Chapter 704: Chapter 602: Everything for the Bone God
The crimson Gates of Hell opened within the realm of the God of Alchemy, and the laws of the two planes began to make contact, erupting into violent red lightning in midair.
Watching this madness unfold, Amberser couldn’t help but say, "As expected, Zariel has tampered with it, isn’t this going to blow all the Mercury Avatars to smithereens?"
But the God of Alchemy shook His head and said, "You’re overthinking it. It’s simply that the laws of the Divine Realm and Hell are too different. The rules I’ve written are not compatible with those of Hell; this is a normal phenomenon. If you were to open this door on the Prime Material Plane, you wouldn’t get this effect."
"I did it as a precaution... But this really makes no sense!"
Amberser, stroking his chin, couldn’t figure it out. The reason for opening it in the realm of the God of Alchemy was precisely the fear that Zariel had some plot, and in the Divine Realm it could still hold.
Now, however, he found that Zariel had not interfered at all, so why had he suddenly become so agreeable?
The God of Alchemy too sensed something puzzling, but He did not have the same level of suspicion as Amberser did; He just did what needed to be done.
"Go, my children, you are the creations of alchemy, let those devils and demons see what you can do."
The twisting lightning began to subside, and the God of Alchemy beckoned a group of silver-white creatures into the Gates of Hell.
These small silver-white creatures, each only the size of a washbasin, constantly changed shapes as they moved.
When they encountered flat ground, they would grow structures similar to snake scales and multiple insect legs to crawl quickly and smoothly. When they encountered steps, their bodies would naturally transform into an arched shape to propel themselves upward.
The transformations looked fluid, almost instinctual.
This was the effect of inherited memory, a locomotion method that the ancestors of the Mercury Avatars had taken a lot of time to develop, both efficient and energy-saving.
Thousands of Mercury Avatars entered the Gates of Hell, quickly arriving in Melina’s battle zone.
This area had already been filled with mercury to a great extent, forming a huge Mercury Pool with a diameter of over one kilometer.
With a splash, Mercury Avatars plunged in, one after another, then emitted cheerful sounds.
The Mercury Avatars survived by consuming metal, and their favorite was mercury, the metal that was easiest to absorb and best suited to their body composition.
The Mercury Avatars transformed into silver-white fish and swam joyfully in the Mercury Pool. The taste of this mercury was novel, as if mixed with something else, and it was exhilarating.
However, not every Mercury Avatar was so lively. One of the larger Avatars took on a half-human, half-fish form and bowed towards the Magic Mirror in the air.
"Great Bone God, your faithful son Bartle greets thee, please bestow your divine command."
Amberser looked at the Mercury Avatar and asked in confusion, "Bone God? Who taught you this address?"
Bartle respectfully replied, "It’s inherited from the memories of the Soul, intrinsic to our bodies, no matter how we split, you remain our greatest creator."
The title of creator, was not precisely accurate.
The bodies of the Mercury Avatars were made by the Alchemist Association, and Amberser had only improved the method of their creation, finding a cheaper way to create suitable Souls, making him only a half-creator, so to speak.
Moreover, the first batch of Mercury Avatars, due to cost savings, weren’t particularly intelligent, but unexpectedly, later generations developed into truly intelligent Mercury Avatars.
Nevertheless, Amberser happily accepted Bartle’s reverence and hurriedly gave his orders, "Your mission is simple, pass through this column of mercury and head to another space to investigate the situation on the other side. Ensure your safety as much as possible and try to gather as much intelligence as you can."
After hearing this, Bartle humbly responded, "We will surely complete your command, but, if you permit me to boldly inquire, is the great Bone God seeking a certain lifeform or perhaps an artifact in the other space? If we have a more precise target, we will fulfill your command even faster."
Amberser couldn’t help but appreciate the initiative; this little one truly saved him worry, proving to be more reliable than Big Black and Husky, who, despite being full of cunning thoughts, weren’t meticulous in their actions, relying only on their smart tricks.
"It’s not about finding a person or thing; I want you to gauge the overall situation on the other side of the space channel, just establish where the demons are coming from. Take the Magic Mirror with you, and if possible, I will guide you along the way."
Amberser explained the mission to Bartle in detail, emphasizing the main objective of locating the Nether River, with priority on safety.
There are entry requirements for the space channel; powerful demons have difficulty coming through this channel, but the situation on the other side is different. Bartle might actually meet an avatar of a Demon Lord right after entering, and then get squashed with a single stomp.
Amberser was sending out scouts, not cannon fodder. Ideally, these little ones would return with the intelligence, none missing.
Having understood the heavy responsibility and the dangers of the path ahead, Bartle bowed to Amberser and then transformed into a fish, sinking deep into the Mercury Pool. The pool then began to roil.
Soon, Amberser saw the Mercury Pool noticeably decline in level, and then Bartle surfaced with a dozen other Mercury Avatars, rushing towards the column of mercury.
The flow of the mercury slowed down significantly, but the force of the space channel was still immense. Bartle and the Mercury Avatars turned into spiral structures, and upon entering the column of mercury, they shot upstream with a whoosh.
