This Spiritual Energy is Lethal! -
Chapter 313: I
Chapter 313: Chapter 313: I
In a mass of shadows, a figure leisurely passed through the corridor, slipping from one side where Chen Ke stood to the other.
Chen Ke aimed his gun at the entrance across the hallway and quickly walked over. Could that thing, which was invisible to Spiritual Vision, be the little boy in the kitchen?
This time, he acted swiftly as he didn’t want to let the other party slip away. Chen Ke’s plan was simple: catch up to the target, knock it down with a burst of Spiritual Energy, then burn it to death with An Helei’s ashes.
He pressed against the wall, sharply turned into the hallway, and aimed his gun at the shadow in front of him.
Under the red light, Chen Ke saw that it was a young man about his own height with black hair, wearing a checkered pajama, and barefoot, slowly walking ahead.
Suddenly, Chen Ke felt his muscles tighten, and his hand holding the gun slightly trembled. The pattern on the young man’s pajamas was eerily familiar, inducing an illusion.
"This can’t be..." Chen Ke muttered to himself.
The person in front of him was wearing his own pajamas! Precisely the ones he wore before he crossed over...
"Hey, turn around!" Chen Ke barked in a low voice.
Hearing Chen Ke’s voice, the person stopped, turned around slowly, and when Chen Ke saw his face, his legs went weak.
Even in the dim red light, Chen Ke couldn’t misrecognize that face. Wasn’t that himself before he crossed over?
"What the hell are you? How can you look exactly like me..." Chen Ke had never felt such fear and terror, his voice trembling.
"Me? I’m Chen Ke," the young man across smiled.
"Nonsense..." Chen Ke gripped the gun tightly but didn’t have the courage to pull the trigger. The person not only looked exactly like him but even sounded identical.
"You know very well who I am, you just refuse to admit it. You’ve always been pretending to be me, you are just Lin Mo with my memories," the young man laughed.
"You can’t fool me, I have Lin Mo’s soul in my hands... I am Chen Ke," Chen Ke retorted angrily, his vision blurring, as if the young man in front of him lacked form—either he didn’t exist, or he was some shapeless Demon Spirit.
"No, you are not; if you were, you wouldn’t still be in this world. Why don’t you think about finding a way to go back to your original world?" the young man asked with a smile.
"You have no idea what I’ve been through; I don’t have a heart... I can only live in the midst of killing intent, and in the original world, I have no choice but to become a murderer," Chen Ke said.
"No... that’s an excuse. You’re not me, so you don’t want to go back. You’re a born Assassin, Lin Mo, you enjoy killing. You like the feeling of pulling triggers, wielding knives, breaking bones... You revel in it, that’s just who you are," the young man said with a laugh.
"We have nothing to talk about, you’re just a monster, that’s all," Chen Ke coldly stated, his right hand releasing white ashes.
"I’m not trying to talk to you. You took everything from me, walk the world in my name, yet you can’t even find the real you," the young man said slowly.
The next second, Chen Ke charged at him, but just as he was about to make contact, the young man vanished into thin air.
He abruptly stopped, looking around, the other was nowhere in sight. The red-lighted bottom of the ship’s passage now seemed unfamiliar.
It’s hard for most people to understand the feeling of seeing oneself alive in front of their eyes, continuously denying one’s own identity. It’s enough to shatter anyone’s psyche.
However, Chen Ke steadfastly believed he was himself. His actions weren’t dictated by Lin Mo, but were the consequences of his own choices—had he not chosen to kill, he would not have survived till today.
Especially under the pressure of life’s countdown, Chen Ke’s choices were severely limited. Choosing the most efficient method to solve problems and achieve his goals had always been his way, and this had nothing to do with Lin Mo.
"Chen Ke?" someone called from behind.
Chen Ke turned around; it was Nathan.
Originally, he had been chasing Nathan down, but now he was found first by the other party, who put away his gun as if seeing a strange expression on Nathan’s face.
"What are you doing here?" Nathan asked.
"Some weird things have appeared on this ship, you really should listen to the announcement on board," Chen Ke said.
"Oh... sorry, we’d better go up and check it out," Nathan said, taking the lead and running toward the stairs.
Halfway there, he stopped, looked back at Chen Ke, and said, "By the way, Conrad probably doesn’t know I’m down here, does he?"
"I can’t guarantee that, he’s installed a bunch of surveillance cameras on the ship," Chen Ke replied, spreading his hands.
"Hmm... okay... I should have thought of that," Nathan said, slapping his forehead.
"What are you looking for down here?" Chen Ke asked.
"I’m looking for some strange things, I was chasing them down here," Nathan replied with a smile.
Chen Ke curled his lips, knowing Nathan was just finding an excuse. He believed Nathan’s actions had already been captured by Conrad’s cameras, so he said nothing more.
The two of them went up to the crew rest area. The entire ship was now in a state of preparedness, following Conrad’s instructions, with everyone gathered in the cabins rather than scattered throughout the ship.
Laura came out of her cabin, a gun holster on her back with two pistols.
"What are you guys going to do now?" she asked, catching up with Chen Ke.
"We’re going to find Conrad and see what else can be done," Chen Ke answered.
"Count me in, I can help too," Laura said.
Chen Ke didn’t refuse, although he wasn’t sure she was a Spiritual Ability User, he knew she was skilled at least.
"Just so you know, look after yourself. If something drags you into the water, no one here will save you," Nathan said at that moment.
"Look after yourself, Mr. Nathan, I’ve dealt with these things before," Laura retorted.
Ignoring their bickering, Chen Ke stepped onto the deck first. The sky had become overcast, with the signs of an impending downpour.
"How coincidental... running into this ghostly weather..." Chen Ke muttered in dismay. Encountering a storm at sea was indeed a troublesome matter.
Moreover, he faintly heard the sound of thunder rumbling.
"Boom... Boom..."
As Chen Ke stepped onto the deck, he felt the thunder sounded unusual. He listened carefully and sensed something eerie.
That wasn’t the sound of thunder, but rather similar to anti-aircraft guns. Anti-aircraft guns on the open sea... those were ground-to-air weapons, specifically used to combat bombers.
Chen Ke saw bursts of red light flickering within the dark clouds, and the muffled sounds of gunfire rose and fell. Nathan and Laura, following closely behind, heard them clearly as well.
"What is that?" Nathan asked.
"I have a bad feeling... Chen Ke," Laura said, pointing at the cloud emitting red light.
At that moment, a burning figure emerged from the cloud, plunging toward the sea. Chen Ke looked carefully and realized it was an airplane.
