Chapter 1346: Chapter 1346: Ex-Girlfriend Really Has Fate
In a blink of an eye, Gu Fan had been living in Dark City for seven days. During these days, he would go out for a stroll every evening, gradually familiarizing himself with the environment to plan for his eventual retreat.
Gu Fan discovered that everyone in Dark City possessed an identity card, which was something only those who entered through Dark Door and were registered had.
The last time Hai En ran into Gu Fan, had Gu Fan shown even the slightest bit of irregularity and aroused Hai En’s suspicion, Hai En would have forcefully demanded Gu Fan’s identity card, and then the jig would have truly been up.
It seemed one couldn’t get by without an identity card. Just as Gu Fan was worrying over this, the man with glasses came by once again carrying food and drink and other necessities, which deeply touched Gu Fan.
The man with glasses said, "Don’t thank me. If you want to thank someone, thank Ouyang Jin. He’s the one who sent a lot of supplies, just to take care of you."
"Right, a friend of a friend is also a friend." Gu Fan once again felt that aside from the price increase, Ouyang Jin really did have only good points.
The man with glasses then added, "Ouyang Jin also sent a letter for you. All these supplies are charged to your account. When it comes time to settle the total bill, the price will be increased. Also, you must stay strong, because the account between him and you has not yet been settled."
Hearing this, Gu Fan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. What a true friend, always clear about the accounts.
The man with glasses handed Gu Fan an identity card, which bore the name Tai, but the photo on the card was that of Gu Fan.
"This is..." Gu Fan finally understood the purpose of the man asking for his photo last time.
The man with glasses said, "Without an identity card, you’d easily be exposed here. For your own good, and so as not to implicate us, we helped you get an identity card. This card belonged to the former owner of this house you’re now living in."
Gu Fan got it: "The owner of this house met with trouble, but Organization X doesn’t know, so the identity card can still be used; it just has my photo on it now."
In response, the man with glasses nodded, "I know someone in Organization X who makes identity cards. This time, Ouyang Jin sent a lot of supplies, so I honored that person with the supplies, and he helped change this identity card for you."
"Thanks, I owe you one," Gu Fan thought to himself, thankful for Ouyang Jin. Indeed, he couldn’t do without him in anything.
Gu Fan recalled another matter: "What about the letter I asked you to send out for me?"
The man with glasses gave his assurances, "Lately, we’ve been washing cars for Organization X, and ingeniously, we slipped your letter into a hidden compartment in one of the cars. With many bloodsuckers now eliminated, your letter should be able to safely make it past the Road of Death and reach Ouyang Jin."
"That’s really great, thanks so much," Gu Fan felt a great deal lighter. From the initial discomfort, struggling to move an inch in a strange environment, to now having resolved so many issues, it truly validated the saying, it’s all about who you know when you’re out and about.
"Ouyang Jin mentioned in his letter that you are a man of honor, that even if Organization X discovers you, you won’t reveal our helping you," the man with glasses earnestly looked at Gu Fan, who firmly nodded in response, "Yes, I promise I won’t implicate you guys."
"Let’s hope that’s the case," the man said with a barely convinced look.
Soon after, the man with glasses left the house, and this scene was witnessed by Leng Le next door. So there really was someone there?
With brows furrowed, Leng Le wondered why the man with glasses seemed like just an ordinary person, and why did he not turn on the lights at night? Could it be that the man with glasses was the only one living in the house beside her?
Just to be on the safe side, Leng Le had her subordinates take turns watching the house next door; she wanted to see when the man with glasses would return.
The subordinates followed Leng Le’s orders, rotating every hour, keeping an eye on the house until the sun set.
As the sky darkened, and Leng Le thought another dull day had passed, her subordinate came to report that the man with glasses had not yet returned, but they saw someone else leaving the house next door.
"It turns out there’s more than one living in that house," Leng Le frowned, her curiosity piqued as to who was living next door.
Deciding to stay alert, Leng Le went out onto her balcony, then, using her skill and jumping ability, she leaped directly onto the house next door.
Leng Le easily opened the door, familiar with the task, and sneaked inside to snoop around and uncover her neighbor’s secrets.
Upon entering, she saw the messy state of the place and couldn’t help but remark on how it was just as bad as Gu Fan’s room.
At that moment, Gu Fan wasn’t far away when he suddenly sneezed. It felt like someone was talking about him.
Leng Le, with a sharp eye, quickly rummaged through the room, memorizing where everything she touched had been placed to leave no trace, even tying her hair back for this purpose.
She was astonished to find a cell phone, which upon seeing made her gasp; she knew from the man in the mysterious mask that in Dark City only special phones were allowed, and anyone privately keeping a phone or other communication devices was subject to harsh punishment.
Gu Fan, thinking ahead, hadn’t carried the phone on him, not imagining it would end up in Leng Le’s hands.
"Strange, this phone model is the same as Gu Fan’s." Leng Le didn’t think much of it, assuming it was a coincidence, just the same model.
Curious about the contents, she tried to check the phone but found it was locked. Not knowing the password nor how to crack it, she had no choice but to carefully place the phone back where she found it.
"What on earth are you hiding?" Leng Le’s curiosity grew as she continued to rummage, and in the trash can, she found some torn bags neatly folded and tied, optimizing the use of space in the garbage bin.
This struck Leng Le as unusual; this way of dealing with trash was also like Gu Fan. Could it be that the person living next door was Gu Fan? Wasn’t that too much of a coincidence?
"Wait a minute?" she remembered. Previously, while vacationing abroad and soaking up the local atmosphere, she’d received a distress call from Gu Fan. But Leng Le disregarded it, thinking it would all blow over.
Yet, it turned out that damned Gu Fan was living right next door to Leng Le. What was even more frustrating was that Gu Fan’s enemies, due to mistaking the house, had broken into Leng Le’s residence. What a mess that was.
Leng Le didn’t think it was likely. If she and Gu Fan were that fated, their relationship wouldn’t have turned out this way.
Finding nothing else, Leng Le carefully inspected the surroundings to ensure she hadn’t left any traces. Then, she departed the way she came and returned the same way.
