This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!
Chapter 319: Going into Business

Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Going into Business

"Now is not the time for stories, just tell me straight up what that thing down there is," Chen Ke said, having no patience to research what Nathan had done before.

"To put it bluntly, that giant squid down there... it’s no longer just any giant squid... it... um..." Nathan began, seemingly recalling something, his expression grew complex.

Chen Ke caught the nuance, Nathan had referred to the squid as "he" not "it."

"You mean to say... that thing used to be your... friend?" Chen Ke asked.

In this world, such things were not impossible... Anything infected by Spiritual Energy could become deformed, just like the toads in the sewers and those starved people.

"It would be simple if he were just my friend... but no... in fact, we met while searching for the lost city in Antarctica... he always wanted to kill me on the way..." Nathan said.

"I get it... your relationship with him is like that of Indiana Jones..." Chen Ke immediately understood.

Nathan was a treasure hunter, and the guy turned into a squid was probably like the ever-wealthy, always one step ahead villain in adventure movies...

"Nathan... that ancient city behind the Antarctic mountain range... does it really exist?" Laura asked, clearly more interested in this.

"You wouldn’t believe it, Laura, it’s just too bad I left my camera behind while escaping..." Nathan said with a smile.

At that moment, eight tentacles with large suction cups surged out from the sea, surrounding the entire ship, each one conservatively estimated to be over ten meters long, thick enough for two adults to embrace.

The tentacles writhed on the surface of the water like sea snakes, as Laura drew her pistols and fired at the dancing appendages.

With the crisp sound of gunfire, the brass casings fell onto the deck, she wielded modified USP pistols, of course, still firing standard .45 bullets.

Having previously encountered this creature, Nathan didn’t waste bullets like Laura; of course, pulling the trigger was a way to vent emotions and release stress.

The crew, who had been hiding in the cabin, also rushed up, discharging their automatic rifles at the tentacles, but such actions were clearly futile and only angered the thing beneath the waves.

The tentacles violently smashed onto the deck, two wrapped around the top of the bridge, crushing the glass of the cockpit, screams emanated from inside.

Not bothered about whether Conrad was still alive or not, Chen Ke, Nathan, and Laura had to face the sweeping assault of the other tentacles.

There weren’t many places to take cover on the deck, but they still managed to run to the stern, sheltering behind a davit amidst the tentacles’ unpredictable strikes.

The ship sank a few centimeters as the tentacles enveloped it, seeming intent on dragging it below. Chen Ke focused his mind, quickly pondering how to save the ship.

He wanted to use the Moonlight Sword to sever the tentacles, but clearly, the bottom of the ship was surely bound as well, merely cutting the tentacles atop would be useless.

And judging by the way the tentacles enveloped the ship, the main body of the squid was likely right beneath them... he thought of a method he absolutely didn’t want to take, yet had no choice but to consider.

That was to dive into the sea and confront it with the Soul Gun...

It was an extremely dangerous idea, because as a human, there was no way he could be as agile as a squid in the water, and given that the squid was transformed from a human, if it wrapped its tentacles around Chen Ke and dragged him deep, even with his life countdown, he was likely to end up dead in the sea...

However, if anyone on this ship could kill that squid, it was Chen Ke. If he didn’t act, they would all be doomed.

"Listen, I’m going to jump down and kill that squid," Chen Ke said to the two of them.

"You’re going to... jump down?" Laura looked at Chen Ke. Thunder was rumbling at this moment, and the surroundings were already a maelstrom of shocking waves. The storm had become even stronger than before.

"I thought about it when I was in Antarctica, but I didn’t think it was a good idea," Nathan shook his head.

"We’ve got no choice, man. Hesitate any longer, and we’re all going into the sea..." Chen Ke said.

"He’s right, only he can kill that squid on this ship..." Laura said.

"Here." Chen Ke spoke, pulling out his pistol, wallet, and mobile phone, and handed them to Laura.

"This is...?" Laura asked, perplexed.

"You should know, paper money and mobile phones aren’t waterproof, and the pistol is no use either. Hold them for me, I’ll get them back when I come up!" Chen Ke said.

In the sea, fighting that thing, the Holy Relics he carried were of no use; that was all of Chen Ke’s worldly possessions. If they sank to the bottom of the sea, he would be at a loss, and the mobile phone was even more important. Inside were the contact details for many people. Plus, there’s no such thing as replacing debit cards—if they were gone, they were truly gone...

He had thought about handing his belongings to Nathan, but for some reason, he always felt Nathan was more like a thief, so he gave them to Laura instead.

No need for more words. Chen Ke didn’t know if he could succeed, but right now, this was the only method. He stripped off his coat, took a running start, and jumped into the sea.

This wasn’t about playing the hero; this was about solving a problem... Chen Ke was determined to reach Norton City, and no one could stop him, not even a squid bigger than the ship itself!

The seawater was ice-cold and bone-chilling. As soon as he hit the water, Chen Ke felt swallowed by a giant wave, the violent current dragging him towards the dark Abyss.

He held his breath and forced his eyes open, but he could see nothing. The sea was terrifyingly dark, with visibility less than a handspan, and even with Spiritual Vision, there was not a living soul in sight, nor any discernible shape.

The ship was supposed to be right above him, but it had exceeded the range of his Spiritual Vision. This meant that the tumbling just now must have been carried off by the undercurrent to even deeper waters.

For the first time, Chen Ke felt a pang of panic.

He thrashed about in the water, trying to stabilize his posture and struggling to swim towards the surface, all the while trying desperately to locate the ship.

If he was unlucky, he might have been swept hundreds of meters away from the ship. Just then, he saw two red shining gemstones beneath his feet, with a thin line in the middle of them.

Those weren’t gemstones; they were the squid’s eyes.

Chen Ke could only see those eyes in the pitch-black sea. He couldn’t make out the actual size of the squid, but that didn’t stop him from preparing to condense a Spiritual Energy gun in his right hand. He just had to throw it towards the eyes, and that should do the trick.

Even underwater, the Spiritual Energy gun formed effortlessly, and he couldn’t feel it being moved by the currents. It seemed that as long as he didn’t throw it, the gun was merely a form of energy.

"Glub glub glub..." A stream of bubbles escaped from Chen Ke’s mouth. In reality, he wanted to say, "I’ll see that I don’t kill you!"

Before he knew it, Chen Ke suddenly felt his body enveloped by a thick, muscular arm. That immense force crushed his chest and ribs together, turning his flesh to mush.

In that instant, the tentacle pulled Chen Ke to the deeper seabed at a speed of 100 meters per second, filling his lungs with seawater, and blood gushed forth.
