Chapter 1091: Chapter 1091: Hunter’s Guild
The matter was over, and Lin Yue returned to the underground entertainment world, his mood still unsettled. He poured himself a drink then downed it in one gulp.
At that moment, a hunter came over. Seeing Lin Yue looking very irritable, he asked, "What’s wrong? You have blood on you. Did something go wrong?"
Lin Yue gave a bitter smile, took another drink, and after catching his breath, he began to tell the hunter about what had happened that night.
After hearing the story, the hunter was somewhat surprised, "I didn’t expect Sister Hong to be such a scheming woman. No wonder she could take that position. Boss Hong lost to her not unjustly. What are you planning to do next?"
"I don’t know?" It was only now that Lin Yue realized how terrifying a woman Sister Hong was. Previously plotting against competitors and taking over Brother Jin’s position--such things were common within the gang.
However, this time, Lin Yue witnessed Sister Hong’s methods firsthand, how she, as a subordinate, had taken down her own boss, akin to an ancient minister committing regicide and usurping the throne.
The hunter offered some advice, "Alright, don’t think too much. At least you are on Sister Hong’s side, and not her enemy. And since Sister Hong has now replaced Boss Hong, she’ll definitely be busier with a lot more to handle. She’ll need people like you to help her even more."
Lin Yue thought the advice made sense, felt a bit more relaxed, nodded, then walked away after taking one more drink.
Watching Lin Yue’s weary figure, the hunter reaffirmed something, that although Lin Yue belonged to the gang, his nature wasn’t bad; he was merely helpless in his situation.
"This gang is really getting more interesting," mused the hunter. Working here with an easygoing attitude, besides mentoring Lin Yue, he was curious to see what else would unfold.
Suddenly, the hunter felt a sharp pain in his chest, his old injury flaring up, causing his brows to furrow tightly as he was reminded of the time he had been defeated by the mysterious masked person.
Truth be told, since the hunter had become skilled and began hunting vampires, he had never been defeated, sometimes even feeling invincible. However, after coming to this city, that changed with the appearance of very powerful individuals like the big boss, Zhuo Hang, Qian Feng, shaking him beyond description.
The hunter had a premonition there would be even tougher guys to face, and when that time came, perhaps Lin Yue’s assistance would be necessary. Or with Lin Yue as his protégé, he could take the risk without worrying about the legacy ending.
After tidying up the surroundings, the hunter stepped out of the entrance of the underground entertainment world carrying a bag of trash, into the empty, dark alley exuding a sinister vibe. But the hunter didn’t pay it any mind, tossed the trash into the bin, and as he turned to leave, he suddenly sensed something.
Standing behind him was a woman in a black trench coat, hands in her pockets, gazing severely at the hunter’s back as if questioning him.
"What do you want with me? If it’s not about vampires, then please leave," the hunter said without turning around, aware of who was behind him and unceremoniously asking her to leave.
The woman snorted coldly, "I didn’t expect the first hunter to be hiding out here working. Do you dislike seeing me that much?"
"How should I put it, our philosophies don’t align. We should each go our own way," the hunter finally turned around, looked at the beautiful face, and sensed how heartbroken her gaze was.
The woman spoke angrily, "I don’t know what has happened recently, but you don’t need to be this upset with me. Do you realize how many people we’ve lost fighting vampires? We used to chase the vampires together, and now the vampires are hunting us."
To this, the hunter let out a bitter smile, "I’ve said it before; you rely on me too much. You think everything will be fine with me around and don’t train properly or work earnestly. And what I can’t accept is that you, for the sake of profit, won’t cooperate with each other."
The woman began to explain as well, "We’re all risking our lives. Wanting to earn more money is understandable. Not everyone has the capabilities you do."
"There are many ways to make money. If you think it’s too dangerous, you don’t have to chase vampires," the hunter grew angrier, raising his voice, "I could have tracked down the vampire stronghold, but you took money from another place and agreed to take care of their vampires first, ruining my plans."
The woman tried to justify again, "We’ve explained this. We need funds, we need to purchase weapons and equipment to fight against the vampires."
The hunter let out a disdainful sound, "You’re doing it on purpose. You just don’t want me to find the vampire stronghold because you’re afraid I’ll kill all the vampires. That way, you can’t make money by hunting them anymore."
"How could you look at us like that?" The woman was shocked and couldn’t believe these words were coming from the hunter.
The hunter looked uninterested, "Enough, I don’t want to argue with you. I’ve decided to live in this city for a long time. I don’t plan to return to your side. So, if you don’t have anything else, you can leave."
Seeing the hunter about to return to the underground entertainment world, the woman followed him directly, "We’ve just received reliable information. There’s a big movement of vampires, and it seems they’re coming to this city."
Hearing this, the hunter paused, then turned and looked earnestly at the woman, "Have you found out why? Why are the vampires coming to this city?"
The woman shook her head, "The exact details are still unclear, but it is said that a batch of vampires has been secretly brought to the city, seemingly targeting someone."
The hunter’s first thought was of Gu Fan, Su Hui, and Lin Xi, so he added, "If you get any reliable information, please notify me immediately."
"I can notify you, but you must at least be one of us," the woman set a condition, but the hunter rejected it with a scoff, "You’ve come to this city because you took a job, you’re working for money. If I’m not mistaken, you want to complete the task and minimize casualties, and I am the only one who can help you. So, in exchange, I need information, but I’m no longer one of you. We can only say we’ll help each other with this matter."
Seeing the hunter’s insistence, the woman didn’t know what else to say, "Fine, let’s say this is cooperation for now. However, I still hope you can consider returning to the Hunter’s Guild. We really need you."
"Unless the Hunter’s Guild changes its ways, I’m not going back," he said, showing her out figuratively with an attitude that made the atmosphere very awkward, while the woman, sensing the mood, left the underground entertainment world.
