Chapter 705: Chapter 602 Everything for the Bone God_2
The spiral structure transformed the erupting power of mercury into rotational force. The Mercury Avatar’s body had no balancing organs, so it didn’t experience dizziness, thus it took very little effort to swim upstream.
Amberser couldn’t help but remark, "This physics is even better than mine."
This was the child raised by the God of Alchemy; the race of Mercury Avatars had been imbued with untold knowledge.
Knowledge was not restricted by Aeo’s rules, yet it could exert astonishing power.
Bartle swam against the current and quickly passed through the spatial channel, arriving in an even deeper Mercury Pool.
After passing through the gap, the flow of mercury slowed considerably, allowing him to swim around like a fish. Not knowing the actual depth of the Mercury Pool, Bartle could only create a small vacuum inside his body to increase buoyancy and rush upwards.
However, just as he ascended a few meters, Bartle emitted a series of vibrations.
Bartle warned his companions, "Something’s approaching, everyone be careful."
Just as he finished speaking, a huge shadow appeared in the Mercury Pool. It opened its mouth and swallowed Bartle.
Within the Mercury Pool, the Mercury Avatars couldn’t use their vision, but they could sense their surroundings through vibrations. Bartle could sense that what had swallowed him was a bizarre large fish—a fish with many limbs.
But he wasn’t panicked, for he discovered that after being swallowed, the fish tried to digest him with acid containing magic power.
This acid, capable of digesting metal armor, splashed on Bartle but only left slight marks.
Before entering this place, Bartle had greatly increased his Magic Resistance by devouring vast amounts of mercury. During this effect’s duration, he was nearly immune to magic. Without the enhancement of magic power, the pure acid no longer harmed Bartle.
Bartle also found that the fish’s insides contained a great amount of mercury. Its flesh and bones were full of various metals. Although he didn’t know the species of this strange fish, as long as it contained metals, it was on the Mercury Avatar’s menu.
In the next second, the huge creature began to convulse painfully and desperately swam upwards.
Holes appeared in the fish’s body, pierced by spikes—wounds left from the penetrating mercury. Originally, the mercury couldn’t harm the strange fish, but the mercury inside the fish grew sharp teeth that continually tore through the flesh, savoring the rich metal content.
The pain drove the strange fish to struggle wildly. It had devoured countless demons in this Mercury Pool, yet it never expected to swallow something more terrifying than itself.
By the time the strange fish surfaced, all that was left was a perforated corpse.
From the wounds of the carcass, two silver-white tentacles emerged like sensors, adjusting briefly before Bartle climbed out of the strange fish’s body.
The other Mercury Avatars followed closely, surfacing one after another, vigilantly scanning the surroundings.
This part of the Mercury Pool was deep and vast, resembling a river of flowing mercury that meandered into the distance. The opening below paled in comparison to this huge Mercury River and probably wouldn’t cause the water level to drop.
Looking towards the nearest riverbank, there was a smoky, desolate land, and farther away, many fragmented lands floated midair.
These lands were connected by numerous Space Gates, through which large numbers of demons constantly passed in and out.
Unknown of their origin or destination, even during migration, these demons would howl wildly and often fight among themselves.
The poison fog was the stench emitted by the corpses of demons, causing the space to be overcast and toxic, filled with danger.
Bartle discreetly opened his body, revealing the intact Magic Mirror inside, and reported to Amberser, "Great Deity, we have reached the other side of the plain."
Amberser’s face appeared on the tiny Magic Mirror, equally stunned by the scene before him.
"This is hardly better than the Blood River Battlefield, it’s just another labyrinth."
"These demons coming and going, It’s impossible to clearly see which one is the real entrance to The Abyss. Without locating this position, naturally, it’s impossible to determine the whereabouts of the Nether River tributary."
Amberser said helplessly, "Let’s keep moving. If possible, catch a demon alive so I can read its soul."
This was the simplest method. Amberser could meticulously unravel the soul, searching for the memory he needed.
However, Amberser had never dissected a demon’s soul and was quite eager to try.
Bartle obeyed the order, carefully storing the Magic Mirror again, but he was not in a hurry to act. As the leader of the Mercury Avatars, Bartle had risen to leadership by being calm and smart—traits ingrained by the teachings of the God of Alchemy.
The race of Mercury Avatars respected the wise over the warriors.
"This Mercury River is far from those shattered spaces, our bodies are too conspicuous. If we just climb onto the shore and advance, we’ll certainly be spotted beforehand. Any suggestions?"
One of the Mercury Avatars excitedly said, "Bartle, we can change color, blend into the color of this land! Or we can use the Invisibility Technique, I know that spell."
But Bartle countered, "Camouflage and invisibility techniques last too short a time, not long enough for us to approach the nearest demon."
The Mercury Avatars had strong transformation abilities, but changing body shapes was completely different from changing colors; the former only required physical exertion while the latter involved magic. This generation of Mercury Avatars could cast spells, but their Spell Casting Ability was not very strong, and no exceptionally talented individuals had yet emerged.
Another Mercury Avatar soon suggested, "Since we can’t hide, we might as well do the opposite—lure the demons over."
Bartle thought for a moment and nodded in agreement.
"Well said. That might be the best approach. There must be many other creatures at the river bottom. Those strange fish can’t possibly rely only on outsiders to fill their bellies. Let’s catch those creatures and bring them to the shore. Demons aren’t very smart. Even if these creatures aren’t edible, the demons will probably be tempted to come check them out, and then we can catch one of them!"
Bartle’s command was quickly executed, and the Mercury Avatars dove into the Mercury River, soon hauling up a large collection of weirdly shaped creatures.
Among them was a bizarre fish with many limbs, but the Mercury River also housed giant spider crabs and various monsters, forming a complete food chain.
These creatures, terrifying entities on the Prime Material Plane, were able to withstand the pressure of the mercury, which spoke to the toughness of their flesh and shells. The average warrior would likely be unable to breach their defenses.
Unfortunately, these creatures encountered the Mercury Avatars, beings naturally adept at countering metal life forms, and were effortlessly gutted one by one.
The massive corpses were brought to the shore, forming a small hill.
Most of these creatures had silver bodies, which, even under the dark sky, still shone brilliantly.
Suddenly, the peaceful Mercury River bank was transformed by the appearance of this shiny little hill, instantly attracting the attention of some demons.
A swarm of black shadows flew from afar, heading towards the Mercury River.
Bartle knew their plan had succeeded, but as he discerned the number of demons, he instantly felt troubled.
There were too many of them, this vast black mass undoubtedly counted in the hundreds.
With only a dozen or so Mercury Avatars against them, how could they possibly handle trouble? They’d be overwhelmed by these demons the moment they showed themselves.
Just as Bartle was helplessly preparing to switch strategies, Amberser’s voice came from the Magic Mirror: "Don’t worry, I’ll handle it."
