Chapter 1359: Chapter 1359: Eldest Sister, a Businesswoman

Li Shi asked, "So hurry up and tell me, how do we escape this place, then how do we escape Dark City, then how do we escape the Dark Primitive Mountain, and then how do we get back to the original city? Along the way, how many obstacles will we face, how many pursuits and attempts on our lives will there be, what about food and water, what if I’m recaptured by them and they are furious, will they treat me as well as they do now, and since we’re a man and a woman escaping together, what if you have evil intentions towards me halfway through, how should I resist, if..."

Stop, stop, stop, Gu Fan had to interrupt Li Shi’s words because he couldn’t answer any of the situations she described.

Yes, it was already difficult enough for Gu Fan to escape on his own, let alone bringing Li Shi along. Even if the two of them really did manage to escape the East Nobles’ estate, as long as the East Nobles reacted quickly and sealed off Dark City as soon as they realized Li Shi was gone, finding Gu Fan and Li Shi would be a piece of cake for them.

Seeing Gu Fan at a loss, Li Shi added another sentence, "Look at that, you come without even planning. This is so not like you. It just shows you didn’t really come to rescue me with all your heart."

Gu Fan hurried to explain, "How could that be? Love breeds chaos. I was just too anxious to rescue you and didn’t have time to plan."

Li Shi curled her lip, "Hah, as if I would believe you."

Just then, a voice came from outside, "Li Shi, I heard you had a nightmare, are you asleep now?"

Hearing this, Gu Fan quickly hid under the bed, and Li Shi hurriedly assumed a posture, trying to look as though her energy had been sapped by nightmares.

"Is that you, Helen? Come in," Li Shi said wearily.

The door opened, and Helen came in. She glanced at Li Shi, who looked somewhat out of spirits, and showed a look of concern, "It seems you’ve had poor sleep. Is my hospitality lacking?"

Li Shi shook her head in response, "Everything about food, drink, and lodging is better than before, but I just don’t feel secure. I also lack freedom."

Helen commented lightly, "I know what you’re thinking, and I don’t like this either, but it’s Gu Fan’s fault for coming here. He could have gone anywhere else, but he had to come to Dark City. I couldn’t think of a good solution, so I had to use you to threaten him, hoping he would back off."

"I’ve heard that excuse several times now. Organization X wanted you to capture me, and now you have. Once Organization X deals with Gu Fan, I will have served my purpose, and then..." Li Shi didn’t get to finish before Helen earnestly assured, "As long as Gu Fan is no longer a threat to Organization X, I guarantee I will escort you back safely."

Li Shi was unconvinced, "Are your guarantees valid? Do you have any say in Organization X? With your own status not high, you can’t even guarantee your own safety, so how can you guarantee mine?"

Her words hit a sore spot for Helen. Although she was a noble, she was also of mixed blood, and therefore faced exclusion from other nobles.

Helen’s face darkened, "No matter what, I have done what I can. If it wasn’t for my protection, you might have fallen into someone else’s hands by now. Gu Fan cannot blame me for being unkind."

"Yes, yes, thank you for your care," Li Shi feigned gratitude, her insincerity making Helen feel like she had wasted her conscience.

Helen said evenly, "Li Shi, I know you must be feeling terrible about being brought here by force. You harbor resentment, which I understand, but please don’t take it out on me. Right now, I am the only person you can rely on and trust."

"I have a question for you. If Gu Fan really comes to Dark City to start a war with Organization X, what will you do?" Li Shi asked seriously, looking into Helen’s eyes.

Helen answered, "I will not take sides. I will try to mediate, using you as leverage to persuade Gu Fan to back down. That’s why I made sure to capture you before anyone else could."

Li Shi was puzzled, "If Gu Fan dares to come here, would Organization X let Gu Fan go? Even if Gu Fan considers my safety and is willing to stop, would Organization X just leave things be?"

"As long as Gu Fan is willing to back down, that’s enough. I will convince Organization X to let bygones be bygones, provided the leaders of Organization X aren’t foolish," Helen said confidently.

"What do you mean?" Li Shi was confused. Of course, she didn’t know that Gu Fan had the Destiny Stone Body Guard and that nobody could do anything to him, something that had been proven countless times.

Therefore, Organization X had already given up on directly confronting Gu Fan, but they continued to watch his every move, looking for an opportunity. This was also why Gu Fan wanted to break Organization X, as he didn’t want to spend every day on guard against a massive and malevolent organization.

"All right, get some rest. I won’t disturb you any further," Helen said, ready to leave since the conversation wasn’t going well, better to end it quickly.

Once Helen had gone, Li Shi patted the bed, signaling it was safe.

Gu Fan crawled out from under the bed once again. Why did this feel so awkward as if he were guilty of some wrongdoing?

Li Shi sighed, "Your relative seems to mean well for you, even though you’ve acted dishonorably."

"Relatives are good relatives, it’s a pity we can’t stand on common ground," Gu Fan said, looking troubled. If he could, he wouldn’t want to make things difficult for Helen, but what could he do when his path was at odds with Organization X?

Li Shi looked at Gu Fan curiously, "Now I realize that the X Fund was just child’s play; behind it, Organization X is the real behemoth. Tell me, Gu Fan, a nobody like you, how did you offend Organization X, and yet still dare to invade their territory?"

"So if I tell you, you’ll forgive me for dragging you into this mess?" Gu Fan asked, hope in his eyes. Li Shi punched him lightly in annoyance, "Wishful thinking. I will never forgive you in this lifetime. First, pay me back the money you owe me from high school."

"Damn it, you’re grasping at straws. It’s clearly you who owes me money." Seeing Li Shi able to joke again, Gu Fan knew she was feeling better.

Back to the matter at hand, Gu Fan still couldn’t figure out how to get Li Shi out, so he could only subject her to a little more suffering for the time being. He would leave first, then come up with a foolproof plan.

"Alright!" Li Shi looked confident in Gu Fan, then added, "Gu Fan, last time I helped you and ended up kidnapped, I got a company as compensation. This time, will there be similar compensation? Just so you know, I’ve been thinking of getting into real estate development recently."
