Chapter 101 - 93: Fall

Chapter 101: Chapter 93: Fall

However, what Bennett had not expected was that when the aftershocks of the "Destruction Thunder" inscribed on the scroll had dissipated, two figures were standing in the hazy smoke.

"Not... Not dead?" Bennett blinked in disbelief. Although he was ready to deliver the coup de grâce, he did not believe that Lucien and Maelbely had survived the witchcraft attack just now.

After all, that was his last resort, and to ensure that the effective killing range of the witchcraft included Lucien and Maelbely, he had even sacrificed Fia’s life.

You see, she was an absolutely loyal Third-level Wizard Apprentice who had been cooperating with him for many years, perfectly in sync. Her value was tremendously high to him, not to mention that he had also expended a treasured Sorcery Scroll for this killing move.

If only Maelbely had survived, Bennett could still understand, since just now her aura, though somewhat violent and unstable, reached the level of a Formal Wizard. Perhaps she used some special method to preserve her life through the attack.

But what about Lucien?

If he remembered correctly, Lucien had been in a precarious situation not long ago within the academy, even needing to kill a Second-level Wizard Apprentice to prove his ability to defend himself, ranking him among the weaker Third-level Wizard Apprentices.

Yet now, Lucien looked even better off than Maelbely standing next to him, appearing to be hardly injured at all.

This was the "Destruction Thunder" known for its ferocious attacks. Even among the formal witchcraft, it is considered one of the most potent, to the extent that even Formal Wizards mostly evade it rather than withstand it.

Yet Lucien had withstood it.

"Could it be... he made a breakthrough inside the relic?" Bennett glanced uncertainly at Lucien, but he quickly dismissed this thought.

After all, from the vast amount of information he had, no Formal Wizard should be able to enter this relic!

However, Bennett didn’t have much time to ponder now, for every second he delayed was a second more for Lucien and Maelbely to recuperate. He had to use the advantage created by the just-released witchcraft to directly kill these two toughest opponents.

"Fortunately, I had a backup plan." Lucien looked down at his chest where the witchery pendant was now destroyed, let out a sigh, and then took out a tube of perfect-grade recovery potion from his Space Ring and drank it.

The moment the Chief Maid, Fia, had charged to engage him, he sensed something amiss, but he was entangled by her, unable to use witchcraft like Shadow Stealth instantly.

So when he sensed Bennett unleashing the powerful Sorcery Scroll, Lucien not only triggered the pre-prepared witchcraft model "Moon Curtain·Modified" but also activated the defensive witch tool he had switched to before this mission.

Together, they reduced the destructive power of that terrifying witchcraft by more than ninety percent.

It was also fortunate that the Sorcery Scroll was released by a Third-level Wizard Apprentice like Bennett, which meant the duration of the witchcraft was short. If the witchcraft had lasted longer, allowing the effect of Moonlight Transformation to wear off during the duration, Lucien would have been in trouble.

Compared to Lucien, the fairy leader Maelbely looked much worse off.

Her body had changed to the appearance of a wooden giant; it was clear she had just managed to withstand the barrage from the Destruction Thunder by transforming into a tree demon body.

However, Maelbely’s body was covered in dense wounds, exposing layers of lignified structure. The deepest wound even revealed the pure white tree core on her back.

If Maelbely had not been in her tree demon form but in her own fairy body, that wound would likely have been fatal, piercing right through her heart.

But even for a tree demon, a creature known for its tough body, the injury was severe and would require a long time to heal properly.

Yet now, Maelbely clearly had no time.

After all, she could only emit the strength of a Formal Wizard by burning her Bloodline, and under the current severe injuries, the suppressing bloodline curse, momentarily held at bay by burning her Bloodline, was already showing signs of backlash. At this point, let alone fighting, it was questionable whether she could suppress the curse in her body by her power alone.

Like now, creepy lines like black thin snakes were creeping over the surface of her tree demon body; those curse lines, like maggots clinging to bones, were on the verge of erupting.

"My lord!" Several half-fairy survivors had eyes filled with terror and despair.

Nevertheless, even more desperate than them was Maelbely herself, for she saw Bennett rushing towards her, clearly coming to finish her off.

