Chapter 433: Axe, Monster, Corridor

Chapter 433: Chapter 433: Axe, Monster, Corridor

Chen Ke carefully examined the ax in his hand, it was not a Holy Relic, yet it could inflict damage on Spiritual Monsters, which was obviously illogical.

The ax was heavy, Chen Ke weighed it, and found it to be about as heavy as the Moonlight Greatsword. The ax blade had some dense grooves on it, filled and solidified with blood.

Cloth was wrapped around the handle of the ax, and upon closer inspection, one could see there was a slide rail in the middle of the grip. Undeniably, this was a special custom-made ax, a weapon unique to Secret Keepers.

Chen Ke pocketed his pistol in his coat pocket and grasped the ax handle with both hands. He tried to extend the grip like Ax Brother did, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get the slide rail to operate.

He had no choice but to turn the ax over and examine it closely, reasoning that such a telescoping mechanism wouldn’t merely operate on brute strength alone, there had to be a switch or latch to lock it in place, otherwise, it couldn’t maintain stability in its two forms during intense battle.

At last, Chen Ke found a trigger-like catch at the bottom of the grip.

With his right thumb, he pressed the catch, pulling the upper part of the handle outward with his left hand, and with a "click!" the short-handled ax instantly became a long-handled ax.

Correspondingly, the button at the bottom of the handle was fixed at an angle.

Chen Ke briefly studied how the ax should be used, in a single-handed form, it should just be mindless hacking, while in a two-handed state, it could be spun for enjoyment.

There were guns in this era, but Secret Keepers still insisted on using melee weapons, certainly not just for looks, there had to be some other reason.

An action performed by Ax Brother caught Chen Ke’s eye just now—he had dripped blood on the ax.

A small glass vial, which held the blood, lay on the floor. Chen Ke picked it up to take a look. The tiny bottle wasn’t very big, about the height of a thumb and as thick as a little finger, and could only hold a bit of blood.

There was some blood left in the vial that hadn’t been poured out. He dipped his little finger into it, then held it up to his face for scrutiny.

As expected, there was no telling anything from it; after all, he wasn’t an expert in this field. He could only suck on it to draw some conclusions.

Of course, Chen Ke didn’t plan to suck on his own little finger. He wiped his hand on his body, then picked up the ax and walked towards the door.

The walls and floor no longer spewed that blood-red kind of creatures, and even with Spiritual Vision activated, he couldn’t see the outlines of those things.

The room from the recent battle looked like a study in a mansion, but after passing through this door, Chen Ke came to a corridor.

The interior of this house was disorganized, the links between rooms made no sense, the corridor was like reused materials found in many second-rate games, serving only to connect rooms.

He saw an envelope on the floor ahead. Chen Ke drew his pistol with his left hand, and slowly walked towards the envelope, lifting it with the ax, cautiously probing it.

Only after confirming it was not a trap, did he squat down and take the envelope in his hand.

The brown paper envelope was sealed with red wax. With a "snap," Chen Ke pried open the seal to take out the letter inside.

"Ever since I first laid eyes on her, I haven’t been able to forget that girl. Her golden hair was like a wheat field under the afternoon sun, her warm smile seemed capable of melting the glaciers of the Antarctic. It took me great effort to learn her name, Katherine Montoya. Ah, the goddess of my heart, I must pursue her. Can you help me find out more about her background? Is she really the daughter of that Baron?"

The letter was signed by Mox, without adding the title of Baron. It seemed that at the time Mox pursued Katherine, he wasn’t yet a Baron, just a slightly famous doctor.

Chen Ke folded the letter, put it back into the envelope, and tucked it into his coat pocket. He continued forward, coming into a room that resembled a living room.

There was a double bed against the wall of the room, and on one side of the window, a row of bloody handprints scurried across it; Chen Ke felt something was following it.

He leaned in to look at the double bed, noticing a large bloodstain in the middle of the white sheets. Interestingly, the bloodstain wasn’t dried up; it looked like a small Blood Pool, bubbling and gurgling.

"What the hell is this?" No information appeared within Chen Ke’s field of vision.

As Chen Ke watched, the bloodstain slowly expanded, with more and more blood gathering at its center, as if something beneath the bed was spurting water.

Chen Ke bent down to peer under the bed, but there was nothing on the floor.

By now, the blood on the bed had accumulated to an exaggerated level, dripping down the edges of the sheets.

He got up and started backing away slowly. As the bed continued to seep blood, turning the sheets completely red, Chen Ke had a bad feeling.

Just then, a heart-wrenching scream emerged from the center of the Blood Pool, like a woman being tormented and wailing.

Four pale arms reached out from the center of the Blood Pool, with sharp claws grasping the edge of the bed. From the center, a tress of black hair began to float up.

Chen Ke, holding a large axe, knew this thing was very likely the same entity that had dismembered Thor. He didn’t wait for the creature to fully emerge and swung hard at one of its arms.

With the quick rise and fall of the axe, a pale arm sprayed blood as it fell to the floor. The screams grew even more miserable. At that moment, a ghastly, contorted face burst from the Blood Pool, and a pallid body followed, lunging at Chen Ke joyfully.

...

Chen Ke was prepared. He powered off his left calf, slid aside in a swift motion, and evaded to one side.

The creature slammed into the wall with a thud, its black hair sweeping across the floor and walls with the blood like a mop.

"So weak!" Chen Ke couldn’t help but voice it out, noticing the constantly increasing lifespan at the corner of his vision.

This thing was probably just an ordinary woman twisted by Spiritual Energy, not even a Transcendent mutated individual, only capable of bullying Secret Keepers at most.

Chen Ke tossed a one-hour dose of the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun with his left hand toward the monster. Blue light flickered as the Magic Long Spear pierced the creature in two and blasted a huge hole in the wall.

The monster was instantly annihilated, not even leaving a soul behind, and the hole in the wall strangely showed flesh and tissues, oozing fresh blood like a wound.

The floor began to undulate in waves, the walls around him twisting and squeezing irregularly. A bizarre noise echoed in the room, sounding like human humming.

Chen Ke leaped to the door, attempting to open it. As expected, it was locked.

He pulled out a Model 67 pistol and fired at the doorknob, smashing the lock, then kicked the door open with a fierce kick and rushed into the next hallway.

The sound of the door closing heavily came from behind. Chen Ke lay on the ground, looking back to see the door had disappeared, leaving only an endlessly long corridor.
