Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1350 Someone Has Been Here
Chapter 1350: Chapter 1350 Someone Has Been Here
Gu Fan once again walked out of the nightclub, he no longer felt anyone tracking him, so a weight lifted from his heart, and he quickened his pace towards the residence of the bespectacled man and the others.
When the bespectacled man, the tall man, the muscleman, and the dancing girl saw Gu Fan returning, they too were relieved.
Gu Fan shook his head, "No, she wasn’t interested in me."
The tall man remarked, "Yeah, because you didn’t agree immediately. In Catherine’s eyes, that’s a refusal. Even if you regret it now, it’s too late."
"Yeah, I do regret not being able to join Organization X a bit," Gu Fan said with a smile, but in reality, he was telling a white lie. If he truly joined Organization X, he might run into someone he knew, which would greatly increase the chances of his identity being exposed. So being rejected by Catherine actually played right into Gu Fan’s hands.
The bespectacled man stepped forward to express his gratitude, "This time, we really owe you one. I wouldn’t have known what to do otherwise."
Gu Fan patted the bespectacled man’s shoulder, indicating it was no big deal.
Before coming here, Gu Fan had considered whether or not to tell them about being followed, but on second thought, since the issue had been resolved, there was no need to worry them.
"You’re okay now, right?" the bespectacled man asked, concerned about Gu Fan’s situation, fearing that the fight might have forced Gu Fan to reveal his identity.
Gu Fan took out an ID card: "Thanks for what you’ve done for me. If it weren’t for this ID card, I wouldn’t have dared to make a move. So this time, you’ve really helped yourself. Good people get good rewards."
Hearing this, the bespectacled man couldn’t help but smile, feeling the sincerity and kindness from Gu Fan. The previous rejection and fear of being dragged down by Gu Fan vanished entirely.
The bespectacled man started to apologize, "Sorry, Gu Fan, because of us, you..."
"Actually, you’ve done so much for me, I should be the one repaying you. So as for tonight’s incident, you shouldn’t feel any burden or guilt." Gu Fan smiled again, patted the bespectacled man’s shoulder, "Fighting for what one loves, for the people worth loving, is the right thing to do. What’s precious is having friends who would go through fire and water for you, so when you find them, cherish them." After saying this, Gu Fan waved his hand and bid farewell.
The others were stunned for a moment, then watched Gu Fan’s hastily departing figure, feeling like he had many untold stories.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Fan returned to his own place. This time, he chose to turn on the lights. Since Tai’s identity was already compromised, he might as well live openly in Dark City as Tai.
Gu Fan took off his clothes and threw them onto the sofa, suddenly feeling that something was off, as if someone had been here.
At first, Gu Fan thought it was just his imagination, that he was overthinking things. But when he started to organize the things on his table, he was surprised to find a strand of hair that wasn’t his—it clearly belonged to a woman.
Leng Le, who had put her hair up in a ponytail, didn’t secure some strands tightly, and, coincidentally, one had been left here.
Since she had sneaked in, Leng Le hadn’t turned on the lights and had used a flashlight for illumination. She’d wiped away her footprints, but she hadn’t noticed the hair she had left behind.
Now Gu Fan was certain that someone had sneaked in while he was away. But who could it be?
Since the lights were on, Gu Fan conducted a thorough search for any trace or clue.
Meanwhile, Leng Le, in the neighboring house, saw Gu Fan turn on the lights and was shocked, wondering why he would suddenly do that. Had something happened?
"Could it be that my earlier conjecture was wrong, and he just wanted to save electricity? Electricity here is quite expensive," Leng Le furrowed her brows, thinking there must be a reason for switching the lights on and off so haphazardly.
"It’s not because I left some trace behind that alerted him, right?" Leng Le thought she had been careful enough that it shouldn’t be the case.
Now Leng Le could only silently pray, hoping that if Gu Fan didn’t notice anything missing, he wouldn’t pursue it further.
In the meantime, Gu Fan had searched high and low without finding any new traces, so he had no choice but to give up. After all, nothing had been taken, so there was no need to worry too much.
Then, Gu Fan started his nightly routine. Washing his face, he looked in the mirror at his bruised self, feeling disheartened. It was so tough to survive here; with strength that he could not showcase, he had been beaten to this state.
"Wait a minute. Could it be that Catherine sent someone to sneak in here and pry into my past, to see if I have any problems?" A sense of panic rose in Gu Fan as he quickly ran into the bedroom to check his cell phone, which was still there.
Gu Fan was frightened at the thought. If it was indeed someone sent by Catherine who had sneaked in and seen the cell phone Gu Fan was hiding, the consequences would be severe.
"Let’s hope I’m not that unlucky!" Gu Fan went to check and saw the phone was still in its place, seemingly untouched.
Not knowing who had sneaked in, if that person discovered a cell phone here and reported it to Organization X, Gu Fan couldn’t bear to imagine the consequences. It looked like another sleepless night filled with anxiety.
What to do? Gu Fan contemplated whether to hide the phone somewhere safe. He weighed the phone in his hand.
Suddenly, a faint fragrance wafted into Gu Fan’s nostrils. He took a good sniff and realized the scent came from the cell phone.
Now, Gu Fan was sure that during his absence, a woman had snuck in and even touched his phone, but whether that woman was one of Catherine’s was yet to be determined.
Gu Fan pondered on the fact that there hadn’t been any issues in his previous outings, so why would someone sneak into his dwelling after his encounter with Catherine? Could this be a coincidence?
At this point, Gu Fan had to prepare for the worst. He expected someone from Organization X to come searching for him concerning the hidden phone, ready to show no mercy. When that time came, Gu Fan would have to fight his way out.
"Wait a second, this fragrance kind of resembles Leng Le’s?" Gu Fan sniffed the scent again and found the idea laughable—it was highly unlikely that he would encounter his ex-girlfriend in such a place.
"Hang on, isn’t there someone next door who is called Sister Leng?" Suddenly, Gu Fan remembered when he was chased by a group overseas. He and Su Hui had hidden in David’s house, not knowing how to fight their way out.
In desperation, Gu Fan had called Leng Le, his ex-girlfriend, for help, and as it turned out, Leng Le was actually living right next door.
Now Gu Fan thought, it couldn’t be such a coincidence happening again, could it? If he and Leng Le were truly that fated, what did it signify? Nonetheless, with Lin Xi in the picture, even if they were fated, there was no possibility for them to rekindle anything.