She didn’t look at Lucien, knowing that this enemy was unlikely to help her. After all, not only was she a competitor, but to Lucien, she was also from an Alien Race.

As she watched Bennett rush towards her, her eyes held a trace of despair, but the next moment, that despair turned into madness.

Whoosh—She flew backward, even triggering her injuries during the retreat, but she didn’t care.

Her target was the willow man, still commanding the fire spirits to attack.

"Not good," Bennett muttered as he watched Maelbely’s hasty retreat, realizing the opponent’s intention.

But at this moment, he was unable to stop Maelbely, especially since she had a "helper" coming to her aid.

"Hahahaha..." Maelbely’s laughter was eerie. At that moment, caught by the willow man’s flaming hand, her body had already ignited those fiercely yellow flames.

Unlike the other Wizard Apprentices who were forcibly captured, Maelbely had willingly used her own spiritual power and body as kindling for this special flame, accelerating her transformation into a fire spirit.

"If I die, none of you will have it easy," Maelbely said with a cold glance at Bennett and Lucien. Her body burned faster, shrinking rapidly during the combustion process.

Even in her final moments, Maelbely no longer cared about her own bloodline curse and forcefully broke through the bottleneck that had troubled her all her life.

Boom—

The next moment, Maelbely’s body exploded, transforming into dots of yellow with hints of red. The flames reassembled into a fire spirit slightly larger than the others, composed of yellow flames with traces of blood-red.

This transformed fire spirit of Maelbely now exuded a genuine aura of a Formal Wizard, and even the willow man under its "charge," exuded a hint of blood-red in its yellow flames.

"My lord!"

"No!"

The surviving half-fairy’s face showed despair as Maelbely completed her transformation into a fire spirit, plunging their hearts into the abyss along with her fall.

"Screech—" At that moment, the fire spirit, now at the level of a Formal Wizard, burst forth from its fiery birthplace, screaming venomously as it rushed toward Bennett. It’s inner hatred fully ignited, it seemed like a demon that had struggled out of Hell to drag its past enemies down with it.

"I... I can’t die..." Bennett, watching the approaching fire spirit, had an unwilling look in his eyes. His body surfaced with thin threads, along with some Witch Tools taken from the storage space, forming a defensive barrier.

But just the high temperature brought by the approaching fire spirit was enough to slightly twist his hair, emitting a smell almost like burning feathers.

In that moment, many memories floated through Bennett’s mind.

There was his excitement and pride when, as a young boy, he outperformed his family peers during the talent assessment.

There was the tension when, as a Second-level Wizard Apprentice, he first left the academy for an adventure, designed to trap his peers including Fia, and turned them into his most loyal servants through puppetry secret techniques.

There was the thrill of being acknowledged as the next heir of his family.

And the anger and frustration from when someone secretly tampered with his chamber while he was attempting promotion, causing his realm to fall.

And not least, the trembling hands of his father, giving him his savings before he left.

"Father... I might have disappointed you," Bennett silently said to himself. As the defensive wall in front of him was about to collapse, his expression calmed.

Remorse? Maybe a little, but he had done everything he could. And the rest was just a matter of insufficient luck.

Facing the fire spirit, which was about to crash into him, Bennett closed his eyes.

Bang—

At the last moment, Bennett detonated his Spirit Sea. Suddenly, wild waves of spiritual power formed shockwaves, causing even the fire spirit’s body flames to slightly twist and ripple, dimming its body significantly.

"Screech—" However, possibly because the hatred from her life had now fully transferred to the fire spirit, even after the explosion, it still relentlessly charged at Bennett’s remains, with its flames incinerating any remains directly.

Having done all this, the fire spirit now turned its vengeful face toward its other enemy, Lucien, more ferocious than ever within the flames.

Whoosh— But the next moment, it dove back into the body of the willow man, within the blazing flames of its thoracic cavity, beginning to draw the willow man’s power to heal its recent injuries.

Perhaps because the fire spirit had reached the level of a Formal Wizard, helping it repair its body, but the willow man was still just at the peak of a Third-level Wizard Apprentice, so the recovery speed of the fire spirit was somewhat slow.

Seizing this time, Lucien did not hesitate and quickly conjured a moon blade, directly killing the two rampaging fire spirits still on the field.
