Chapter 320: Chapter 320 Speechless Abyss

Chen Ke felt a tearing pain in his lungs as his broken ribs deeply pierced his internal organs. The squid’s strong, snake-like tentacles tightly constricted him, rendering him immobile.

He wasn’t dead yet.

Humans aren’t that easy to kill, as long as critical spots aren’t directly damaged, like having one’s head twisted off... Multiple injuries could at least be endured for some time.

Moreover, Chen Ke’s life countdown automatically consumed his lifespan to restore his physical strength, which, in this situation, felt more like a torture.

Chen Ke had watched some American comics before, and he was deeply impressed by two superheroes—not for their power or good looks, but for their extraordinary abilities, which, upon contemplation, seemed quite terrifying.

One was Deadpool, and the other was Wolverine.

Both heroes possessed visibly self-healing abilities, capable of regenerating even severed arms. However, Chen Ke had never envied these abilities, as he had pondered several questions more than once.

If Wolverine were locked in a cage and sunk to the bottom of the sea, would he perpetually switch between drowning and reviving?

If Deadpool were dismembered and his limbs placed in different, confined boxes, how would he regenerate? Would eight Deadpools grow from the boxes and irrationally burst through them?

Many settings in superhero comics don’t hold up under scrutiny, revealing numerous flaws upon deeper thought.

Why, beneath this icy sea surface, as his body was being squeezed dry, would Chen Ke think of such trivial matters?

Because, damn it, his abilities seemed no different from Wolverine and Deadpool’s, and the predicament he found himself in was coincidentally similar to the aforementioned scenarios.

If Chen Ke were torn in half, would the life countdown allow his lower half to regrow himself... or the upper half?

If it were the lower half... then, if he still had consciousness, would he see another self standing up? Who would he truly be in the end...?

Even without considering that question, now that Chen Ke was trapped at the bottom of the sea by a giant squid, would he fall into a cycle of drowning and reviving?

No... That wouldn’t happen, because each death would require a reduction from his life timer... Eventually, his remaining lifespan wouldn’t cover the cost of revival.

"Glub, glug, glug..." Chen Ke cursed.

But at the same time, Chen Ke also realized he didn’t actually need to breathe...

Even though water continuously flooded his lungs, creating an extremely uncomfortable sensation, he didn’t feel suffocated from the lack of oxygen.

The pain came from the damage caused by the tentacles’ squeeze and the swelling sensation of water filling his body, while the feeling of suffocation was just a psychological effect of Chen Ke’s mind.

His body was originally that of a dead man... and the dead don’t need to breathe.

Also, at that moment, his injuries began to heal. Despite the limited space, his crushed organs and broken ribs were restored.

"I wonder if it can be used in water..." Chen Ke thought secretly as he stretched out his right hand and opened the palm.

Ash of An Helei...

Witch Fire ignited beneath the surface of the sea.

Chen Ke’s right palm lit up the dark underwater world like a torch, turning orange-red, with bubbles continuously streaming from his hand.

They were oxygen bubbles formed by the extinguishing of the flame, causing the surrounding water to boil from the thousand-degree heat.

He pressed his hand against the squid’s tentacles—cold, slimy, and disgustingly slippery.

Chen Ke’s right palm acted like a high-temperature cutter, instantaneously making a large bloody hole in the slippery tentacle. Before he could unleash more heat, the tentacle he was holding loosened and let go.

Chen Ke felt currents swirling around him, and even though he couldn’t see, he sensed a massive tentacle moving beside him.

He extended his right hand to illuminate and saw his own orientation; the direction of the bubbles was downward, meaning Chen Ke’s position was head downwards.

At the seabed, it was hard to notice being upside down without visual bearings, making other senses barely useful.

A siphon current pulled Chen Ke along, spun him around several times as he recognized the surroundings by the sole light from his right hand; he then saw a red eyeball watching him from meters away.

That eyeball glittered with a dim red light, and its protruding black crystal made it markedly prominent in the red socket. Although it was merely a squid, Chen Ke somehow perceived indifference in its gaze.

It wasn’t until then that Chen Ke noticed something important—he didn’t feel any murderous intent from the squid.

It seemed ever since Bader appeared, Chen Ke had started encountering opponents from whom he couldn’t absorb any murderous aura.

He didn’t believe there was any connection; perhaps it was just that Chen Ke’s range of activity was expanding, and he was encountering more people and situations, leading to unprecedented scenarios.

Maybe some creatures simply couldn’t have their murderous intent absorbed? If so, they must share something in common. What could it be?

Chen Ke’s right hand formed a blue halo of a soul gun.

"Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle..." He was actually cursing, "Go to hell!"

He left himself only one hour of life, funneling the rest into enhancing his Skill, nearly face-to-face as he pierced the squid’s eyeball through and through.

The surrounding sea area turned deep red for a moment, and the huge blue soul gun illuminated the seabed, bright as daylight for those short two seconds.

In those two seconds, Chen Ke saw the true form of the squid, and it frightened him into gurgling gasps.

For he saw that the squid was not as he imagined; it was a large mass resembling a human brain, with two eyeballs awkwardly placed on top and eight large tentacles with suckers extending from the base.

Most terrifying was the larger human-like body beneath that brain...

The two seconds of light vanished in a flash; Chen Ke couldn’t gauge how large the body was, but compared to a ship, even just a squid’s head was comparable...

Regardless of what it was, now it was dead. Chen Ke’s vision didn’t pop up with any information box, leaving him completely clueless about what it was.

The water calmed down, and Chen Ke felt a heavy object slowly sinking beside him—it seemed it really was dead.

With nothing gained, this creature was like an unspoken calamity that, once defeated, quietly descended into the seabed, leaving Chen Ke wandering in the water with just one hour of life left.
