Chapter 689: Chapter 595 Homebodies are not to be messed with_3

"Who might that be?" Amberser asked, perplexed.

Was there someone more eager than the Lord of Hell himself?

"Have you not heard of Disparte?"

Amberser blurted out in response, "The master of the Second Layer of Hell, that I know, but all I know about this Steel Duke is that he usually dislikes going out, even showing his face."

"Right, but do you know that the Archdukes of the Devils in the Nine Layers of Hell often change due to death or betrayal, and since the emergence of hell, only Asmodeus and Disparte, these two most ancient devils, have been around since the birth of hell and have never been replaced."

Amberser shook his head, "That I did not know."

To think that this Steel Duke held such a venerable identity, an ancient devil that existed since the very establishment of hell and had remained the master of the Second Layer through countless upheavals, just as ancient as Asmodeus.

Indeed, the homebodies in stories are all not to be trifled with.

"Zariel is just cannon fodder. You should be well aware that he’s an angel who fell from Heaven Mountain into hell, a sinner thrown into the first layer to suffer. The Blood War Battlefield is Zariel’s execution ground. So, who is the real guardian of the Blood River? That Bayer who is even lesser than Zariel?"

At that moment, Amberser understood the Poet’s implication.

The Blood River Fortress is not just any stronghold; it’s an outpost. The Blood River is merely the front line where battles are joined. The entire first layer of hell is the "strategic depth" of the Blood War Battlefield. The real defense line is the Second Layer of Hell, held by the Steel Duke.

In a critical moment, the first layer of hell could even be sacrificed, turned into a quagmire to stop the demons’ invasion. The Second Layer, guarded by the Steel Duke, would become key to repelling the demons.

Goodness, if I were to act against the Blood War Battlefield, the first to come out to hinder me wouldn’t be Zariel, but this Steel Duke who has always been hidden in the shadows.

"If it hadn’t been for your reminder, senior, I would have indeed mistaken my enemy." Amberser was truly grateful. Devils indeed proved to be devils, with even the most unremarkable Archduke keeping a card up his sleeve. He had almost stumbled blindly into a trap.

Such secrets of hell were not easily understood by any ordinary person; only someone as ancient as the Poet could see clearly.

"Thank you, your reminder is extremely important to me," Amberser said.

The Poet chuckled and, clinking glasses with Amberser again, said, "Then, for my sake, give Old Man Yeg some respect. I’ve always felt that out of all the members in the society, you’re the most interesting, don’t make future meetings awkward for everyone."

Amberser said helplessly, "Why does everyone think I’m here to cause trouble?"

"Whether you’re here to cause trouble or not, you’ll have to decide that for yourself," the Poet patted Amberser’s shoulder and then returned to his role as a bartender.

And shortly after the Poet left, a skeleton clad in a tattered robe entered the tavern and approached Amberser.

The long-unseen Guild Leader of the Elegy Poetry Society—Recorder of Life, Yeg, sat calmly before Amberser and asked in a grave tone, "I heard you wanted to see me?"

Amberser nodded and then got straight to the point, "Guild Leader, am I still a member of the Elegy Poetry Society?"

Yeg examined Amberser and then gave a surprising answer.

"Of course you are, the Elegy Poetry Society only has members who have passed on, we’ve never had any who quit."

Amberser asked with confusion, "Then why has my Necromancy Codex disappeared?"

"A small oversight. The Necromancy Codex was originally bound to your dark magic power. But now you’re no longer undead, and your magic nature has changed. Naturally, the Necromancy Codex vanished, especially since you were the first from the society to descend into hell."

Amberser chuckled ruefully; it all came down to overthinking on his part.

However, those were not the main points. Amberser paused, then asked, "Then, Guild Leader, am I still eligible to compete in the election for Grim Reaper?"
