Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1343: The Invited Guests
Chapter 1343: Chapter 1343: The Invited Guests
The man was strikingly handsome, dressed in a sharp suit, luxury watch, and designer leather shoes—a true picture of a successful gentleman. He was the envy of many, not least of all for the two gorgeous women draped on either arm.
Gu Fan chuckled dryly, recognizing from the man’s attire that he was someone of status, likely a noble from Organization X.
The man’s eyes sparkled with arrogance, "I asked you a question. Why aren’t you answering?"
Gu Fan adopted a look of utter fear and subservience, avoiding eye contact with the man in a convincing portrayal of how a commoner should act in the presence of nobility.
The man rebuked him more sternly, "To question Organization X in this place, what punishment do you deserve?"
"It’s really no use!" Gu Fan lamented internally. He didn’t want trouble, so he played the fool as the situation demanded.
Gu Fan lowered his head, feigning extreme fear, "I’m sorry, I realize my mistake now. I live here, and I just hope to see this place get better. I meant no offense."
"Even if you didn’t, I can still punish you for your offense," the man’s bravado was unmistakable, his posture indicating no intention of letting Gu Fan off easily.
Under normal circumstances, many people would gather to watch the spectacle, but this was Dark City. People steered clear of the nobles of Organization X, opting for safety. Many hid in corners, secretly wringing their hands with anxiety for Gu Fan.
Gu Fan kept his head down, determined not to attract excess attention to his face, also worried that cameras might already be trained on them.
As the man pressed on, one of the women spoke up, "Lord Hai En, don’t stoop to this level. It’s beneath you."
"You’re right, my dear," Hai En replied with a cheerful grin, then waved his hand dismissively, "Off with you. If I catch you spouting nonsense again, I will not be so forgiving."
"Of course, thank you, Lord Hai En. I’ll be on my way," Gu Fan said, fleeing in a panic, his figure resembling a beaten dog.
Hai En once again reveled in his noble status and the delicious sense of power that came with it, swelling with pride.
At that moment, one of his subordinates rushed to report, "Lord Hai En, reliable sources indicate that Helen is on her way back."
"Helen, you let Gu Fan slip away right under your nose, and you have the audacity to return," Hai En said contemptuously, initially uninterested until he heard that Helen had brought back something they could use to negotiate with Gu Fan. That piqued his interest.
Immediately, Hai En ordered his people to intercept Helen and to secure the bargaining chip at all costs.
"But..." his subordinate hesitated, knowing Helen was also noble, protected by her own subordinates. If a fight broke out, the responsibility would be too great.
Seeing the reluctance in his subordinate, Hai En grew angry, "You useless fool, what are you afraid of? Helen has tainted blood, she can’t compare to me. Should there be trouble, I’ll take full responsibility."
"Yes, shall I go at once?" The subordinate hastily picked up the radio to check the current situation.
Soon, the radio confirmed that Helen was nearing the Dark Door and that they would attempt to intercept her there.
"Good. Since it’s come to this, let’s see for ourselves what Helen has brought back to redeem herself," Hai En said with a smirk of anticipation.
His subordinate promptly called for a specialized vehicle, and Hai En sped toward the Dark Door.
At that moment, more than ten members of Organization X surrounded a car, refusing to let it pass. Meanwhile, another five protected it, challenging loudly, "Do you know who this is? You dare to block our way?"
The encircling group maintained their silence, adamant in their blockade, frustrating Qiao Ya and Dong Ni, who were unaccustomed to such treatment.
Unable to bear it any longer, Helen emerged, slamming the car door hard, with one gun pointed at the men, she coldly warned, "If these aren’t direct orders from the higher-ups, then what you’re doing is an act of insubordination. I can shoot you on the spot—I have that right."
The men recoiled in fear, instinctively stepping back at her words.
"One last warning, move aside, or else..." Helen was about to continue when suddenly a car approached head-on.
Frowning, Helen recognized the insignia—it was her adversary, Hai En’s car.
Hai En got out, still flanked by two beauties, his smile feigning false friendship, "Sister Helen, don’t take it out on your subordinates, they’re only following orders. If there’s any dissatisfaction, allow me to apologize."
"I don’t need an apology, just clear the way," Helen said impatiently.
However, Hai En continued to block the path with a smile, "I apologize, Sister Helen, but the task of dealing with Gu Fan has been passed on to us."
Hearing this, Helen was taken aback and pressed, "What? Was this decided by Xue Wang?"
Hai En replied triumphantly, "Indeed, because Xue Wang considered your recent error and your relationship with Gu Fan, he deemed your lineage unsuitable for this task."
"Fine, then chew on this unyielding person all you like. Just don’t come crying to me when you’re all bruised up," Helen said with a disdainful air, again demanding Hai En to move.
But Hai En, seizing more ground, stepped onto the bumper of Helen’s car with a smirk of a petty man proud of his small victory.
Angered, Helen snapped, "What’s the meaning of this? Looking for a fight?"
"Fight? Of course not. I heard you brought back something to negotiate with Gu Fan. I’d like you to hand her over to me," Hai En finished, glancing at Li Shi inside the car, who was truly beautiful.
"Sorry, she’s my friend, not some bargaining chip to negotiate with Gu Fan. You’re mistaken," Helen flatly refused. Hai En was a known womanizer, and if Li Shi fell into his hands, one could barely imagine the torment she’d endure. Any chance of reconciling with Gu Fan would be lost.
However, Helen’s pleas fell on deaf ears. Hai En wouldn’t budge, and his growing interest in Li Shi was evident. After all, beauties like her were rare in Dark City.
As the standoff continued with neither side willing to give way, the upper echelons of Organization X finally spoke through the radio, issuing a command.
Reluctantly, Hai En moved aside. However, his resentful look was akin to a predator eyeing its prey, leaving Li Shi pale with fear.
"Don’t worry, you’re my guest, and I’ll ensure your safety." Although Helen assured her, the surrounding atmosphere provided Li Shi no comfort. She was acutely aware that she had entered the lion’s den.
