Chapter 518: The Calm Before the Storm
Chapter 518: Chapter 518: The Calm Before the Storm
"In actuality... it isn’t in my possession," Chen Ke shook his head.
Pankia remained silent for a while, as Li Moyang had no idea what this green Holy Diamond they spoke of was, and could only look at them blankly.
"You didn’t sell it, did you?" Pankia asked again.
"I was robbed," Chen Ke didn’t beat about the bush.
"Opportunity City really is a dangerous place, even you got robbed," Pankia said.
"What is this green Holy Diamond you’re talking about? Would you mind telling me?" Li Moyang asked, cradling his glass.
Pankia and Chen Ke exchanged a look, pondering whether to inform Li Moyang about the green Holy Diamond. Chen Ke, after thinking for a bit, took the lead.
"It’s one of the Holy Relics, no different from the others, only that it’s green," Chen Ke said.
"That thing... is there anything special about it, Pankia?" Li Moyang looked at Pankia.
"It’s more valuable than the rest because it’s rare. Yasla really wants it," Pankia said, continuing along the lines of what Chen Ke inferred.
"Oh, I see, so what you mean is, have Chen Ke spread the news to lure Yasla’s people to him," Li Moyang spoke up, then downed his drink in one gulp.
"How much do you know about Yasla?" Chen Ke inquired.
"Not much, but I know they are all monsters, and I’m curious, why does the Administration Bureau of Opportunity City tolerate them hiding in the city," Li Moyang said.
"I don’t care what the Administration Bureau thinks. I just want to find Yasla. Since you are no help, I will take my leave," Chen Ke stated and turned to leave.
"Wait a second, Chen Ke. Just wait. Even if you don’t have the diamond, you can make Yasla believe you do," Pankia suddenly said.
Chen Ke stopped, guessing Pankia’s intention.
"That’s right, Chen Ke, if they care so much about that thing, even a lie should be able to draw them out," Li Moyang also suggested.
"The only key point is... were you robbed by Yasla? Are you looking for them to settle the score?" Pankia inquired.
"No, someone else robbed me, but I have some personal grudges with Yasla," Chen Ke clarified.
"Um... I’m feeling like the situation in Opportunity City is getting more complicated," Pankia remarked.
"Maybe I could make a deal with Yasla, but how can I let them know?" Chen Ke huffed, hands in pockets.
He had no means to send a message to Yasla. Was he supposed to hang a sign around his neck and parade through the streets?
"I can help you with that," Li Moyang declared.
Pankia glanced at Li Moyang as Sleery poured him another glass of wine.
"I, on behalf of Wuan Heavy Industries, will host a secret auction and then deliberately leak the details..." Li Moyang suggested.
"Careful with that display... you might get burned, I’ve worked with Yasla and those freaks before, I know exactly what they’re like," Pankia said, visibly agitated.
"Are you willing to help me to this extent?" Chen Ke asked.
"Considering you helped me get rid of Lin Yaying, of course, there’s an additional condition," Li Moyang stated.
Chen Ke knew what Li Moyang’s condition was.
"I’ll definitely take care of this matter for you, but you have to join in my little plan... How does that sound?" Li Moyang offered.
Chen Ke gave Li Moyang a meaningful look, then turned his gaze to Sleery and Pankia, sat down in front of the sofa, and said in a grave voice, "Then let’s hear it, this plan."
...
"Ugh... ah..."
Diana slowly opened her eyes to a snow-white ceiling above her, the softness of a mattress beneath her.
At this moment, she lay in a small room, as a bird flew past the window, and the bustling sound of traffic on the streets below was somehow reassuring.
She was puzzled for a moment, then drew back the blanket covering her and tried to lift her upper body a bit to check her injuries.
She found herself undressed, wounds all over her body bandaged up, with the abdominal wound still causing a faint pain.
Was this a hospital?
Diana wanted to get out of bed, but she was too weak, unable to muster any strength in her limbs. After several attempts, she lay back down.
