Chapter 270: Civil War

Chapter 270: Chapter 270: Civil War

Chen Ke stepped out of the arched gate of the inner city wall. Though he was clad in the silver knight armor, his hands were empty, with no weapon in sight.

The people around him were all busy with their own business, and some soldiers from the Fan Hede Kingdom passed by him, giving him some kind of military salute.

The status of a silver knight in Fan Hede went without saying, but the set of armor Chen Ke wore was clearly different from the others’, far too ancient and not as shiny. Furthermore, his equipment was incomplete, and there was no telling if he would be stopped and questioned.

But at least the design of the helmet concealed the face, so no one knew who wore the armor.

Chen Ke had previously overheard a few silver knights talking. Faralis had most likely gone to the cathedral alone, and without anyone having to tell him, Chen Ke knew what she intended to do.

She wanted to kill the Pope because the Pope had imprisoned her mother.

If Chen Ke’s guess was right, it would prove that the era that Fan Hede was now in was after the outbreak of the Black Ring disease.

Mazville came to Fan Hede, established the Black Ring Sect, and defamed the queen of Fan Hede as a heretic. To save her mother, Faralis had gone to behead Mazville.

But things were definitely not that simple; otherwise, Faralis wouldn’t have ended up decapitated.

Even after being beheaded, Mazville hadn’t died, and later he captured Faralis alive, imprisoned her body in the secret chamber of a cliff, and placed her severed head in the mysterious prayer room.

Whether this was done out of pure vengeance or with some other intent was unknown.

In this time space, Chen Ke also learned something else: the sword of Faralis was taken by the Black Ring Sect. How did they manage it?

The details didn’t matter. What mattered was that Faralis had regained possession of that sword from Chen Ke, which meant, in this time space, there were now two of Faralis’s Swords of Unyielding Fury.

One was in her hands, the other was with the Black Ring Sect.

Chen Ke didn’t hold out much hope for retrieving the sword, but subconsciously, he realized he had been drawn into a critical node of the cycle.

It was with that great sword that Faralis had sliced off Mazville’s head, yet when Chen Ke encountered her, she only had a rapier with her.

Chen Ke didn’t think Faralis knew where to find her own sword. It was more likely that without that great sword, she would actually confront the Pope with just the rapier.

If Chen Ke’s guess was accurate, the key to breaking the cycle of this time space lay in whether she had that great sword or not...

This implied that the participants must have already passed through the previous time space fragment and obtained the key item first; otherwise, there was no chance.

Of course, it was also possible to search for Faralis’s Sword of Unyielding Fury in the cathedral and then hand it to Faralis.

But Faralis wasn’t going to wait for you. Maybe before you find the great sword, she’d already be killed by the Pope.

Would her death lead to the failure of the cycle?

Chen Ke didn’t know, nor was he clear if the endpoint of this cycle was to help Faralis decapitate the Pope.

If based on the description on the sword, it was a battle bound to be lost no matter what, for Mazville was not an ordinary human being.

Moreover, her soul was swapped for her sword by Chen Ke in the last cycle. What could they swap for this time if they could still obtain her soul?

Without a word, he followed the road paved with white stone bricks out towards the citadel. Behind him, the civilians who had been helping to carry supplies and provisions also gradually left, carrying boxes and barrels towards the city walls.

It seemed nobody noticed that one person was missing; in this environment, they did not have the luxury to count heads. Chen Ke left the castle unimpeded and returned to the town.

Given his current state of being empty-handed, Chen Ke hesitated whether or not to summon the Kingdom’s great shield and the Sun Sect’s warhammer. As for the purple lance... he wouldn’t bother with it—Chen Ke didn’t use lances.

But even with the shield and hammer, he didn’t want to summon them because in the Great Void, Holy Relics couldn’t be restored into Holy Diamonds. That shield was quite heavy, and it would be a disadvantage of sorts to carry it while running.

So he only summoned the Sun Sect’s warhammer, wielding it with both hands ready to deal with anyone who dared to cause trouble—a hammer for each troublesome child.

Chen Ke had put on the armor bare-chested. He tied the gun holster directly to his body. Although the Black Knight armor was self-donned, it followed the principles of Holy Relics, automatically treating the holster as part of Chen Ke’s clothing, replacing it.

He reached with his right hand to his left armpit—the gun was still there. Looking down, he saw that whenever he wanted to draw the gun, the holster would reveal half of itself, making the gun accessible, which was extremely convenient.

"Hey, which unit are you from?"

Just as he stepped out of the city gate, three silver knights came down the street on the left, calling out loudly.

Chen Ke turned his head and saw that all three silver knights were covered in blood, it seemed they had killed quite a few people.

He stayed silent, holding the maul and stood there dumbfounded, his mind racing to concoct a lie to deceive them.

"That hammer... where did you get it from?" one of the silver knights asked, pointing at the maul in Chen Ke’s hand.

Chen Ke’s brow furrowed, and he inwardly cursed, sensing trouble.

The Sun Maul was the standard equipment of the National Sun Sect of the Fan Hede Kingdom in the past; now this country followed the Black Ring Sect, and having the former national sect’s hammer in his possession was lethal in a Medieval society.

"I... picked it up from a corpse," Chen Ke blurted out hastily.

"What about your weapons and equipment? Have you lost them? Now that’s really unfortunate," another silver knight said teasingly, lightening the atmosphere.

Chen Ke quickly nodded his head, and since the other side offered a way out, he decided to take it.

The other two silver knights also relaxed, and one of them took his shield off his arm and handed it to Chen Ke.

"We need to go back for repairs, you can use my equipment for now; I’ll take this hammer into the guard city," he said.

Taken aback, Chen Ke pondered for a moment before handing over the Sun Maul and accepting the shield and longsword the silver knight passed to him.

"The Holy Relics grant..."

A line of orange text floated at the corner of his eye, and just like that, the two Holy Relics became his.

Chen Ke fixed his gaze and saw that both of the Holy Relics were just of white quality.

"What are you daydreaming about! Get going and carry out your mission," a silver knight patted Chen Ke on the shoulder.

Chen Ke strapped the shield to his left arm, sword in his right hand, and nodded at the knight.

"Just you alone? It’s better to team up with others. Those traitors are serious this time..." another knight said.

"The Sun Order... once our fellow brethren too, but if you encounter them on the battlefield, show no mercy," the knight who had given Chen Ke the equipment said.

Chen Ke nodded, bidding them farewell.

Now he was fully aware, this war was a civil war between the old and new religious orders of the Fan Hede Kingdom!
