Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1349: Refusing to Join Forces
Chapter 1349: Chapter 1349: Refusing to Join Forces
A blonde beauty with blue eyes and a voluptuous figure walked forward, guarded by several bodyguards. Her elegant stride came with just the right amount of sway, and her eyes exuded a devilishly charming aura. Clad in a black dress, she seemed like a witch straight out of hell.
Everyone playing here knew she was Catherine, the one who managed the nightclub, and she also bore the title of a Western noble.
On seeing Catherine, without exception, everyone bowed their heads in fear, afraid that even a single glance would be judged as a grave disrespect. It’s well known that nobles from Organization X act on a whim, and their killing of a person is as simple as crushing an ant.
Those few thugs were already kneeling on the ground, admitting their mistakes and claiming that they had drunk too much and would not offend again.
Catherine paid no attention to the thugs and glanced at the dancing girl who was shivering in the corner.
"Everyone working here belongs to me, and you dared to touch my people," Catherine said with a calm voice filled with anger, scaring the thugs pale, trembling with fear.
Catherine ordered her subordinates to take the thugs away and properly discipline them. As for whether they lived or died, that depended on their own ability to survive.
"Thank you, Lady Catherine, thank you!" the dancer said while helping the man with glasses to his feet.
Catherine simply nodded, "This wasn’t your fault; they provoked the incident. You can go back now."
With those words, everyone felt as if they had been pardoned and quickly left the place.
The dancing girl helped the man with glasses; the muscleman supported the tall man, and Gu Fan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, limbered up his muscles, and walked away on his own, not needing any support.
Catherine briefly looked at Gu Fan’s retreating figure. Despite his limping steps, there was still a masculine air about him that suddenly piqued Catherine’s interest, and she spoke up, "You, the Easterner, wait a moment."
Hearing this, Gu Fan froze, his heart pounding with nervousness, as he did not want to draw the attention of nobles from Organization X at this time.
"What’s your name?" Catherine’s question had to be answered.
Fortunately, Gu Fan had his identity in Dark City well prepared, so he answered, "My name is Tai."
Catherine frowned, "Why aren’t you turning around to face me?"
Gu Fan’s heart skipped a beat. Thinking quickly, he found an excuse, "I was beaten quite badly, and I’m afraid to offend you, Lady Catherine, if I turn around."
"Show me your identification card," Catherine said, and one of her subordinates walked up to Gu Fan, extending a hand firmly demanding the card.
Gu Fan immediately took out his identification card, his heart still filled with worry, afraid the card would reveal any issues.
Catherine’s subordinate carefully checked the card, verified the information against what was on record, confirmed it indeed belonged to Tai, and then handed the card to Catherine for her perusal.
"An Easterner with fairly handsome features," Catherine examined the identification card with some interest.
Gu Fan grew worried. With not many Eastern faces around this place, if Organization X ordered to be wary of them, he might already be hunted all over.
Then, Catherine commanded her people to return the identification card to Gu Fan, and she added, "Your name is Tai, right? You’re quite skilled. How about you join my side?"
Upon hearing this, everyone cast envious glances, for joining Organization X meant no more worries about material needs and no longer having to labor every day.
But Gu Fan was unaware of the situation; he didn’t know that everyone here wanted to join Organization X, so he replied, "I’ll think about it, okay?"
Catherine was stunned. This was the first time someone had rejected her invitation to join.
The man with glasses, the tall guy, and the muscleman all knew that Gu Fan had come here for a special purpose, so they could understand why Gu Fan declined to join Organization X, but the others couldn’t understand at all.
Gu Fan saw the astonished looks from those around him and instantly realized he had given the wrong answer. He quickly corrected himself, "I would love to join Organization X, it would be my honor, but I’m worried that once I join, my few friends won’t have anyone to look after them."
"Oh, is that so? Then I won’t make it difficult for you." With that, Catherine’s expression turned indifferent, and then she turned and walked away.
Nobody saw Catherine’s face change slightly the moment she turned around, seemingly quite displeased with being refused.
The nightclub continued its business, the music started up again, and everyone began to dance, reviving the lively atmosphere.
The muscleman thought Catherine was going to let them off the hook, so he breathed a sigh of relief and suggested that it was best to leave the nightclub as soon as possible, eager to get home and end the day.
However, the moment Gu Fan stepped out of the nightclub, he keenly sensed that someone was following him, which was definitely not a good sign.
The thugs from before should have been too beaten to have any strength left, and even if it were other accomplices of the thugs, they’d likely be hiding and not daring to cause trouble at this moment. Hence, the only possibility for the follower was one of Catherine’s subordinates.
"Fuck, this woman isn’t planning to let me go just because I refused to join, is she?" Gu Fan began to think from another perspective, realizing that if he were someone high and mighty and his invitation to an insignificant person were refused, he’d definitely feel uncomfortable.
But why would Catherine send someone to follow him? Surely she wasn’t really looking for revenge. Such pettiness in her character was alarming.
"What to do? What to do?" Gu Fan thought that a confrontation would only bring more trouble, and if his identity were exposed, it might also bring harm to the few friends he had just made.
After much thought, Gu Fan felt he had no choice. He turned around and went back to the nightclub to see Catherine.
Catherine was surprised by his return and asked, "Why have you come back?"
The music stopped once again, and everyone in the nightclub gathered around, all eyes on Gu Fan’s every move, some even anticipating a spectacle.
Gu Fan immediately put on a very respectful demeanor, "I’ve thought it over, and joining Organization X would be my honor. To work under you, Catherine, is all the more an honor."
Gu Fan had just refused Catherine’s invitation in the presence of so many people, bruising her ego. Now, again in front of so many people, he submitted himself to Catherine’s power.
Catherine smiled faintly without immediately accepting, swirling the drink in her glass while looking at Gu Fan with an amused gaze.
Gu Fan didn’t understand what Catherine meant, and in his extreme anxiety, Catherine actually walked away, leaving him hanging.
"This..." Gu Fan put on a very dejected look, for his foolishness had led to the missed opportunity to join Organization X.