Several speculations emerged in her mind. Could it be that Yasla was assumed dead after her abduction, so her body was dumped in the wilderness, and later she was rescued by a passing vehicle?
Or perhaps Yasla’s people had taken her to the hospital? Diana shook her head, discarding this guess.
Footsteps sounded from the corridor outside the door. Diana quickly covered herself with the blanket and closed her eyes, quietly waiting.
Creak...
The wooden door of the ward emitted a noise characteristic of an iron door. A clang as if a large lock was being opened, a woman pushed the door and entered.
"Diana?" A familiar female voice called Diana’s name.
She slowly opened her eyes and to her surprise, standing by her bed was Lucina. Lucina was wearing denim shorts and a white tank top, her hair tied in a messy ponytail, with a gun holster strapped to her thigh.
"Lucina?! How... when did you find me?" Diana asked in surprise.
"You’re lucky. Chen Ke thought you might be in danger, so he had me follow you," Lucina said with a smile.
"What? Have you been following me?" Diana asked, puzzled.
"Yasla’s people appeared mid-way, I had to shake them off before tracking you down, then I found you had an accident," Lucina settled into a chair at the head of the bed.
"Where is Chen Ke? Where is he?" Diana asked.
"I don’t know, I have to go find him. He has something I need... has he talked to you about that thing?" Lucina inquired.
Diana looked at Lucina with confusion, not understanding what she was talking about.
"I lost something, he took it. He said he would return it to me, but now he’s gone," Lucina explained.
"I... I don’t know what that is," Diana said.
"An Administration Bureau agent doesn’t know? Why did you approach Chen Ke? Love or a partnership?" Lucina pressed further.
"Lucina, what’s wrong with you?" Diana sensed something was amiss.
"The Divine Heart Fragment, did he show it to you?" Lucina asked.
"You’re not Lucina... who are you?" Diana’s gaze grew sharp.
Lucina grabbed Diana’s neck and yanked her up from the bed into mid-air; the blanket slipped off Diana, and she gripped Lucina’s wrist, the strangulation forcing her tongue to loll slightly.
"Uh... ugh..."
Diana’s legs swung around seeking the ground, but she could only flail in the air.
"Tell me! Where is the Divine Heart Fragment!" Lucina roared, her eyes turning orange-yellow, pupils slitting like a cat’s.
"I bought a watch last year..." Diana struggled to say, her eyes rolling back, saliva dribbling from the corner of her mouth.
Lucina’s body began to slowly transform; her skin turned exceedingly pale, with purple lines creeping along her right arm up to the right side of her body. Lucina’s appearance was completely stripped away, leaving a pale woman holding Diana.
She wore a white robe, unfastened at the front, barefoot, and her long black hair fell to the ground. Around her neck was a horrendous gash, as if her throat had been slashed.
Correspondingly, the surroundings changed as well. What was a warm hospital room was now a cold, dark chamber; the window had disappeared out of thin air, and the wooden door had turned into a rusty iron one.
The woman’s beauty was devastating, yet there was something profoundly eerie about her. Diana, clutching her wrist, could not feel any warmth.
"What is your relationship with Chen Ke?" the woman asked. Releasing her grip, she dropped Diana to the floor, where she collapsed, gasping, the bandage on her wound seeping blood.
"I have nothing to do with him..." Diana said.
"Why were you in Lucina’s car?" the woman asked.
"I stole it..." Diana replied.
"I saw from your ID, you are from the Administration Bureau, your lies won’t deceive me," the woman countered.
"Believe what you want..." Diana scoffed, turning her face away.
The woman took a deep breath and vanished into a phantom, her voice echoing in the cell, "Leave her to you. You have three days to extract from her body the location of the Divine Heart Fragment and Chen Ke."
From the cell’s shadowy corners, three women dressed in cheongsams stepped out.
Their faces covered in sheer veils, they wore black, blue, and red, their skin was pallid and lifeless. The one in the red cheongsam appeared to suffer from a grave illness, hunched and moving with difficulty and pain.
"Yes... Lady Reflection..." they intoned respectfully.
