Chapter 1356: Chapter 1356: Finally Infiltrated
Gu Fan couldn’t enter the residence of the East Nobles in the same way, because he didn’t know the locations of the surveillance cameras, so for now, he could only proceed step by step, blending into the freight center was just the first step.
The second step began when Gu Fan took a large box on the way and then pretended to be a mover.
In terms of timing, just as Gu Fan had calculated, the freight workers were moving items, transferring them one by one from the staging shelf to the truck.
According to the surveillance video, all these freight workers were out moving items, none stayed behind to watch the truck, since it was Organization X’s turf and there was no need to worry about theft.
Gu Fan watched the truck, observing the workers as they moved items into the truck and then returned to the staging shelf.
Gu Fan counted the number of people and estimated the time it took for the workers to go back and forth. When he felt the time was about right, he began the second step.
With no one around the truck, Gu Fan tossed the large box he was carrying into the truck, then climbed in himself.
"I never thought I’d actually have to smuggle myself in this way," muttered Gu Fan as he positioned the large box and then hid inside it, silently praying that he wouldn’t be discovered.
Things went smoothly. When the freight workers returned, they didn’t pay any attention to the big box because it looked no different from the others around it.
Even if a freight worker noticed the big box hadn’t been moved by them, they might assume it was moved by someone else, especially since there were so many items that they hadn’t handled personally.
The second step went smoothly. Gu Fan felt the vehicle start and believed the truck was heading towards the mansion of the East Nobles, which brought on a wave of tension, thrilling like the rush of a heist.
Calculating the time, it was only a ten-minute drive from the freight center to the mansion of the East Nobles; Gu Fan didn’t even need to doze off.
Time ticked away slowly, and in the darkness, Gu Fan’s heart beat nervously. He knew what failure would mean: he would be trapped and surrounded from all sides, so the pressure of not failing was incredibly tense.
When the vehicle stopped, and the engine turned off, Gu Fan realized the critical third step was coming.
The sound of the truck’s rear door opening made Gu Fan tense up; he held his breath, trying not to make a sound.
The noise of workers moving items and their chatting voices, interspersed with laughter, filled the air. The voices gradually moved further away, and Gu Fan knew it was time to take a gamble. He quickly crawled out of the large box.
"Good, just like I estimated," thought Gu Fan. Assuming that at the freight center all the workers moved items together, then at the mansion of the East Nobles, the workers would likely stick together too.
So Gu Fan, masquerading as a freight worker with the large box, walked down from the truck. Even if someone in the surveillance room noticed him, it was unlikely they’d find it suspicious. Unless the surveillance personnel were extremely meticulous and actually counted the number of workers, which would just mean Gu Fan was out of luck.
Now Gu Fan was walking down a freight passage, knowing that the workers earlier had taken the same route. If he didn’t act quickly, he would soon run into the workers returning from their delivery, which would be very awkward.
Time was of the essence, and Gu Fan stealthily glanced around to understand the situation. Finally, he spotted a restroom, and immediately ducked inside.
Generally speaking, restrooms don’t have surveillance cameras. After entering the restroom, Gu Fan found a stall, closed the door, and patiently waited.
He waited patiently for ten hours, still gambling. With so many cameras around, he didn’t believe the security room could keep an eye on the restroom entrance all the time, monitoring who was going in and out.
Of course, Gu Fan was prepared for any eventuality. If someone came to clean the restroom, he was ready to use his agility and sharp judgment to seize the moment and leap from one stall to another before the cleaning began.
However, Gu Fan was lucky. Over the span of those ten hours, no one came to clean the restroom, so there was no need for any risky moves.
When Gu Fan felt it was about the right time, he turned his freight worker clothes inside out and made some adjustments, instantly transforming them into a security uniform just like those used at the place.
Thus, Gu Fan walked out of the restroom clad in a security uniform, with a map of the mansion of the East Nobles clear in his mind.
Ten hours had passed, and night had fallen, which was part of Gu Fan’s plan.
Because of the darkness, there would be fewer people moving about the vast mansion, and thus, fewer people he might encounter.
With a flashlight in hand, Gu Fan pretended to be a patrolling security guard. He walked past surveillance cameras without hesitation, boldly making his way.
The mansion was large, with many rooms and corridors. Listening in all directions, Gu Fan was alert to any noises from the other end of the corridor. If he detected the presence of other guards or anyone approaching, he quickly chose a different direction to evade them.
By now, Gu Fan had successfully infiltrated the mansion, but the real test was only just beginning.
"This place is so big, with so many rooms," Gu Fan thought, frustrated he couldn’t complain out loud for fear of making noise. "Where on earth do I start looking for that Eastern face?"
He couldn’t possibly search each room one by one; that would be too blatant.
Just as Gu Fan was completely unsure of where to go, suddenly his stomach growled. He hadn’t eaten for a long time and was unbearably hungry.
"If I don’t eat, how will I have the strength to work?" Gu Fan thought, decisively changing his direction and heading to the kitchen.
Based on the information from the map he remembered, Gu Fan found the kitchen without trouble. He had to admit, the mansion was grand and wealthy, with a kitchen setup akin to that of a five-star hotel.
Gu Fan didn’t think twice and started rummaging through cabinets and drawers for something to eat. Being discovered was the least of his worries—as long as he was full, he’d have the strength to resist or run away, right?
It seemed Gu Fan was in luck again. It was normal for the mansion’s security guards to come to the kitchen for food during night shifts, and the kitchen staff even prepared food for them. So, to the surveillance team, a person dressed as a security guard looking for food didn’t seem out of the ordinary.
Gu Fan found some food and drinks and immediately started eating, not caring about anything else. His first priority was to fill his stomach.
At that moment, Gu Fan heard footsteps and became alert. Holding the plate, he moved to a corner to continue eating, trying as much as possible not to draw attention.
Two individuals dressed as maids entered the kitchen, carrying leftovers which they then threw into the trash can.
