighters all headed east. One group after another converged together, gradually forming a force that was small but capable.

The assembled Resistance fighters numbered at least thirty, and upon asking around, they realized they had all been saved by Gu Fan. Their gratitude for Gu Fan surged in an instant.

Some people proposed following Gu Fan and fighting back together. The suggestion received widespread approval.

But despair soon followed, as Ning Qi appeared in their sights, accompanied by several remould persons, walking leisurely in their direction.

"Judging by your high spirits, it seems you’ve placed all your hopes on Gu Fan," Ning Qi said with a smug smile, her contemptuous eyes mocking their futile efforts.

The Resistance fighters were stunned at first, but upon recognizing Ning Qi as part of the X Legion, they wasted no time. They didn’t care how beautiful she was and responded with bullets.

Facing the numerous barrels aimed at her, Ning Qi remained unfazed. She watched calmly as tongues of flame erupted, bullets flying toward her amidst the clamorous gunfire.

With little effort, Ning Qi chanted an incantation and set up a defensive barrier in front of her.

Countless bullets struck the barrier only to shatter upon impact, unable to move it in the slightest. The sight left the Resistance fighters shocked and instantly aware that they had encountered a monster.

"I dislike wasting time. Finish them quickly," Ning Qi said casually. At her command, the remould persons behind her stepped forward, each radiating a violent and intimidating aura.

The Resistance fighters had already lost their fighting spirit by now. There was no trace of resolve to resist against them; some had even begun retreating.

Just as the Resistance’s morale completely crumbled, Gu Fan descended from the skies, standing resolutely in front of them, facing Ning Qi and her group with commanding presence.

Seeing Gu Fan appear, Ning Qi frowned. "Strange, you should be rushing around saving people. Why come back here?"

Gu Fan responded coolly, "Because something felt off. The eastern enemy forces were too easily wiped out, which made me suspicious that you intentionally left a weakness there to lure Resistance fighters to break out east, giving you an opportunity to trap them all at once."

Ning Qi froze for a moment before laughing. "As expected of Gu Fan, you saw right through my strategy. But so what? Can you, alone, protect all of these people?"

Gu Fan remained calm. "That’s fine. You also have several subordinates. Do you really think they can protect you?"

"You..." Ning Qi realized this was psychological warfare, yet she had already fallen into its trap.

What now? If Ning Qi sent her subordinates to hunt the Resistance fighters while Gu Fan ignored their fate and focused solely on dealing with her?

But knowing Gu Fan’s character, would he really ignore the lives of the Resistance fighters?

"I don’t believe you would abandon them," Ning Qi said, putting on an all-or-nothing stance.

Gu Fan, however, remained carefree. "No problem. Every Resistance fighter is a hero. From the moment they picked up their weapons, they were ready to sacrifice themselves. But have you prepared yourself, Ning Qi? Are you ready to take this gamble?"
