Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 1434 Two Experimental Zones

Chapter 1434: Chapter 1434 Two Experimental Zones

Because the power system in the underground laboratory had been damaged, everyone could only illuminate their path forward with flashlights.

Over a hundred people clung close together, shining their flashlights here and there, tense beyond measure.

A vampire had said, "I’ve heard that these mutant vampires are formidable, but they only attack what they see right in front of them, so as long as we’re not spotted, we’ll be fine."

That sounded simple enough, but it was difficult in practice, and everyone still looked decidedly pessimistic.

As they walked, they saw a room and immediately became alert, stopping in their tracks.

Vampires have excellent hearing, and it seemed they could detect the noise coming from the room, so one of them quickly made a hand signal.

Everyone pressed themselves against the walls, their hearts racing with tension and unease, even trembling in some cases.

Xue Lang took the lead, signaling to a few vampires with his eyes, and then they all charged into the room together. At that moment, everyone held their breath and their hearts raced.

It didn’t take long before Xue Lang emerged indicating the room was safe and empty.

Relieved, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Meanwhile, Gu Fan thought to himself, "Aren’t you a vampire? Shouldn’t you have good hearing? How could you be mistaken? Could it be that you’re also too nervous?"

Naturally, the vampires were the most powerful members of this team, and among the vampires, Xue Lang was the most capable, making him the most suitable choice for leader.

Without any reluctance, Xue Lang began to plan. He spread out the blueprints of the laboratory on the table and started plotting their advance.

The mutant vampires were very dangerous; a full confrontation would be equivalent to a death sentence, so sticking together and moving as a group was the best option. When Xue Lang proposed this, no one objected.

Some thought that staying near the elevator was the best course of action, hoping that after some time, the elevator would start functioning again and they could use it to escape.

But Xue Lang disagreed, pointing out that there would be no way out if they were cornered by the mutants at the elevator; a fight to the death was likely, with predictable results.

Li stepped forward and said, "I think we should choose an area with more intersections, to facilitate our escape and shake off the mutant vampires."

"That’s right, you are absolutely correct. What’s your name?" Xue Lang thought Li’s idea was solid, as they needed people like him who could come up with strategies.

Li studied the map intently, deliberating as if he might have more to say, which led everyone to eagerly anticipate his next suggestion.

But Li shook his head. "That’s all I could think of for now."

Hearing this, everyone was slightly disappointed, but fortunately, Xue Lang hadn’t pinned all his hopes on Li.

Then, when no one was paying attention, Li slipped out of the room to find Gu Fan and share what he had discovered.

The blueprints brought by Xue Lang only showed Laboratory Zone 1 and not Laboratory Zone 2, though an entrance to Zone 2 was marked on the map.

This struck Gu Fan as strange. Why had Organization X provided only the map to Zone 1 and not Zone 2?

Li also found it odd. "If you want to know the layout, you could look at the map yourself. Why make me go? If you want to devise a strategy, why don’t you go instead of having me speak for you?"

"This..." Gu Fan was at a loss for words, unsure of how to explain, when Xue Lang walked out.

Gu Fan quickly turned his back to Xue Lang; fortunately, he was in the crowd, so his movement didn’t draw Xue Lang’s attention.

Li understood immediately upon seeing Gu Fan’s reaction. "Oh, you don’t want Xue Lang to see you. It looks like Xue Lang knows your true identity."

"That’s not important. What matters is whether we can survive and leave this place alive." Gu Fan glanced at the dark corridor, which emanated a sense of danger akin to the entrance of hell itself.

Xue Lang began to rally everyone forward, toward the area with many intersections.

Immediately, everyone responded to the call, following Xue Lang, but their steps were heavy with the knowledge of what was likely to confront them next.

As Gu Fan passed a room filled with various items, an idea struck him.

Soon after, Li quickly caught up with Xue Lang at the front of the group, suggesting they move anything movable to create a barricade with the available items for a solid defense.

Xue Lang liked the idea and immediately ordered people to start moving things. Any extra defensive measures meant a greater chance of survival.

"What’s your name?" Xue Lang began to take notice of Li, seeing him as a potentially valuable ally.

Li gave his name and then returned to his original position in the group.

He didn’t stand close to Gu Fan but kept a distance, as Gu Fan had specifically requested; they didn’t want to draw Xue Lang’s attention to Gu Fan by focusing too much on Li.

Gu Fan could imagine Xue Lang’s reaction upon spotting him; first surprise, then exhilaration as he commanded the group, "Everyone, this is Gu Fan, Organization X’s number one enemy. If we capture him, our sins will be redeemed, and we can leave this accursed place immediately. Let’s get moving!"

Soon, under Xue Lang’s leadership, they reached an area with numerous intersections, uncertain of the next step. Then Li came forward with another suggestion.

To establish defenses at the four crossroads, forming a quadrilateral for mutual support, and to assign additional people to one particular intersection because it was the closest to the elevator.

Xue Lang immediately adopted this suggestion, ordering a rapid construction of defenses at the four crossroads, piling up whatever they could bring together.

Tables and chairs were stacked to form obstacles, creating a rudimentary defensive zone. In that moment, everyone was not just disposing of trash but fighting for their survival.

When it was found that they didn’t have enough items to build an effective barrier, a team was dispatched to search for more tables, chairs, and any other useful items.

Gu Fan was among those chosen for this task, along with ten others who were down on their luck.

One of them complained, "Damn it, why is it always us?"

To which Gu Fan replied, "No choice. Our area is lacking, and the vampires are the main fighting force; naturally, they won’t risk themselves, so it’s up to us."

The others became even more dejected, feeling abandoned once again.

Gu Fan was nervous too, but he was more curious about Laboratory Zone 2 and wondered whether he could use this opportunity to slip away from the main group and head directly there.
