Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Wrong Course

The next hour was a period of calm sailing.

When boarding, the crew were all smiles and chatter, but now, the entire ship had become drearily silent, with only the engines roaring.

The Administration Bureau wouldn’t just let this ship go, Chen Ke had this feeling. Smuggling Holy Relics was a serious crime, and Conrad’s actions were not unjustified—it was the price they had to pay: a lifetime of being wanted.

Still, the fact that they flipped a ship directly caught Chen Ke by surprise; at least, he hadn’t expected that Conrad would smuggle some goods while transporting people.

Chen Ke had a rough idea of where Conrad was hiding the Holy Relics, but since Spiritual Vision could only see through walls to distinguish humanoid creatures, he couldn’t be sure what exactly was hidden underneath.

Chen Ke suppressed his curiosity. It was better to involve himself less in their smuggling activities, especially since the Holy Relics on him were likely more precious than those goods.

The Black Box Space was essentially an uncontrolled portal opened in the present world by the Great Void; the Administration Bureau sealed this portal with a special building, confining the monsters that came through the portal to the present.

As long as the cycle wasn’t complete, the monsters that died in the Black Box Space would reincarnate with the Great Void. However, the items they dropped were of very low level.

Also, some Great Voids, like Fan Hede, had living humans appearing in the second cycle. Could it be possible that people from there unintentionally crossed over to the present world?

Even if they did, they surely would be taken in and controlled by the Administration Bureau... After all, scientists, in Chen Ke’s view, were a group of high-intelligence lunatics without emotions.

Especially given his current state, Chen Ke was very averse to hospitals, research institutes, PhDs, doctors, and the like, hoping Diana’s female doctor friend would be more reliable...

Absorbed in his chaotic thoughts, Chen Ke looked out the porthole and saw the coastline appearing at one end of the sea level, with two undulating mountain ranges and the coastal road faintly visible.

He checked his phone; it was 2:16 PM.

Suddenly, Chen Ke felt something was wrong. His cabin was on the right side of Endurance. When Endurance had sailed out of the Deep Anchor District of Opportunity City, the coastline had been on the left, with the sea connecting to the open waters on the right.

This meant that the ship had turned around.

Chen Ke jumped off the narrow bed, pushed open the door, and stepped into the hallway of the rest area. As soon as he left his room, he ran into Nathan and Laura, who were also looking for him.

"Did you notice?" Laura asked directly.

Chen Ke looked at Laura and then at Nathan, knowing they had also realized the ship’s course had changed.

"I think we should ask Conrad. There’s been enough happening today; I even have a sort of illusion that I might never reach the destination," said Nathan.

"Although it might not be the right time, I agree with you. But we might want to watch our words and try not to anger Conrad," Chen Ke said.

"I knew I shouldn’t have boarded this ship," Laura sighed.

"Complaining now won’t help; let’s hope Conrad can give us a reasonable explanation," Chen Ke said, crossing his arms and shaking his head.

The three of them discussed their approach briefly and then headed towards the stairs to the deck; Conrad should be in the bridge.

"Hey, you better not go up there," a black crew member blocked their path, his expression brooking no argument.

"We want to see the captain," said Nathan.

"He’s busy right now," replied the black crew member.

Meanwhile, some crew members suddenly appeared behind them, all holding guns as if threatening them.

"Alright... alright... when did our relationship get so bad, hmm?" Nathan stepped back slightly, smiling.

"What should we do?" Laura whispered, unsure whom she was asking.

"We need to see the captain, you’d better get out of the way," Chen Ke said calmly, a killing intent rising behind him like ripples slowly spreading across a lake surface.

This killing intent used to be a faint red, but now it had turned into a scarlet, as vivid as a tide of blood—possibly because the lifespan limit had increased, deepening the color of the killing intent.

Just then, he saw a blue outline descending from the deck—It was Conrad.

With just one glance, he knew the situation and waved his hand, signaling the surrounding crew to disperse.

"What’s going on, gentlemen?" Conrad asked.

Chen Ke instantly retracted his killing intent; the scarlet that had been emanating from his body was immediately absorbed back in.

He had thought about using his killing intent to intimidate Conrad, but considering the latter was Hainerd’s friend, he held back.

Of course, he would see what Conrad had to say—if it was something Chen Ke couldn’t accept, he wouldn’t mind using some special means.

"We’ve noticed the ship is heading in the opposite direction from our destination. We want to know why," Laura said bluntly.

"Yes, just as she said, we want to know why," Nathan added.

"You might remember, half an hour ago we blew up a boat, that was from the Administration Bureau. It looks like they don’t want to back off, they have sent another three ships to chase us," Conrad explained.

"This is all your fault, Conrad. What exactly are you hiding on your boat? Why did you kill those Sea Patrol team members?" Laura asked.

Nathan glanced at Laura, silently muttering, "This is bad, this is bad, this is bad."

"Watch your words, Miss Laura. We did what we had to do, and you’re not in a position to criticize us, otherwise, you wouldn’t be on this ship," Conrad threatened.

"Back to the current issue, gentlemen, what’s the situation now? Are we being chased by three Administration Bureau ships?" Chen Ke asked, only caring about this.

"Yes, and I assure you, those ships are nothing like the one we just blew up. Instead of armed with automatic rifles, this crew has Spiritual Ability Users," Conrad replied.

"Can your ship outrun them? From what I see, there are no Spiritual Ability Users on board." Chen Ke sighed.

Trouble came nonetheless; he had tried to keep a low profile during this journey, but now the problem had arisen because of Conrad.

"Speaking purely of absolute speed, the Endurance is just a fishing boat, it can’t outrun Administration Bureau ships, and our firepower isn’t sufficient either. I’m currently considering strategies; just stay in the rest area and don’t cause any more distractions," Conrad said.

"Had you thought this through before killing those Administration Bureau Sea Patrol members, we wouldn’t be in this mess now," Laura expressed her dissatisfaction.

"Listen, lady, if I hadn’t acted just then, we would all be sitting inside an Administration Bureau ship, waiting to dock and be transferred to prison," Conrad reasoned.

"That said, I’m also quite curious about what you’re hiding in your vessel," Nathan smiled and leaned against the cabin wall.

"You shouldn’t ask questions that you have no right to," Conrad responded coldly.

"Can you get rid of them and take us to our destination? That’s all I care about," Chen Ke crossed his arms and said.

"Hmm ... just caring about the essentials, I am beginning to like you, Chen Ke," Conrad looked at Chen Ke and smiled.

He then glanced at Nathan and Laura, saying, "You two, go back to your cabin and rest well. I’ll handle things. Then, Chen Ke, come with me to the bridge, I want to talk with you."

The three exchanged glances, Chen Ke shrugged and then followed Conrad up the stairs.
