Chapter 307: Chapter 307: Conrad’s Plan
Chen Ke followed Conrad up to the deck and as they walked towards the bridge, he noticed traces of washing on the deck, with faint bloodstains remaining in the corners by the ship’s rails.
Dozens of M16A4 rifles leaned against crates on one side, with two metal ammunition boxes stacked in the most conspicuous position on the deck. It was clear these were spoils seized from the Administration Bureau’s patrol boats.
He did not know where they had taken the equipment used to test the Holy Relics, but Chen Ke really wanted to take one for himself.
The life countdown could only be used to see the attributes of the Holy Relics. If he had the Administration Bureau’s equipment in hand, finding Holy Relics would become very convenient, much faster than just using his eyes.
The two entered the command room where Conrad closed the door, looking deeply troubled. He took a bottle of liquor from the cabinet, set up two glasses, and filled one for Chen Ke.
"We’ve run into serious trouble, buddy, the real kind," Conrad said.
Chen Ke took the glass he offered, somewhat uneasy with this change in his manner.
"I thought you could handle this matter," Chen Ke said.
"No... I think you should understand, Mr. Chen, the other party is the Administration Bureau’s maritime rapid response team. The people on my ship can’t fight against them," Conrad said and then gulped down his drink.
Chen Ke sipped his drink, tasted it, and realizing it was not strong, downed it in one go.
"Conrad, Hainerd told me you’re very capable. I hope he didn’t lie to me," Conrad said, looking at Chen Ke.
"I boarded your ship just to make my journey, not to help you deal with the Administration Bureau. You need to understand that; your trouble has nothing to do with me," Chen Ke said.
Conrad walked behind the table, put down the bottle, and looked up at Chen Ke.
"What if this trouble delays your journey?" asked Conrad.
Chen Ke looked at the ceiling, took a deep breath, then set his empty glass down on the table.
"What do you want me to do?" Chen Ke asked.
Conrad took a map out of the drawer and laid it on the table, gesturing for Chen Ke to come and look.
Chen Ke moved closer and saw a standard maritime chart, marked with all the shipping lanes and reefs within the United Federation, and many radio navigation stations printed along the edges.
"This is a maritime chart... Conrad, I’m not a navigator, I don’t understand this stuff," Chen Ke said.
"Of course, I’m not asking you to understand, but look at this area," Conrad circled a certain area.
"What is this?" Chen Ke looked where Conrad was pointing and saw a red circle marked with the words "Forbidden Navigation Area" in English.
"This is a forbidden zone, any problems with that?" Chen Ke asked.
"This zone is forbidden by the Administration Bureau, Mr. Chen," Conrad said.
"You mean... you want to take the ship in there?" Chen Ke had already grasped Conrad’s intention.
This fishing boat wasn’t fast, and being chased by three Administration Bureau ships, considering Conrad’s previous behavior, it would end up either being sunk or chased down and forced to stop.
According to Conrad, there were Spiritual Ability Users on those three ships; the 20 or so guns aboard were not enough to stand against them.
The only chance to shake off these ships was to enter this forbidden zone. Conrad bet they definitely wouldn’t follow.
"You are doing something very dangerous, Mr. Conrad. The Administration Bureau sealing off that zone probably isn’t without reason," Chen Ke shook his head.
"I’ve lived a life of danger, Mr. Chen, and looking into your eyes, I can tell you often do risky things too," Conrad said.
Chen Ke and Conrad locked eyes for a few seconds. He knew that Conrad’s analysis was not wrong. Unless they entered that sea area, the ship was a dead end.
Conrad had killed a shipload of agents, and the Administration Bureau would not negotiate with them.
"It’s all your fault, Conrad. You shouldn’t have stealthily brought those Holy Diamonds aboard. If I had known, I would have driven myself," Chen Ke sighed coldly.
"You were introduced by Hainerd. You knew what I did. You had already accepted the risks, and now you’re already on board," Conrad said with a smile.
Chen Ke pursed his lips, picked up a bottle of liquor nearby, poured himself a glass, and then downed it in one go.
He wiped his mouth and asked, "What’s inside there? Do you know?"
Conrad’s face showed a proud smile. "I don’t know; that’s what makes it interesting."
Chen Ke sighed, paced back and forth on the spot, feeling as if he had fallen into a strange cycle plagued by a curse of misfortune. All troubles and peculiar events seemed to be chasing after him, and danger would find him as soon as he let his guard down.
"What do you want me to do, Conrad? I’m telling you in advance, I won’t help you with any agents from the Administration Bureau," Chen Ke said.
"No, no need for that. Hainerd says you’re a Spiritual Cultivator, one from Fei Huang’s side, a person who can use Spiritual Energy. I need a simple favor from you. Once we are in that sea area, if we encounter some strange creatures, you help us take care of them," Conrad said with a smile.
"Damn it, Hainerd... Alright, but it depends on what level the creatures are at. This is at sea, and I’ve never fought at sea before," Chen Ke said.
"Hainerd said you are quite brave. I thought this wouldn’t be difficult for you," Conrad said.
"You don’t know anything about those creatures. We’re in this shitty situation all because of you," Chen Ke said angrily.
"Now is not the time to blame each other, Mr. Chen. If you want to go to Norton City, you’ll have to help me. It’s that simple," Conrad said with a smile.
Chen Ke had no choice but to agree, as he was literally in the same boat with Conrad and their small smuggling group. The Administration Bureau would not listen to his explanations.
"I have one condition," Chen Ke suddenly thought of something.
"Tell me," Conrad said.
"Give me a device to scan the Holy Relics," Chen Ke said.
"What?" Conrad feigned ignorance.
"Those agents had them in their hands, scanning your ship and making beeping sounds! Don’t fucking play dumb, Conrad!" Chen Ke said.
"Alright, alright... Although I don’t know what you want with that gadget, I won’t ask," Conrad said as he opened a drawer and took out a handheld device.
Chen Ke reached out for it, but Conrad did not hand it over. Instead, he pressed a button towards Chen Ke, and immediately, the device emitted a series of beeping sounds.
The sound was very faint, like a small iron piece continuously flicking against another small piece.
Chen Ke’s expression darkened.
"I knew you weren’t just anybody. Hainerd handing his daughter to you wasn’t without reason," Conrad laughed.
"You’re talking too much; it’s none of your business," Chen Ke pointed at Conrad.
"Once we pass through that sea area, I’ll give you the device. If we can’t make it, you won’t be alive to use it, right?" Conrad said with a laugh.
He was right, and Chen Ke had no retort.
"First, we’ll take a big detour to distance ourselves from the Bureau’s ships, then head into that sea. I hope when the unexpected happens, you’ll be ready," Conrad said.
Chen Ke gave Conrad a glance, frowned, and pushed the door open to leave.
