Chapter 1355: Chapter 1355: Searching for a Breakthrough

For three days, Gu Fan stayed at his residence, watching the surveillance videos non-stop, observing the vehicles coming and going, the pedestrians, and especially noting where people and vehicles came from and went to after the gates of the East Nobles’ residence opened.

He took note of the vehicles that normally entered and exited, their license plate numbers, and documented everything that might help him infiltrate that house in his notebook.

Gu Fan noticed that every day at a fixed time, a cargo truck would enter the residence of the East Nobles.

He guessed it was probably for food delivery, as people need to eat every day and therefore require daily deliveries.

Thus, in Gu Fan’s mind, he plotted his way into the cargo and into the truck, to successfully infiltrate the residence of the East Nobles. But as he imagined sneaking out of the cargo, he looked up to find himself directly under a surveillance camera.

"No good!" Gu Fan shook his head, immediately dismissing the plan.

If he could hack into the security system like in the movies, causing all the monitors to malfunction, Gu Fan could have bypassed the wall completely.

Just as Gu Fan was racking his brains for a good solution, feeling utterly dejected, he saw a security staff member from the East Nobles’ residence come out. The uniform looked quite sharp, and Gu Fan found himself wanting one.

"Right, I just need the uniform!" With that realization, Gu Fan promptly reached out to Catherine’s subordinates, requesting a very special outfit be made.

Catherine’s subordinate was remarkably efficient, quickly delivering such an outfit to Gu Fan and, just like Catherine, wished him immediate success.

With the clothes he needed now in hand, Gu Fan started observing the daily delivery personnel and where they transferred the cargo.

Since the material circulation of Dark City was under the control of Organization X, this was something Gu Fan could easily find out by asking Catherine.

It turned out Dark City had a cargo hub, where Organization X collected various food and drink items every day to then distribute to the Four Great Nobles’ residences.

Gu Fan finally found an opportunity, though it didn’t mean certain success—realistically, the chances were slim—but he couldn’t think of a better solution for the moment.

Gu Fan wanted Catherine’s help, but she refused, fearing that if Gu Fan’s operation failed and was exposed, it might implicate her as well.

Rebuffed by Catherine, Gu Fan was considerably downhearted. It was a task assigned by Catherine, yet she had provided limited assistance and was utterly determined to stay out of it, severing all ties.

With no alternative, Gu Fan resigned himself to the fact that this was her territory, and he simply had to follow orders.

Donning the specially made clothes, Gu Fan disguised himself to look exactly like the delivery personnel, then headed to the cargo hub, pretending to be another worker there.

However, the cargo hub had strict rules—everyone entering had to register their identity to prevent anyone from clandestinely slipping in and stealing, as Organization X strictly controlled the materials of Dark City.

Even in a deliveryman’s guise, Gu Fan couldn’t enter the cargo hub; with no other options, he had to head back home.

This time, Gu Fan once again requested surveillance footage of the cargo center from Catherine, studying in detail the process of how the goods were transported.

From the footage, he saw vehicles entering from outside Dark City, stopping at the cargo center. The cargo operators would unload the goods box by box and transport them to different warehouses.

Then, people at the cargo center would move these goods according to the needs of the East Nobles to the transfer shelves.

Finally, the delivery vehicles of the East Nobles would arrive at the cargo center and take the goods from the transfer shelves.

The process was straightforward, but Gu Fan thought about how to blend in with the cargo trucks. Once he got in, the rest should be easy.

No, to be precise, it was about mingling with the cargo center, and gradually, a feasible plan began to form in Gu Fan’s mind.

Catherine couldn’t get the security distribution of the East Nobles’ residence, but she did manage to get the layout for the cargo center.

Gu Fan got his hands on the surveillance layout of the cargo center, and upon just one look, he was overwhelmed by the complex security. The cargo center had deployed many cameras to ensure strict control, leaving no blind spots.

Gu Fan immediately abandoned any thoughts of scaling the walls, since cameras covered every possible entry point one could climb over.

Wait, Gu Fan’s eyes lit up, and he smirked, having thought of a good way to evade all the cameras.

He immediately set the plan into motion, estimating that the truck would head to the cargo center in three hours. Gu Fan hurried to the location.

The main entrance of the cargo center required an ID card swipe, and the guards would check the faces of those entering. With so many people coming and going, besides the surveillance, there were many eyes watching, so Gu Fan definitely wouldn’t enter through the main gate.

Gu Fan approached a section of the cargo center’s fence. Although there were many cameras inside, there weren’t many outside, which gave Gu Fan a chance. He walked alongside the fence, unafraid of being recorded.

Reaching an area, Gu Fan listened for any noise on the other side. Finding it clear, he climbed up the wall.

"Please, let me be lucky this time," Gu Fan prayed as he scaled the wall, only to find a camera positioned right below him once he reached the top.

This played right into Gu Fan’s hand. The camera was directly below him, unable to capture his image—vertically aligned with Gu Fan, without any angle to film him.

He had Catherine to thank for the blueprint, which allowed him to know the positions of all the cameras, and after repeated comparisons, he decided this spot was the most suitable.

Gu Fan estimated the position roughly based on the blueprint and hit the jackpot.

When Gu Fan came down the other side of the wall, he stayed right under the camera, which failed to capture his actual entry over the wall.

"Success!" Gu Fan adjusted his clothes and nonchalantly walked away.

Now, the camera showed just another deliveryman passing by—such delivery personnel were commonplace in the area.

The people in surveillance wouldn’t be alarmed at the sight of Gu Fan, assuming he was just another one of the regular delivery staff.

After walking a short distance, Gu Fan didn’t hear any unusual noises. If he’d been discovered, there surely would have been many chasing after him. In other words, he’d successfully infiltrated the cargo center, and the next step was to mingle with the cargo trucks.

"All good!" Gu Fan confirmed it was safe and then quickened his pace towards where the cargo trucks were parked.
