After some time, Gu Fan heard many footsteps outside the room, which meant those people had returned. So, Gu Fan could only pray once more, hoping that they wouldn’t thoroughly check the room to ensure it was secure.

Just then, Gu Fan heard an argument. It sounded like someone was insisting on checking the room to confirm that no one had entered it after they had left and to ensure it was safe.

"Damn, what I feared has come to pass. Do you have to be so diligent, brother?" Gu Fan was worried. All it would take for him to be discovered was for them to lift the bed.

While Gu Fan was tense, he heard an annoyed female voice say, "What’s there to check? Don’t you have surveillance? Just look at the footage, and you’ll know. You woke me up in the middle of the night; can’t a person get some decent sleep?"

"This woman’s voice... I feel like I’ve heard it somewhere before." Gu Fan pondered, first a familiar silhouette and now a familiar voice.

The door to the room was slammed shut, and it looked like the Eastern beauty was quite angry.

Gu Fan could only mutter "Hocus Pocus" and hope that he wouldn’t have to fight with this Eastern beauty later on. What if he couldn’t overpower her? Women are terrifying when they’re angry.

The bed suddenly shook, causing Gu Fan, who was under it, to realize the Eastern beauty had gone to bed, and shortly after, the light went out.

"Wait a minute, how am I going to get out of here later?" Gu Fan was a bit stumped. He had only thought about how to get in, not how to leave, making only half a plan and trapping himself.

Gu Fan tried to figure out how he would get away when the bed shook again, seemingly as the Eastern beauty adjusted her sleeping position.

For some reason, Gu Fan started to fantasize, wondering if the Eastern beauty had a graceful sleeping posture.

Half an hour later, the bed didn’t move much or frequently, and Gu Fan guessed that the Eastern beauty was asleep. So he quietly, very quietly, crawled out from under the bed. This sneaking around was new to him.

The security outside heard Li Shi’s scream and immediately rushed in, only to see the light on and Li Shi sitting on the bed with her sleeping robe slightly disarrayed, revealing her shoulder.

The security immediately asked, "What happened? What’s going on?"

"It’s nothing; I just had a nightmare," Li Shi said looking genuinely shaken as if she had really experienced a frightful dream.

"Oh, I see. We won’t disturb your rest then." Relieved, the security left the room, and at Li Shi’s request, they closed the door.

After the security left, Li Shi went immediately to lock the door, then returned to the bed and patted it, signaling it was safe.

Gu Fan then crawled out from under the bed again and glanced at Li Shi. He wore an awkward expression and asked, "How come you’re here?"

Li Shi gave Gu Fan a disdainful look: "You can thank your dear relative Helen for that. I have no idea what conflict you’ve had with her, but somehow I ended up being involved."

"Helen? Could it be..." Gu Fan wondered if his ruse of pretending to use the space-time door to deceive Helen and thus trick Organization X had been exposed, which is why Helen, annoyed, took Li Shi as a hostage.

Gu Fan sheepishly smiled, "I am really sorry. I didn’t expect them to come after you."

Li Shi huffed, "What good has come from knowing you? You picked on me in high school, and when I finally transferred schools, I ran into you again. And ever since our reunion, I’ve been in one unfortunate incident after another."

"Don’t say that. It’s not like nothing good has ever happened since you met me." Gu Fan had barely finished when Li Shi gave him a look: "Then tell me, what good things have happened? "Well, everyone has secrets, right? You’ve also kept many from me. After you transferred in high school, how many boyfriends have you had?" Gu Fan tried to change the subject, but Li Shi, unable to contain her irritation, pinched his arm hard, venting her frustration.

Gu Fan endured the pain without crying out, inwardly lamenting that the pinch was rather too harsh.

Watching Li Shi puffing with anger, Gu Fan apologized and repeatedly assured her that he would definitely see to it that she left unharmed.

With that, Li Shi had another doubt. She was curious about how Gu Fan managed to infiltrate the place.

So Gu Fan explained how he had stealthily entered the room, though he hadn’t known in advance that the Eastern beauty Catherine was interested in was Li Shi.

"Gu Fan, do you realize where we are? I am here because of you, but why are you here? What exactly are you up to?" Li Shi eyed Gu Fan with skepticism.

"Well..." Gu Fan scratched his head and, feeling guilty, avoided eye contact with Li Shi. He found another excuse, "The reason you are here is because of me, and the reason I’m here is to rescue you. Isn’t that logical?"

"Is it?" Li Shi remained skeptical.

"Of course, it’s true. I swear to heaven; I’m here purely to rescue you, and there’s nothing else to it." Gu Fan vowed fervently, while inwardly cursing Helen several times. This was nothing short of giving Gu Fan a tough challenge.
