The Tower of Darkness doors opened, and several trucks drove in. Among them was Gu Fan and Li, shackled by the hands and feet, with black labels attached to their bodies.

Fully armed personnel stood ready; they opened the truck trailers, shouting for everyone to get out.

Gu Fan and Li jumped down from the truck. Before they could even survey the surroundings properly, they were shoved several times.

"Get over there and assemble," the personnel from Organization X treated Gu Fan and Li like prisoners, displaying a very hostile attitude.

The transportation included not only humans but also vampires. Each sported an expression of utter dejection, enduring rough handling and verbal abuse.

Due to the last operation causing the loss of four Xue Clan members, everyone involved in that mission was held accountable for not providing suitable protection.

After gathering the group together, a person, who looked quite senior, spoke, "You know the mistakes you have made. You should pay the price for your wrongdoings. Now Organization X is giving you one last chance — go down below the Tower of Darkness and clean up the trash."

Gu Fan, head bowed like everyone else, accepted domestication, yet he couldn’t understand why trash cleaning was so terrifying.

Among the people being punished, Gu Fan saw the familiar face of Xue Lang, but Xue Lang hadn’t noticed Gu Fan. Otherwise, Xue Lang surely would have recognized him and redeemed his own crimes on the spot.

Then Organization X herded these people into a large transport elevator. Despite the spacious elevator, squeezing nearly a hundred people and vampires together was still uncomfortable.

Organization X didn’t care about their feelings, as these people were already considered expendable by the organization.

Gu Fan, squeezed into a corner and maintaining silence, pondered why such a massive transport elevator was necessary; it must certainly be for transporting large equipment.

What exactly was Organization X planning to do by sending such large equipment to the underground?

Gu Fan then remembered what the AI, Xiaolan, had told him during his time in the forbidden area — beneath the Dark City lay an ancient Super Civilization spaceship filled with valuable items.

The blue potion given to him by AI Xiaolan, designed to counteract vampires, was meant to help Gu Fan defeat Organization X, destroy the spaceship, and ensure the contents never fell into the hands of Organization X.

For Gu Fan, if Organization X obtained those items, they would become much stronger, which would be highly detrimental for him.

After the elevator descended nearly three hundred meters, they finally arrived, and everyone inside had their hearts pounding with tension.

Everyone held their breath, as though preparing for battle, which left Gu Fan puzzled, wondering if "cleaning trash" had another underlying meaning.

When the elevator doors opened, they were greeted by a pitch-dark corridor. People hurriedly grabbed their flashlights, and a few nervous individuals nearly dropped theirs.

Pressed into the corner, Gu Fan hoped everyone would move a bit faster; he was struggling to breathe.

Step by step, everyone cautiously moved out of the elevator, and, to Gu Fan’s great relief, he finally escaped the cramped conditions.

After everyone had left the elevator, the instant the doors closed, everyone’s face turned to one of despair.

Gu Fan immediately asked Li beside him, "What’s going on? Why is everyone so afraid of cleaning this trash?"

Li grimly explained, "You’ve only recently joined Organization X, so you might not know about this. A long time ago, Organization X established a laboratory underground that focused on enhancing vampire physiology. The goal of the experiment was to make vampires impervious to sunlight and wooden stakes."

"That sounds like a good thing, making Organization X stronger," responded Gu Fan, looking hopeful, though inside he was actually thinking, "Damn, if vampires overcome their weaknesses, that would be a disaster."

Seeing Li shaking his head, Gu Fan continued, "But the experiment failed, leading to the abandonment of the laboratory. However, the failed outcomes - the trash we need to clean up - are still occupying this lab."

With a frown Gu Fan added, "I understand now; since it was researching how to overcome vampire weaknesses, they must have used vampires for the experiments. And these so-called ’failed outcomes’ are actually vampires."

"Yes, these vampires, even after the experiments, remain vulnerable but became violent and incredibly aggressive. Due to their presence, Organization X had to abandon the lab," replied Li, his face full of pessimism.

Gu Fan still confused, queried further, "With Organization X’s capabilities, cleaning up these mutant vampires shouldn’t be too difficult, right?"

A vampire in the group interjected, "The difficulty is that once bitten by these mutant vampires, you also turn into one. Initially, there were only ten mutant vampires in this lab, but after some disturbances, their numbers increased to a hundred. Every time Organization X sends someone to suppress these mutants, their numbers just keep growing."

"That means the mutant vampires are too tough to handle, forcing Organization X to abandon the lab, but they still wish to reclaim it, so they send people here to do some cleaning," Gu Fan finally understood, but he still expressed surprise, "That can’t be right. If these mutant vampires are so formidable, sending us here won’t help at all; it would only result in more mutants."

"Organization X must have developed something that can combat these mutant vampires, but these tools haven’t been tested in action yet, and they are not sure of the effects. Hence, they are sending us, those who need to redeem ourselves, to test these weapons," someone just finished explaining when the elevator doors opened with a ding.

Gu Fan was startled; the last time the elevator had brought them all down, this time, it transported loads of weapons, and some food and water.

Everyone hastily grabbed weapons, vampires included, as these tools were their only lifeline.

Both Gu Fan and Li also picked up a gun, each loaded with tranquilizer bullets, similar to the rumored tranquilizer guns.

"Alright, now that everyone has a weapon, immediately start moving out of the elevator and begin cleaning up the trash. No mistakes allowed, and good luck," the elevator intercom announced in a cold, indifferent voice, overseeing life and death from above, which was particularly annoying.

Finally, the elevator doors closed again, cutting off everyone’s way back, forcing them to move forward.
